  1. This also could be simpler that it’s a Maddon/Renteria situation. They were perfectly fine with Bosio but a much better coach became available in Hickey so they are doing whatever it takes to add him.
  2. Probably by starting with the realization there's not "junk" to shore up.
  3. That was a very good assessment of the team, though. It was the lazy get traffic assessment of the team and not really understanding that we are in a still really big window.
  4. SPEEEEEED, that had to be Phil Rogers
  5. I’m stealing this as my go to short response to all my idiot Brewer fan friends that are buying in to this narrative. Also just to add to it a bit everyone claiming the Cubs are gonna fall, it still takes a team from within the division to actually be, you know, good. Which there doesn’t seem to be right now as a guarantee. I don’t see any articles talking about how the Brewers don’t even have a window because they are cheap/poor, had almost everyone on their roster have career years out of nowhere and their best players right now are on the down slope of the performance/aging curve (including their best pitcher already dying) and they don’t have a Bryant/Rizzo coming anytime soon. And they couldn’t even make the playoffs with 80% of their roster likely having their best year ever.
  6. Always open to ideas and not attacking you but I think it’s looking WAY to much in to it and looking for a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist.
  7. So it seems like there's going to be a billion of these written this offseason because it's the easy, lazy, click baity thing to do. I would say have Duke put on the front page to the rebuttal of all this nonsense we've seen on this topic lately, but with his jinx powers he's the only thing I'm worried about causing this window to close early.
  8. I agree, this is likely how it plays out. While there will be rumors and options (I already proposed in transaction thread Happ+minor leaguers for Yelich and a contract) I think ultimately the whole offense is coming back. I submit Cameron Maybin for the RHH OF FA. I think the pitching is brought in using money and maybe some minor trades (LaStella, Zagunis, any of the minor league pitchers, etc).
  9. Is that Hendricks catching????? It looks like a taller, lankier white dude.
  10. I thought about suggesting something like this, but don't we already have a assistant hitting coach and Maddon helping too? If we hired another, I'm worried it would be too many chefs in the kitchen. Yeah idk what to do with Heyward. We do have an asst hitting coach but I forget the name. Adding another guy just might be too many noises like you said (though you’d like to think the org is smart enough to be voicing the same things to him on a unified front and not a million different suggestions). We’ve tried to do it “our way” it seems, so maybe the best thing is tell him go back to whatever you did in previous offseasons when he was a Brave (and whoever that was with) and see if that sticks instead of spending it in Arizona with “our” guys again. Or maybe he can move in with Kris Bryant’s dad over the offseason.
  11. The notion that you're letting a small sample of playoff games, in which we faced Strasburg x2, Kershaw x2, Darvish, Scherzer, Rich Hill and Jansen a bunch cloud your judgment that somehow our offense is bad and it's the hitting coaches fault. The offense sucked, but it was against very good pitchers who make offense look sucky more times than not. There's been plenty of guys who've shown real growth under Mallee this year and his whole time here and a lot of the underperforming this year can be attributed to non Mallee things like Injuries, aging and just generally still having a lot of guys learning on the job. We still had one of the best offenses in baseball this year. I could be wrong, but I think TT was responding to someone else entirely there, wasn't he? He was but I just wanted to add my 2 cents and my post was more of a global thing than just talking to woodchip
  12. What was ridiculous about what I was saying? The notion that you're letting a small sample of playoff games, in which we faced Strasburg x2, Kershaw x2, Darvish, Scherzer, Rich Hill and Jansen a bunch cloud your judgment that somehow our offense is bad and it's the hitting coaches fault. The offense sucked, but it was against very good pitchers who make offense look sucky more times than not. 13. Doing God's work, TT. This is horsefeathering ridiculous
  14. i mean at this point i think he's just a bad interview. he was making the rounds a lot 4 or 5 years ago with just about every opening, including us passing on him (want to say it was when we hired renteria and not sveum) Yeah could be, but you'd think smarter teams would know to get over a bad interview since he "seems" to get it and has been under Maddon's wing for so long (I know Maddon gets criticism, mostly deserved but he's probably one of the better guys to learn under in terms of how to manage a team through a whole season and being open to new things like shifting, moving guys around, etc.). Just is an odd thing but whatever hopefully it's a benefit to us that he's not going anywhere.
  15. Brewerfan.net chips in with their thread version of that horsefeathers bag article...... Their thread is titled "The Flaws of the Cubs, and can the Brewers avoid similar mistakes?" Some of my fav quotes; "I don't expect them to completely crash & burn, but I think they turned what could have been a decade-long dynasty into a much shorter window of potential success." "I agree with his premise though. Harper is a little more hype than production. Don't get me wrong, he's an outstanding player, but take away his 2015 season and he's really more of a 4-5 WAR player...Still great, but for a guy frequently compared to someone like Mike Trout levels of greatness, he's nowhere close. Trout is in a league of his own, but Harper is probably going to get that kind of level of elite money. I would love if the Cubs were the ones to give it to him." They WANT us to sign Bryce Harper, lol http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=36058
  16. Lol, that's awesome
  17. It's kinda weird that no team has asked to interview Dave Martinez while he's been here. I hope it's not some known flaw or lack of skills he has that is known within MLB that keeps that from happening and teams just think he won't be a good manager, because he seems to check a lot of boxes. I hope there's an understanding that when Joe is ready to leave Martinez is taking his spot so that's why he's sticking around/nobody is bothering to interview him.
  18. I posted that a couple days ago in the cards thread because I was going to be arguing with idiots down here that think it's gospel. Yep. The only one that slightly concerns me is Schwarber. If I went through what Russell went through this season when I was his age, I probably would have had a rough year at work too. Yeah I have my worries but it also was his first full year ever in the majors after missing an entire year of any baseball.
  19. Is he available when FA opens or are there other dates for guys like him? Is there a set window from when he’s available until he has to decide or is it like regular FA?
  20. I’d very much like to add him to play CF/fill the lead off role that we didn’t have this year. Would Happ and some minor leaguers be enough if we took back Volquez’s or Chen’s contract since they are looking to minimize payroll? I’d do both Almora and Happ if that’s what it took and take back a contract and then sign like Maybin to be the RHH OF
  21. I’m in the bring back Wade camp for a Melancon type deal. Him + McGee would be ideal then throw some horsefeathers against the wall with some ST invites/minor league deals. Liriano is another guy I like as a bullpen option. I’m also firmly in the keep Monty in the swing man/bullpen role to start the year and not 1 of the 5 starters to start the year. Shaw, Nicasio and McGee would be a nice trio to bring in if Wade goes to spread out the money he’d cost to keep himself.
  22. Fun year, fellas it was fun to enjoy it with you. We’ll be back next year
  23. Kershaw is gonna get pounded in the WS whoever he faces. He’s lucky we don’t have 2-3 more runs tonight
  24. Chris Taylor turning in to a ~5 WAR player this year would be like LaStella turning in to a ~5 win player. Truly maddening
  25. I’m going to keep watching because it’s the last chance for a while and there’s still things to take away. Also I hope the tactician leaves Kershaw in too long and his back gives out.
