  1. I hope we come back and laugh at this thread in a few years when we don't trade Soler and he becomes the Donging leviathan he was meant to be for this team.
  2. I really don't have a lot of interest in him, he's a little too old and will cost a lot for mostly past performance. I'd rather just bring Fowler back or go after Heyward if we are giving out a 9 figure deal to a position player. I think we are going to be linked to a lot of players this offseason with no basis from writers. Bringing in Gordon tho would mean Soler is likely gone and we still wouldn't have a CF.
  3. Mike Maddux out as Rangers pitching coach
  4. Don't they have a team option? Player option for $12.5 million, so yeah that's getting declined/not exercised
  5. He has a mighty sample of 6 postseason appearances, in 4 of them he hasn't allowed a run (3 with no hits), then he had 1 outing were he allowed 1 run and 1 where he did blow up and gave up 4. The outing with the 4 runs came in the 4th appearance in the same series and 3rd appearance in 3 days. I'd gladly take him if he were available for the right price and he was amendable to not being a closer full-time. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.cgi?id=storedr01&t=p&year=0&post=1
  6. Pick 2 for WR 1/2 standard league with no PPR Alshon vs MIN Jarvis Landry @ NE Martavis Bryant vs. CIN
  7. I'd say no as the Cubs. Knowing they want rotation help and presumably aren't as high on Gausman as others what about Wood, McKinney and Jeimer for Gausman? Get a rotation piece back, a good OF prospect and potential 1B down the road? A potential ace for a guy who may not even be offered a contract, a decent prospect, but nowhere near top 100 in Jeimer and a good prospect without a ton of ceiling in McKinney. There's no way. I don't think the Orioles view him as a potential ace given how they've handled him. But yeah that trade is probably a little light.

  9. What would the cost even be to acquire him? I still think he could be really good like him, but I could see the price be all over the place for him and probably prefer Gausman to him of Orioles guys given Gausmen is a definite contributor next year and fits our window better.
  10. Odorizzi on a Gio Gonzalez-esque deal is an interesting idea if the Rays are up for it. I think Torres's best utility will be as trade bait too. Not sure if Odorizzi is the guy I'd want to use him on, but definitely worth exploring. Yeah, I think there's some Arrieta potential to him. He throws a cutter already and obviously Bosio has shown what he can do with that between Wood and Arrieta. Odorizzi just spent this year at 25, in Arrieta's age 25 season (2011) their stuff compares to be relatively similar from a velocity stand point. Odorizzi average velocity was 91.3, 85.4, 71.3, 85 on his FB/CT/Curveball (only threw 3% of time)/Change Arrieta at age 25 was 92.4, 86, 77.5, 85.6 on FB/Slider/Curve/Changeup. *I will note that I know it's incredibly unlikely to pull another Arrieta scenario out, nor do I expect it with Odorizzi. But I think he's already pretty good and has upside plus is young/controlled and at least seems to have the type of stuff that our coaches have had success taking up another notch (and in Arrieta's case a million notches).
  11. I'd like to get Odorizzi or Gausman and I think we could get one of them for some combo of Torres, Zagunis, Almora, McKinney, Contreras, Jeimer, etc.
  12. Holy crap, Murray's estimated net worth is $140 million. I wouldn't have guessed close to that high (I would've guessed maybe $20-30), also didn't know he owned multiple minor league teams. I don't remember hearing anything about Ricketts looking for celebrities and/or having any lined up to buy part of the team, I vaguely remember hearing in the last year or so they were open to (idk if outright looking for) selling a small percentage of the team. But that may have been more tied to a potential way to fund renovations.
  13. There's another [expletive] London game??? How many are there this year?
  14. I've always been interested in this too, trying to find out if there was a way to identify low variance vs high variance players, but I think it would be incredibly hard to do. It's almost something you'd have to wait to identify after years a player was in the league or even retired as you'd need multiple seasons of data.
  15. Theo also said, according to twitter, "FA pitching is sometimes a necessary evil."
  16. What would be the level of player, I assume you want a pitcher, you'd need to get for him?? Would it need to be like Kluber or Gray?
  17. From Law's chat today, he's been at/still is at the AFL. FWIW
  18. I wonder if Martinez will be considered a candidate for the Dodger job given the past with Friedman
  19. Yeah the only way I could possibly see Ross retiring this offseason would be if Martinez got a head coaching job and he was offered the bench coach job.
  20. That's my preferred plan with him, have him catch 30-40 games and the rest in the OF.
  21. I would agree, NLCS aside, he looked okay out there most of the year for a guy essentially learning on the job and seemed to look decent enough that with practice he won't be a complete liability out there in the future.
  22. Starting the season with the DH, excellent
  23. Man, ended too soon but let's not forget how great this season was and how much we have to build on. Hope all the guys make use of the offseason and come back better next year
