  1. Not saying I'd do it but we could have basically of done this trade for Walker for Baez and parts, no?
  2. Fowler was graded at and widely considered a below average CF defender before we acquired him and we turned him into an average to a little above average defender out there. I'm fairly confident we could take a slightly above average LF defender (who has CF experience) and get league average defense out of him in CF.
  3. Oregon showing once again they are one of the most overrated teams in the country
  4. I am intrigued by Gardner as a platoon option with Almora. ~.350 career OBP vs RHP and ~.370 last year replaces Dexter quite nicely and with Heyward in RF and our positioning/coaching I think we could cheat our way into him being league averagish in CF.
  5. Odorizzi is a FA after 2019, Bauer after 2020. Bauer has pedigree and offers TOR upside while Odorizzi I think has reached his ceiling as a solid MOR starter but has a safer floor, imo. There's definitely more volatility and uncertainty with Bauer. To the point a move to the bullpen may be the best use of him/his stuff in the future. I still prefer Bauer.

  7. He was at .769 this year.... With a .275 BABIP, which with his profile/speed that's probably accurate and in the range of where he likely should be. But with any combination of a little more BABIP luck, slight uptick in BB rate and/or power and little decline in k rate he relatively easily can get there. It's not really a "stretch."
  8. Olney just put up an article talking about how the Orioles should consider trading Britton.... Would something like Soler, Caratini, Happ and Jeimer be enough for Britton and Tillman or Bundy?
  9. You still have to pay him whatever he's owed on his contract if he goes unclaimed/isn't traded. OK, thanks. So basically if no one picks him up, he gets the league minimum or whatever his lowest arbitration number would have been? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Designated_for_assignment Also see my edit.
  10. You can just DFA a guy who got injured while on the Major League roster last year? I didn't know that. Even in the NFL, you get an injury settlement. You still have to pay him whatever he's owed on his contract if he goes unclaimed/isn't traded. And if he goes through waivers unclaimed and becomes the FA and the signing team signs him for less than his guaranteed contract the DFA'ing team still needs to pay the difference.
  11. The Packers suck
  12. May be a weird question, but when they come out with the World Series ring do they typically make replicas fans can buy? I obviously am not talking about one with real diamonds and metals. I think it would be a cool collector item for my home office.
  13. I think he's earned a little bit of blind trust with whatever move(s) he makes this offseason
  14. Derek Holland?
  15. I think this really illustrates the misunderstanding of the scale that relievers operate on. I'd give Chapman something absurd like 6/180 before I considered Cecil at 7-8 million. Chapman and Jansen are cheat codes and have proven themselves far more immune to the volatility that suppresses reliever cost than Cecil. Thinking Jansen/Chapman are too expensive at 4-6 years and 80-140 million but then being fine with Cecil at 4/30-40 is just trying to half ass something instead of whole assing one thing
  16. Well, Jansen and Chapman are getting 5+ years and $100+ million
  17. He's 31 and came out of nowhere last year, but I wonder if this could be someone we go after. I don't think he'd take a premium prospect, maybe something like Villanueva and Zaz would get it done.
  18. I'd get over it pretty quick having the 2 best players in baseball on the team for the next 5-6 next years, at least, while in their primes.
  19. The more I think of it.... we should just sell out for Trout if the Angels are at least willing to "listen." Offer Schwarber, Baez, 1 of Soler/Almora, Eloy, and whatever 2-3 guys they want out of the Zagunis/Caratini/EJM/Dewees/Jeimer level guys for Trout, Escobar (takes Javys spot) and Cam Bedrosian (late inning bullpen option). Then go re-sign Fowler (probably moves to LF). The roster would be OF: Fowler/Trout/Heyward/And 1 of Almora or Soler IF: Bryant/Russell/Zobrist/Rizzo/Escobar/LaStella C: Willson/Montero SP: Arrieta/Lester/Hendricks/Lackey/Montgomery or FA/Trade RP: 1 of Montgomery or FA/Trade/Grimm/Zaz/Strop/Bedrosian/Rondon/Edwards
  20. I'd probably prefer Bauer over any of the reasonable targets (Odorizzi, etc,). And may even prefer him the most even vs Sale, Quintana and Archer when acquisition cost is factored in. Would 1 of Soler/Almora, Zaz and like Jeimer be enough?
  21. Didn't know that.... Guessing it will be a Holland situation next offseason then with a showcase type deal. Guessing he's gonna gamble on himself and not take anything stupid cheap now and no team is giving him anything decent. Thought he may have a few controlled years left.
  22. The Yankees DFA'd Eovaldi. I know he's probably dead but I think he'd be an okay guy to take a health risk/long-term flyer on as a relief pitcher reclamation project.
  23. I think it's pretty clear the FO thinks next to nothing of Rivero. His numbers in 14' and last year were good/intriguing enough to warrant a Schlitter/Joe Smith type roster spot/audition and they didn't call him up then and didn't even give him a September call up..
  24. This is all conjecture but in scenario 1 you sign Fowler as well. Go with Trout/Fowler in LF/CF and move Zobrist to 2B. Also try and get Yunel Escoabr included in the trade as a utility guy. We'd also need to add a Angel Pagan, Gregor Blanco, etc type as a 4th OF option.
  25. I say yes to all of those. I think the Angels at least think about the first 2. Doubt they do about the 3rd. Happ may need to be involved in some scenarios as well. I also think we'd have to include some more pieces in all 3. Zagunis, Jeimer, EJM, Clifton, etc ancillary trade type pieces in a deal of this magnitude.
