  1. Law ranked us as the 18th best system. Which is probably fairish and the difference between 12-20 isn't all that great so it's kinda semantics where exactly we fall. Here is what he said....
  2. Top of my head of guys I really wanted who we didn't end up with.... 1 of Pujols/Fielder/Dunn for 1B, Vlad, Beltran, Furcal, Gil Meche, Josh Johnson as a flyer for the last however many years, Pudge, are what I can think of. I wanted Milton Bradley and was convinced he was a great pick up and well yeah...
  3. I'm all about making fun of the Orioles. But HOW is getting a 5 year younger Trumbo, who hit 47 homers AND keeping your 1st Rounder, a worse idea than signing a declining Bautista, at 36 and losing your 1st rounder in the process? 3/37.5 isn't remotely a bad contract. The 1st rounder doesn't matter, because they gave up receiving a 1st rounder by resigning Trumbo. Also, Trumbo has had one good half of baseball in the last 3 years. Giving a DH who has only exceeded an .800OPS two times in the last 6 half seasons nearly 40M seems like the opposite of a good deal. They could have given Chris Carter 1/8 and gotten the same results. Yeah the smart and prudent move would have been to re-sign Pedro Alvarez to a 1 year deal along with Carter for 1 year (probably for under $20 mil total for the 2) and have them be a platoon DH duo, almost certainly would've given you more production than Trumbo for less money and years.

This. A virtual steal from the O's. eh, he literally needs to hit 40+ HRs a year to have any ounce of value. It's not a crazy contract that's going to sink them or prevent them from anything but if he's not hitting for league leading type HR power every year he provides no value.
  5. Josh Johnson retired due to continued arm problems, that sucks. When he was right he was one of the best and I always wanted him as a target for us. horsefeathers pitchers
  6. I haven't watched the Knicks much this year but knowing the dumpster fire they are I like to think Melo is just going full Phillip Seymour Hoffman from Along Came Polley every night on the court http://i.makeagif.com/media/12-15-2015/8wu0gH.gif
  7. Brewers sign Neftali Feliz to a 1/5.35 contract. Not a bad move at all, I would've been fine with mostly just signing him for that deal and Holland as our offseason BP additions. Also probably prefer him over Uehara on that deal
  8. That's not depth, that's a lottery ticket
  9. http://www.stltoday.com/sports/baseball/professional/hackgate-punishment-could-come-before-spring-training/article_cbe9818d-03a7-5b45-8c25-86d71f4e2ed3.html
  10. He had some decent number in limited innings last year (15 IP). 8.4 K/9, nearly 55% GB rate, averaged 92.5 on his FB and topped out at ~95, looks like he's pretty much a FB and Cutter/Slider pitcher out of the pen.
  11. What kept him out for most of the season last year? Seems like a decent enough depth option if the medicals check out. I think he's had just about every arm/shoulder injury a pitcher can have over the last few years
  12. They aren't bad, but the Big Ten is pretty bad this year. I could see only 5 teams getting in the tournament.
  13. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that tournament Lackey/Lester play in is something they've been doing every year for quite some time. It also benefits a horsefeathering Children's Hospital so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt along with Arrieta (since he also left the convention early) on top of it already being mentioned this WH trip was scheduled on short notice.
  14. Royals and Duffy agree to a 5/65 extension. Seems really cheap, he probably would've gotten $100+ million next offseason on the open market. Don't blame him for locking in significant money though to mitigate an injury/regression.
  15. Wil Myers signs a 6/80+ extension. 3 of the years are arbitration years, 3 are FA years per Twitter/Rosenthal
  16. Strength in the draft HS Pitchers, horsefeathers that and horsefeathers them. Hopefully we pick something different.
  17. Is that true though, assuming you aren't counting the team that took the field in the WS with Schwarber? In: Schwarber, Jay, Davis, Uehara, Duensing Out: Chapman, Fowler, Ross, Cahill, Hammel Up in air: Wood, Smith, Coghlan I guess it is but not to the point where I'd be too concerned. I'm concerned about the pitching, pitchers inherently suck and are unpredictable and if the 5 penciled in the rotation choose to do that right now the back ups can get real ugly, real quick. I know you can't plan for 2-3+ guys sucking or getting hurt but the non-existent depth for a single injury/regression scares the horsefeathers out of me.
  18. Hammel on a 1 year like $8-11 mil deal with 1-2 option years seems like a no brainer at this point.
  19. I hate our SP depth
  20. My favorite book right now is either Caesar's or Mirage. Wynn's is nice too. The new poker room at Encore has a sportsbook window, so I will probably be spending a lot of time there the next time I go. :-" Like I said Bally's isn't going to win any awards for being the nicest/most up to date but it gets the job done for me for the reasons I mentioned. I was out there over Thanksgiving and spent nearly my entire time in there over 4 straight days. I've never been to the Mirage's book but have been to Caesar's and the Wynn's. I like both as both are really nice, just find Caesar's can get way too crowded and the Wynn is a little bit out of the way for me typically with where I stay. The sportsbook window at the poker room could get a little dangerous, but sounds like a nice set up. I'm thinking of going out there for 2-3 days during Super Bowl week to make some bets (like Tue-Thursday, I did it last year and it was fun to get on some of the props and what not) then the next trip for sure for me will be in July during NBA Summer League.
  21. Rogers said we have settled with some players already but only mentioned Rondon specifically. He got $5.8 million.
  22. I stay at Bally's probably 99% of the time I go. I think they have the best sports book out there for on the strip hotels/casinos, may not be the most up to date but there's always plenty of seating, can get 1-3 of your own TVs to switch between games/follow multiple bets and they are pretty generous with their free drink vouchers when you place bets.
  23. Justin Thomas just shot a 59 at the Sony Open in Hawaii. I don't think there's ever been so much great, young talent in golf before. This upcoming season should be a lot of fun.
