  1. This is a positive step towards some sort of resolution to get him over here this year, you'd assume, since the the article I posted above last week casted serious doubt.
  2. Try to keep your excitement under control, fellas
  3. That's the only reason I hesitate in believing he'll be a Cub. Otherwise I'd consider it a done deal. I look at it the other way that it’s more likely he’s a Cub since his contract will likely be lower with teams not wanting to give up the pick/money. Plus we recoup a decent amount back by letting Arrieta/Davis go.
  4. Chacin could make a really interesting 2nd or 3rd SP addition this offseason, he literally has one of the best sliders in MLB
  5. Those contract numbers floated by MLB Trade Rumors were really bad for Cobb. He's going to get far closer to 100M than he will the 4/48 they suggest. On a side note, the Reds didn't offer Zack Cozart a QO which would make him an amazing option should Theo decide to move one of of Russell or Baez. I know he had a really great year this past year and obviously he's a good option to have to replace Javy/Russell if one is traded but I don't get the Cozart love especially since he didn't get QO'd he'll probably get a decent contract. He's a career .250/.300/.430 hitter and has had more below average offensive years than above average since 2012 and he's 32. I know the defense is really good and yeah if Russell is traded I'd rather have him than not but him being available shouldn't make trading Russell any more likely/easy, IMO.
  6. Cueto didn’t opt out of his deal, I wonder if that makes it any more likely Samardzija is or isn’t traded?
  7. Russell and Cozart are pretty much the same offensive players for their career even throwing in Cozart’s outlier year at 32. They both literally have a .309 career wOBA and 90 WRC+. Unless Cozart is going all Babe Murphy I’d say it’s a pretty good bet Russell is better than him over the life of whatever contract Cozart gets. Unless we are getting Stroman for Russell I’m not trading him. Well yeah that would be the point. Russell makes a strong primary piece for a SP trade (probably as good of a piece to dangle as any team has so I think a play for Stroman is certainly plausible) and we can probably bet on Cozart at least being an excellent defender and good bet for 2ish WAR with a good bit of realistic upside beyond that. Plus he might not cost a pick to sign. It's a very risky move because Russell still has so much room for growth but I see it as the move that can land that hugely important CCSP without doing a tremendous amount of damage to the roster. Yeah I get this thinking but I just don’t like the risk. Feels like we’d get burned more times than not with Russell turning in to a star and the SP we get dying. I don’t want to make that bet. I’d rather trade Happ for a lower level type cost controlled SP if we go that route like a Foltynewicz just as an example. Hell I'd probably even rather trade Happ for Samardzija than Russell for Stroman and sign Cozart, I like Russell that much.

  9. They lost by 17 to the Pacers at home tonight. They might not be good. And today they lost to the horsefeathering Hawks at home. Yikes
  10. I’m not entirely sure an undefeated Wisconsin gets in now. Their best win would be vs a 2 or 3 loss PSU/OSU Would they deserve to? Probably not. But I don't think the powers that be would want to deal with the giant conniption the entire conference would throw. My guess is if Wisconsin ran the table there would be enough carnage elsewhere to justify it. Maybe if the 12-0 Georgia/12-0 Bama scenario played out, plus two of ND/Clemson/Oklahoma winning out, a 13-0 Wisconsin would still get shafted. But that's about the only way I can see it. Yeah it takes a lot of other, unlikely, things but I could see it. I do think Osu or psu beat them tho
  11. Well their only chance now is Wisconsin running the table, and even an uneven Ohio State team should be able to handle them if they show up IMO. (That's, of course, assuming Michigan State doesn't beat OSU, which is far from a given at the moment.) I’m not entirely sure an undefeated Wisconsin gets in now. Their best win would be vs a 2 or 3 loss PSU/OSU
  12. My Theo FU Offseason would be something like Sign Darvish Re-sign Wade Sign Nicasio sign McGee Sign Eduardo Nunez Trade Russell/Javy (prefer Javy), Heyward, Alzolay, Caritini, Zas/Tseng and another minor leaguer or 2 for Stroman, Tulo and Martin Trade Happ, Ademan, Zagunis for Yelich and Stanton (they throw in ~20-40 mil after his option years) Position players C Contreras 1B Rizzo 2B Javy/Tulo SS Russell/Javy/Tulo 3B KB LF Schwarbs CF Yelich RF Stanton Bench: Zobrist, Nunez, Almora, Martin Rotation Lester Darvish Stroman Q Hendricks Bullpen Wade Carl McGee Nicasio Strop Wilson Maples Monty
  13. The Big Ten sucks, they shouldn’t get a team in the playoffs
  14. I overall like this but agree that my shot at it as well was more of a kinda what I see happens with a dash of what I want than this is what I want/best case.
  15. I hate getting hopes up over pitching prospects, especially dreaming of a mid to high end SP prospect but damn I’m hopeful for him
  16. How is this a big win for a team looking to cut payroll/get below the tax? He’s owed 22, 22 and 23 million the next 3 years.
  17. Yeah I think the risk way outweighed the reward for him.
  18. I mean there is a tear in his elbow/arm, right? He’s just pitching through it/getting that injection?
  19. Darvish, Jake, Cobb and Lynn all just got a little more expensive most likely
  20. That's a shame, this could have been a huge boost. Eh, the probability of him staying healthy for 120-140+ games and being his 2014/15 self is probably lower than Heyward getting back to being something like his 2012-15 self.
  21. I'll give it a try.... This isn’t my ideal/preferred route (I’d like to keep at least 1 of Jake/Wade and just spend money to fill the pitching and keep all the position guys but that doesn’t seem like that’s possible/what they want) but I think this in line with what they’ve said and is my guess and what I think they will do (not necessarily what I want) I’d be mostly fine with it but just don’t love it. Let's start with the assumption no Otani FA signings: Alex Cobb 3/55 Michael Pineda 2/24 with a 3rd year team option for about $12-15 mil (pay for the rehab/chance he comes back next year) Eduardo Nunez 2/17 Juan Nicasio 3/18 Jake McGee 2/14 Pat Neshek 2/10 Rene Rivera 1/5.5 with an option 1-2 of Wily Peralta, Bucholz, Gee, Garza, Anibal Sanchez type on minor league/ST invite deals Trade: Happ, Caritini, Zas/Tseng and minor leaguers (throw in Grimm or Rondon since I think we don't bring either back if they want a bullpen reclamation) for Mike Foltynewicz, Inciarte and one of their mid-low level minor league SP (Patrick Weigel looks interesting, but prospect guys you tell me) 25 Man Opening Day Roster: Position Players: C Contreras 1B Rizzo 2B Javy SS Russell 3B KB LF Schwarber CF Inciarte RF Heyward Bench: Zobrist, Nunez, Rivera, Almora Pitchers: Starters: Lester Hendricks Q Cobb Folty Bullpen: Carl Nicasio McGee Neshek Strop Maples Wilson Monty
  22. Would something like Happ to the Braves for Folty and one of their minor league pitchers (they have so many) make sense/be fair?
  23. Yeah I’m not trading Russell and Schwarber for Archer
  24. Silver lining we now get to bet against Blake Bortles and profit in a first round playoff game
  25. I’d be fine and comfortable going in to the year with that rotation, I don’t think we need to make the big trade in this scenario. Just make a smaller trade for a Monty type and/or sign some combo of Ross, Pineda, Dickey, Buchholz, Dillon Gee, Anibal Sanchez, Wily Peralta, Garza, etc to minor league deals with call up date deadlines (I don’t think many, if any of those guys get guaranteed MLB contracts this year). Save the trade chip bullets for in season if the rotation falls apart somewhere or in multiple spots.
