  1. I actually liked their depth in a regular 162 game year with what they had going in (pre-injuries) Yu, Hendricks, Lester, Q, Chatwood, Mills being the top 6. In a regular year where guys could’ve developed and had minor leagues Abbott, Marquez and one of the Thompson’s (forget which one is considered the good one) could’ve been August/September SP options. Hell even Adbert or Miller could’ve been better than they’ve shown as SP. though I think Adbert is just a reliever moving forward.
  2. Cardinals lose
  3. Martinez is controlled for 2-3 more years, if the DH is here to stay he does have some value of what he is this year isn’t the new norm. He just turned 32 and last year he only managed a 101 wRC+, hard to be very confident of much future value since he is poison with a glove in his hand. If we are gonna throw out this weird year as not being the norm moving forward for him, his ~150 wRC+ vs lefties and ~110 vs RHP career still plays with the DH around. Sure not super valuable, but it certainly helps. Especially over 162 games next year if you assume he’s going to be closer to his career norms.
  4. not falling for this horsefeathers again Not falling for basic math and probability of being in a good spot?
  5. The Cubs have somehow managed to fill the roster with two worse offensive players than Albert Almora over the last week in Hamilton (who yeah has value in defense+SBs) and Vargas. That’s impressive.
  6. Sending Rea out seems incredibly dumb. He has a FIP/xFIP in the 3s as a RP this year, granted SSS. But he had a use in that role. He’s not really a starter with his profile but he still could go 2-3 innings if needed to soak innings. I don’t get it. Send down/cut that Vargas bum.

  8. Hopefully whatever went wrong for Sonny in his last start lingers in to this one. He was wild and gave up a lot of hits and his velo was down. Win, idiots.
  9. I know it’s Bauer but my god these ABs aren’t even competitive
  10. Of course, during that 17 game stretch the Cardinals are playing 25 games. The primary concern is that 10 of those 25 are against the Brewers, and someone has to win those games, so the Cubs just have to win some series here. Win this and the next series against the Brewers and the rest of the season should work itself out fine. Yeah don’t horsefeathers yourself here and while you have 10 guaranteed wins for those 2 you also have 10 guaranteed losses. Would be hard for both the Brewers and Cardinals to jump us if we just play .500ish the rest of the way. We have 17 left, 7-10 gets us to 32 wins and probably wins the division. More than 7 and it has to essentially be 100% to win it if we get to 33+.
  11. The Yankees have lost 15 of 20
  12. Hamilton is a career 66 wRC+ player. He shouldn’t ever be starting outside of the hangover game after clinching. He’s here to pinch run and play late inning defense. Starting him should not ever be on the table in games they’re trying to win.
  13. 2 out of 5 was the worst possible, acceptable, outcome. Good job idiots
  14. Other than 2018 when did this happen? 2017 they held on, last year they just sucked and this year they’re at least still in first and can go back up 2.5.
  15. did the cubs have a bunch of doubleheaders in that stretch? i always thought people overstated what the cubs had to go through at the end of that season. they played a bunch of days in a row, big whoop I think they had at least 2 DHs (I remember one vs the Nats and Cardinals). It was a pretty unprecedented stretch (wasn’t it like 42 games in 40 days?). They did really well, the Brewers just played .800 or whatever and we only played like .600 which gets the job done most of the time and if the Brewers win 1 less game I think we’d think of the Cubs pulling that stretch off to win 95 and the division much differently and a big accomplishment. It also came on the heels of the end of the season where they had already played ~120 games then had to go on the death march.
  16. They’re going to make to the playoffs so we’re gonna be stuck paying attention for at least ~4 more weeks. i honestly don't care at all about the playoffs. first of all, we all know they aren't going to win. and even if they do, they'll have done it while going 31-29 or some horsefeathers, and it will never mean anything. the only thing they could have done this year that would have actually meant something to me would have been to buck all the stupid trends and play good baseball for 60 games. i didn't have any real hope for this until the stupid 13-3 start tricked me into thinking things were different. The rest of the NL sucks/is average, get lucky and hope someone bounces the Dodgers early and we have a shot. They very likely lose round 1 or 2 but whatever. This is a weird season, but they still will be playing playoff baseball and that’s exciting enough for me whatever the format and regular season record.
