  1. Grimm is about the same as, if not even a little better than, Wilson and also a year younger. Pass. Grimm was actually better vs LHB than Wilson was this past year.
  2. I was in Vegas last weekend and got to watch, and bet on, UCLA a few times. They are really good and seem to have a bit of everything, I was able to still bet them at 25/1 to win it all before I left. Which I think is/was really great value. Considering most of the teams you'd think to bet on to win it all (Duke, UNC, Kentucky, etc) were under 10/1 and a lot were inside 5/1.
  3. This would be my 4
  4. Twitter makes it sound like Hill back to the Dodgers is done or as good as done
  5. Kinda weirdly worded but you could take it to mean he's in negotiations with us....
  6. Yeah count me in on Jansen or Chapman for 5/80-90. Melancon seems like a very Giants closer/FA acquisition
  7. Misses the cut...blames it on an injury...doesn't play for a few more months. I don't think there's a cut, there's only like 20 guys in the tournament. Overall he looked pretty good today, got into some horsefeathers but considering it's his first round back hopefully there's some things starting to click for him. A moderately competitive, and healthy, Tiger is good for golf. I just hope he can play a full schedule this year, win 1-3 tournaments, have a few top 10 finishes in others and challenge for 1 of the Majors (I think it's too much to expect him to win one but maybe lead going into a Saturday and finishing top 12 would be fun).
  8. They better do a better job scheduling early in the year with maximizing games in domed or southern/western stadiums. Even if it means teams like us and the Twins not getting the first home game for ~2 weeks.
  9. I don't think it would in practice. The only way Otani agrees to it is if the contract basically grants him FA after a year(which may not even be possible). Otherwise a team could say 'welp, tough luck' once he signs and they have him on normal pre-arb prices. From a team's perspective, you need to be sure that you can ink that extension, lest you pay $25 million to smuggle Otani and then lose him. If they grant that immediate FA then that's a ton of risk/leverage placed in Otani's hands. Plus you have to probably collude with Otani/his team ahead of time so he actually knows that's what's going to happen and they proceed to post him. That's precisely what I'm saying
  10. Soooo, would a work around be to give him the max 5-6 mil then immediately sign him to an extension for like $200 mil?
  11. I would imagine, like last time, the IFA cap doesn't affect Japanese players who already are under contract by teams over there.
  12. Hmmm [tweet] [/tweet]
  13. $5 mil hard cap on IFA's, holy horsefeathers that's horsefeathering stupid
  14. Tiger officially back tomorrow in the Hero Wold Championship and the field is pretty loaded, Spieth, Reed, Bubba, Rose, Stenson, DJ and many others are in it. Will be interesting to see how he does.
  15. Someone refresh my memory on the bidding process again.... It's not a blind bid anymore, right? As long as you have the highest payment offer to the team (up to $25 million I think) you get to present/negotiate a term with the player and multiple teams can have the highest "buyout" number to team, right?
  16. I mean, I get it. Trading the face of the franchise isnt fun. But 2017 Cutch isnt close to 2015 Cutch anymore, and their OF will be just fine with Meadows, Marte, Polanco. My Pirate fan friends understand that and are ready to move on. How patient do we think the Yankees will be with all of the prospects they've landed over last year? I'd be OK with Cutch out of the NL Central but it would kind of suck seeing Torres in it facing us for 7 years or so.. I'd prefer to see the Yankees blow their wad on McCutchen than say Trout if/when he becomes available in a trade
  17. Seems like with what little we need and where we are payroll wise now vs last year that it makes a lot of sense to spend the big money on Jansen or Chapman. But yeah, I guess I'd be fine with adding Daniel Hudson and like Blevins and pretty much being done if that starter doesn't come available via trade.
  18. I love this idea and have said I wanted to target him as a bullpen option a few weeks ago. If you take out those 33 hits and 9 innings he only gave up 32 hits in 59 innings this year....
  19. What are the injuries he's had over the last two years that have caused him to miss about half the games each season?
  20. It's so early in the offseason that there's obviously potential for more moves and I'll give the FO the benefit of the doubt. But going into the year with Jay/Almora as our CF seems to be kinda risky and half-assing it out there and with the OF in general. Conversely if saving money on the OF means bringing back Chapman or signing Jansen consider me onboard.
  21. I'm biased against him, but don't really see the appeal. He was never a high ceiling prospect, and his numbers so far paint the picture of a guy getting figured out. For example: Conforto v. RHP Thru April 2016: 252 PA, .306/.377/.595, .405 wOBA, 10% BB%, 20% K% After April 2016: 222 PA, .196/.293/.376, .292 wOBA, 11% BB%, 27% K% He's been heavily shielded against LHP too, and for good reason(68 PA, .336 OPS, .190 wOBA). I look at Conforto and I see Chris Coghlan(I don't think Conforto is anything but an emergency CF). That has its uses, but for the 2017 Cubs I'd rather just sign Chris Coghlan. Fair enough. I don't have any care to get him either but I thought there are some guys on here who, or at least at one point, liked him.
  22. Is there a fit or want for Confoto and do we have something(s) the Mets would want? They are going to trade someone from their OF it seems like. Would like Rondon and Caratini (they need catching I feel like) be worth it?
  23. Based on how well Kang and Kim have translated to big league hitting I think this was a very worthwhile gamble. I agree, just surprising to see it come at the expense of the the National League home run leader, though obviously teams are a lot smarter and realize that one-dimensional sluggers aren't as valuable as they once were. Carter will latch on as a DH somewhere I'm sure. If the Blue Jays can't resign Encarnacion or find someone adequate to replace him, Carter might be a fit there. He's like a poor man's Encarnacion already. Yeah Carter to the Jays or Orioles makes a lot of sense as a cheaper replacement for EE/Bautista or Trumbo
  24. I wish Jim Bowden still ran a MLB team
