  1. I’m skeptical how much of a difference these coaches make over the others (obviously there’s bad ones and the bad/stupid ones are bad and stupid and have negative effects but our FO is smart enough to avoid those, the guys at the top all are roughly the same and it’s probably just what strengths/weaknesses you want). That being said, I think we made upgrades pretty much across the board today on the new hires even if it was marginal.
  2. Yeah I mean he’s a big regression candidate for me but it’s also so cheap (even for a poor ass team like the Brewers) that it’s a pretty good deal under the off chance he’s able to maintain the velo uptick/stay healthy when he’s on the wrong side of the aging curve and if he does die off it’s very little money. Also, again it’s likely little money and 1 year, but anytime you can keep your 31 year old journeyman 2B around who had his first over .300 WOBA year and first time over .4 WAR year in 5 years you gotta do it.
  3. There’s always a lot of moves worth mentioning but don’t need their own thread. So figured I’d start one. VB’s made 2 moves today to reamin pretty vaunted. Re-signed Sogard to a 1 year deal and signed Chase Anderson to a 4 year extension, 2 years guaranteed and 2 team options after (pretty good extension for them with little risk and only upside).
  4. Got this from Cubs Insider, Hinske obviously has to know what he's doing but seems like we definitely upgraded from a teaching/technical standpoint by having Haines replace him. I also wonder if by having him on the big league coaching staff we can deduce Schwarber may being staying (probably reading way toooooo much in to it but it's something).
  5. Rodgers says he had 13 screws put in his collarbone to fix it...... that seems like a lot
  6. Who would be the option if Hickey for whatever reason chose the Giants? Lilliquist, maybe Rothschild with Girardi gone, Frank Viola, and Righetti off the top of my head
  7. Theo’s comments last week were pretty clear that Monty is gonna remain the swing guy.
  8. Joe’s gone drunk on power (and wine) after Theo said the coaching decisions are up to him
  9. Great game, better result
  10. Yeah, obvious it’s a bit of Monday morning quarterbacking since we know the results but def some questionable moves by the “tactical master.” Most of them I can see the logic but the Stripling/Morrow thing seemed bad and overthinking the Hill thing a bit, like you said 5 righties due up and 5th time through, but he’s no slouch and probably should let him stay out there with Maeda ready.
  11. *I know it’s a Barstool Tweet*. But it was retweeted in to my timeline. What was this guy doing?!? Like what’s the end game here, pal? https://twitter.com/barstoolsports/status/923403862467338240
  12. He’ll probably be “hurt” and off the roster by Friday’s game
  13. This is amazing, must be like watching Game 7 was like last year for people with no rooting interest
  14. Nice Dong, Marwin Edit: Nice Dong, former Cub GREAT, Marwin Gonzalez
  15. I feel like anytime the announcers mention the Dodgers pitchers not going more than 5/3rd time through a lot this season they need to mention the Dodgers have a dozen starting pitchers (kudos on that) and abused the 10 day DL to a ridiculous (nearly illegal) point to be able to do it.
  16. But the game was only 2 1/2 hours last night I thought shorter games meant more people would watch?!?
  17. TT I hope you had the DVD fired up to catch that first pitch. Cherish it
  18. He also seems to think Russell is the most likely gone by some of his comments. God I hope he’s wrong and just being his usually dumb self. I will say that if they're going to trade Russell, it's going to be going big, like the Archer possibility he mentioned. I don't see Russell getting traded for the next version of Drew Pomeranz or w/e. With that in mind I can see that being an outcome, but I don't think Cameron's confidence/insistence is a good barometer of how likely it is. Yeah to me if we trade Russell it has to be Archer/Stroman level pitcher and even then I think that’s just shuffling value and don’t know how it makes us that much better. I’ll trust the FO with whatever they do but I find it hard to think trading Russell is a good move for us.
  19. If we do end up with Otani how does that change the likelihood we trade one of the major league position players? To me if we get him I don’t trade anyone for a pitcher and just use money on Cobb, Chatwood, Jake, etc.
  20. He also seems to think Russell is the most likely gone by some of his comments. God I hope he’s wrong and just being his usually dumb self.
  21. Yeah I don’t want him to go and don’t think they will/want to trade him either. Happ is the most likely to go for me with Almora next.
  22. I’m glad we haven’t heard of any guys getting any surgeries, by now you’d think that would be out. I was kinda worried we’d hear Russell was going to have something done to his foot/shoulder and to lesser extents there could’ve been something with Bryant’s thumb, Hendricks wrist/finger and Schwarber’s knee. So it’s good it’s likely just R&R for everyone this offseason.
  23. I guess we could maybe get him cheaper if we promise him he can be the closer
  24. Yeah for that I’d do it, I’d be hesitant to go much higher in years and money
