  1. Gomez back to the Rangers for 1/11.5.
  2. [tweet] [/tweet] If you want to try and connect some dots to Soler-Davis being nearly done this could be it, Rangers were apparently interested in Georgie as a RHH OF/DH. They could be bringing Gomez back now because they've been told Soler is in another trade.
  3. I'd rather just bring Hammel back or take injury risk signings on like Tyson Ross and Brett Anderson for only money than give up any trade chips for either of those two.
  4. Probably when he was our best offensive player in the 2015 playoffs
  5. I'm gonna hold out hope part of the reason for moving Soler in this deal is because they feel there's a window to bring Dexter back.
  6. Right.... I would like to say I'm not "anti-javy," I think he has clear value and a use on this team (as you just illustrated above with him subbing for Heyward/Schwarbs vs LHP and Zobrist going to the OF). It's just that I think it stops at anything more than a platoon player vs LHP and late inning defensive/base running sub. I am extremely skeptical of him being able to do anything vs RHP moving forward and being more of a full-time guy. Sure if we have the luxury of a big division lead again this year in the 2nd half go wild with him seeing RHP every day for 2-3 weeks, I just think it's not a good plan to plan on him playing a lot more this year vs RHP and expecting him give us a lot of value/contribute to wins offensively.
  7. Seriously down the road but not completed tonight probably means at least one of the teams wants to dig deeper into medicals or do physicals. And with these two guys it could be both teams (Davis's arm and Jorge's hamstring).
  8. horsefeathers. In Theo I trust, but don't like giving up Soler one bit for Davis.
  9. Javy absolutely helped us get to and win a WS, I will never argue against that. There's still red flags all over him that he shouldn't be more than a platoon player/defensive sub. Also vs RHP in the playoffs.... .265/.280/.469 (.749) with 17 Ks and 1 BB in 49 ABs. Those numbers aren't godawful (well, the Ks are) when you consider they came against generally high level RHP and his overall numbers look good despite his pressing for most of the WS. If I'm not mistaken that was also the longest run of games he had in a row all year. Even with his WS dip he showed well. Who's to say he can't build on that when he gets to consistently face RHP not named Jansen or Kluber? That slash line he put up is a crazy aberration and would absolutely not be sustainable over the long haul. SSS but those 49 playoff abs vs RHP translate to him having a .367 BABIP with a ~35% K rate and ~2% BB rate. Those numbers combined together are going to lead to failure. No player who qualified last year put up a K rate that high in the regular season, only 6 players that qualified put up a higher BABIP (all of whom had a 10-20+ K% lower than 35%) and no player had a BB% lower than 3%. The 35% K rate, 2% BB rate and ~.370 BABIP player can't sustainably exist as a successful offensive baseball player over a full season.
  10. Got it. Well this scenario of not having Javy isn't that big of a deal to me over whoever the back up SS would be because Javy would be mostly a glove only backup, IMO, if he has to expand to a starting role for a ~month with not having the luxury of being protected vs RHP and facing favorable pitching matchups. You mean a month like October where he played like a cheat code for three weeks? Javy absolutely helped us get to and win a WS, I will never argue against that. There's still red flags all over him that he shouldn't be more than a platoon player/defensive sub. Also vs RHP in the playoffs.... .265/.280/.469 (.749) with 17 Ks and 1 BB in 49 ABs.
  11. He still was a horsefeathers player vs RHP this year. He's a great weapon to have as a backup to pick and choose his offensive matchups vs LHP and late inning defense but I'm not seeing anything he's done, or shown improvement on vs RHP, to really warrant giving him a larger role in 2017 unless forced to do so. And like I said above in the scenario you start taking away his RHP protection you are looking at a glove only guy in the lineup most days.
  12. How do you get to 35-40 starts out of Kawasaki? LaStella would pick up ABs, Zobrist would be at 2B a lot more, Schwarber hopefully takes more than the 125 games and ~550 ABs Fowler leaves open, Jay/Almora r getting a full season, etc? And for PH 2 of Soler, Schwarber, Jay, Almora or Heyward have to be on the bench to start a game, 1 of Bryant, Zobrist or LaStella do as well and most likely 1 of Montero/Contreras (assuming no Willy in the OF). Having Javy as insurance if Addy gets hurt is what he's talking about. A 15-20 game stretch without Addy, puts the 35-40 starts Tim is proposing, as a reality. Having THIS type of quality depth is something no one else has. Its valuable. Got it. Well this scenario of not having Javy isn't that big of a deal to me over whoever the back up SS would be because Javy would be mostly a glove only backup, IMO, if he has to expand to a starting role for a ~month with not having the luxury of being protected vs RHP and facing favorable pitching matchups.
  13. That's a good move for them. Should be able to flip him next year and if he can come back soon enough this year and be the player he was in 2016 and they decide to keep everyone I could see them being in the WC hunt.
  14. [tweet] [/tweet]I trust the FO and they deserve my benefit of the doubt but I hate that trade if those are the players involved. It would help if moving Soler frees up a spot to bring Fowler back though.

  16. Please don't be us [tweet] [/tweet]
  17. I probably would roughly agree. But I'm one of the guys on the board who is the most bearish on Javy long-term and don't really like him. I think there's major warts. I'd really like to move him this offseason and sell high. He has value but it's as a defensive wizard who will probably handle LHP at an above average rate but not great and still have ugly peripherals/plate discipline against them and can't/shouldn't face much RHP.
  18. Maybe it's just because I want it to be the other way and want to believe Passan over him.... But it seems like Passan is usually a lot more tuned in to this kind of stuff than Rosenthal is. Rosenthal seems more like a lip service, breaking major league signings/trades. Passan seems to have better info on amateurs/inner workings of MLB.* *I have no evidence to back this up
  19. I want this to happen so bad right now. What would it take? Javy alone? Happ and Cease?
  20. Or does this deal give us the framework for rough value for Archer? Javy, Eloy, Cease, Underwood and whoever they like best of Jeimer/Zagunis/Caritini? Or what about Javy for Eduardo Rodriguez? Or what would it take for Rodriguez now that there's an additional rotation piece in Boston?
  21. Sorry, Nats [tweet] [/tweet]
  22. If the Nats get Sale they are going to trade Gio Gonzalez apparently. I think I'm mildly intrigued by him, he makes $12 mil this year and has a team option for the same next year. He seems like a decent 5th starter/swingman guy at worst and nice replacement of Hammel in the rotation and allows us to keep Monty in the pen and/or even worth trying to turn into a version of Andrew Miller. The cost should be lower than getting an Odorizzi type, you'd think, if the FO feels those prices are prohibitive.
  23. From GRB "Goold on Fowler -- "Money isn't the issue. Opt-out years. Age at end of contract. Length of contract" are the deciding factors." Sounds like they might be close on a contract. Except for the parts about the years, or the options, or opt outs, or you know only minor things.... It would be so awesome if we swooped in again and stole and OF from them. Especially if it's because we gave Fowler an opt-out after this year and next and they wouldn't and he ends up coming cheaper than their overall offer.
  24. Maybe Coghlan was just taking the duties of the commissioners office into his own hands
