  1. It is very Rizzo with where he's starting but it seems like Heyward is still moving/loading his hands a ton, which seems to be a big issue with throwing off his timing. Rizzo's hands are a lot more "quiet" when he's actually taking his swing. But baby steps with Heyward I guess.
  2. It seems like such a coin toss injury to recover from but like you said if we are this interested and do sign him I'd be encouraged since the FO doesn't tend to go after the injury/reclamation guys.
  3. If we sign him I'll go all MetsRefugee Matt Harvey comeback excited and set my expectations for him the same as they have for their rotation injury comebackpalooza to spice things up around here.
  4. He's not
  5. "Assume nothing, don't worry about money" should be the Braves new motto after they stole all that taxpayer money
  6. I haven't looked at the exact numbers but I think the Rockies are paying Gerrardo Parra, Ian Desmond and Mike Dunn more than our entire starting IF and OF if you take Heyward out.
  7. The Rockies just signed Mike Dunn to 3/19. Okay then
  8. Salaries are already huge for the non mega-stars (Lebron, Curry, Durant etc). The low-middle class guys cleaned up this past offseason.
  9. I look forward to scoring 8+ runs off him when we play them and then 10+ runs off Shields the next day.
  10. Rogers also tweeted he took less to sign with us and had bigger offers on the table
  11. Maybe he was just never that good but I'd love to get Appel
  12. They were planning on it, but the loss of evanstonian as a season ticket holder sustaining them really put a long-term damper on their capital expenditures
  13. I'm not a huge fan of going after Duffy, yes he's good, but I think you are going to have to pay for an ace to get him (either with players in a trade or money in FA) and you are getting more of a ~2.5 WAR pitcher. Which is fine, just overpriced.
  14. The QBs in this draft suck, you'd be an idiot to draft one early in the first let alone 1.1. Just wait out to see who's there in the 2nd-4th round if you want to take one.
  15. If he came for near literal nothing and cost like Corey Black sure. But I wouldn't give anything more considering his salary and injury risk
  16. I like/liked him more as a candidate to try and turn a hurt/failed starter into a relief pitcher and still do. I'm guessing someone gives him a chance to start, which I don't really care to do.
  17. That seems like a really great contract even if he's only elite for 2-3 years of it.
  18. I can't see him staying healthy enough to get it with how he plays/what it will take for him to get there but yeah it sure is fun to watch right now while he's still going for it every night.
  19. If the goal is to mainly clear payroll I wonder what a Wilson and Verlander package deal would take to get from us. Clearing those two from their books would save them ~$30 million this year alone.
  20. Is Bud Norris guaranteed to get a major league contract? He's not a young or sexy name, but he's been on 4 teams in the last 2 years and I believe cut by at least 1 (Dodgers last year) but as a depth piece on a split minor league/major league contract he'd be a decent option if we aren't going to trade for anyone.
  21. Pitchers just horsefeathering suck, don't they
  22. My guess is, and likely more than once, that people got kicked out of the seats for being drunken idiots and they pulled the tickets.
  23. It's daddy. Also UCLA fans hate Bryce because daddy keeps playing him over better players especially considering his lack of defense. I think he's playing him in a role that is much more representative of his skill this year. Other than Holiday who is he really playing over? And Holiday as the 6th man/offensive minded bench player is a good use of him
  24. I don't have any problem with Monty in the rotation this year, I have a problem with Aaron Brooks, Zastryzny, Pierce Johnson, etc. being the 6th and 7th options for starters. Monty just seems like the easiest guy to move to the pen if we acquire another SP. At least to begin the year.
  25. As a starter probably 2020 as a relief pitcher maybe 2019. Wtf that's a long horsefeathering time. Get him up before he wastes his bullets To use Giolito as a rough road map it took him 3 years to reach the majors from the time he pitched any remotely significant innings in the minors (his TJS happened earlier than Cease's I believe leading in to the draft so he already had a head start from draft to pitching again) and it is going to be 4 years before he starts his first full year in the majors which is this coming year. So that puts Cease at 2019ish ETA as a full-time guy. I may have over guessed by a year but it's probably no earlier than 2018 mid-season and that would likely be as a relief option, IMO. As a starter, if he reaches that potential, I'm not banking on him until 2019 or 2020. Hopefully he proves me wrong and rips through the minors and stays healthy so we can get to using those bullets. Which I'm all in favor of doing because horsefeathers pitchers.
