  1. Well, I'll certainly be happy if G. Cole leaves our division and goes to the AL. I do feel bad for Pirates' fans though. They had a good run and now it's all falling apart slowly... I don’t know how realistic (or if he would be worth what they’d ask or we’d want to give it up) getting Cole ever was for us but him going to the Astros is a great outcome for us. Gets him out of the division and to one of the few teams who are in on Yu or Jake (and likely willing and able to spend even $85-100 million on a pitcher).
  2. Morosi amongst others have tweeted today that MLB and the union will be meeting this week to go over pace of play things and changes are almost guaranteed to be coming. In general I’m against most of the proposed rough ideas (mound visit limits as an example) because I don’t think cutting a game 5-10 minutes matters but I’ll wait to cast judgement to see what they actually do.
  3. We’ve literally known this for like 2 months, don’t know why that guy seems to be reporting that as new, news
  4. The biggest thing about Pierre I remember is that we were going to get Furcal too and re-create Pierre-Castillo from the Marlins. Then Furcal picked the Dodgers and blew up Lee’s wrist in early 2006.
  5. The horsefeathers is Juan Pierre doing there
  6. [dropshadow=blue][/dropshadow] I agree he shouldn't be traded for the sake of being traded, he is valuable in his current role. But if he is unhappy and they feel that will hurt things and he can be traded for go value by himself (before Britton blew out his Achilles a Monty as the main big league piece for Britton swap made some sense) or with someone else (part of a Cole, Yelich, or Archer trade also makes sense) I'd be fine with it.
  7. That’s seems like such a crazy move but Andy Reid in the playoffs isn’t known to have the greatest decision making process
  8. Olney is going through ranking the top 10 players at every position, his 3B rankings came out today and he has KB ranked 4th behind Arenado (1), Jose Ramirez (2) and Rendon (3).
  9. He seems like the high risk/injury profile pitcher they have shown to avoid. Especially for the likely acquisition cost (would think Schwarbs or Happ or Javy would be asked for). They seem to like guys with cleaner track records or defined injury like TJS (Lackey, Cobb, Darvish, wasn’t TJS but Wade’s elbow). Salazar is all over the place with injuries. Salazar would be a pretty hard pass for me unless the asking price was low like Monty being the main MLB piece (maybe they want some rotation stability, Monty wants to start and we want to take the risk on Salazar). Well it does appear they like to kick the tires each year at least so there's significant interest there. I guess they just haven't made a formal offer.I think the rumors of being connected to him are almost all media driven. I don’t think there’s ever been anything concrete on him or Carrasco or Bauer about offers. More just media speculation/mock trades, kinda like the Mets pitching rumors for Starlin/Javy/etc back in the day, mostly writers making stuff up that “makes sense.”

  11. Idk if I’ve ever seen a QB consistently miss wide open receivers as much as Bortles
  12. Watching the 2016 WS thing on MLBN right now and it’s on Game 2 with Jake...... just thinking about resigning him if the offer/our value of Cobb is 3/42 I find it really hard to believe our offer/what we’d go to/what we value him at is 4/110 on Jake. Jake is better than Cobb but I doubt the FO values him at ~$13 mil more a year in AAV over Cobb. I’d guess our offer is more like 3/65-70 or 4/85-90 to Jake at the max.
  13. Andy Reid is a gutless choking dog
  14. Yeah I don’t see it, would seem like we’d almost be bidding against ourselves getting to that range for him. Especially if it’s over 4 years. It’s been said before but I do think it’s true that we really control this FA SP right now

  16. this feels like the si,ultaneous csstro trade and zobrist signing there has to be something else happening contingent upon yelich and cain For Cain almost certainly you would think some other move is being coordinated with it that would have Almora/Happ going out (like for Cole like I mentioned above). Yelich, not so much just because I find it hard to believe Happ/Almora isn’t in a deal for him.
  17. I'd be fine with either of these routes the rest of the offseason Scenario 1: Almora or Happ, Monty, Ademan, a pitching prospect(s), and Caritini for Cole and Rivero Sign Cain Sign Avila Scenario 2: Happ, Monty, Ademan, Alzolay, and Albertos for Yelich Sign Yu Sign Liriano to take Monty's swing role Likely sign a cheaper backup C than Avila but still would like Avila the most if the contract worked
  18. Yelich
  19. Shocking the Mets are interested in players at a position of significant need but are too poor to afford them
  20. Now that Dick Lovelady has signed maybe the offseason can finally get moving [tweet] [/tweet]
  21. I'd rather overpay for Cobb or Lynn (let's just take Yu and Jake out of the equation) or even bargain shop and bring in 2-3 of guys like Hellickson, Bucholz, Feldman, Garcia, Vargas, Tillman, etc. to compete for the last rotation spot than give up that package for Teheran.
  22. It has to be sooner than that. Our first Spring Training game is 7 weeks from today (Feb 23) vs the Brewers. We have to be like 20-30 days away from Pitchers and Catchers.
  23. There’s one way to turn this all around and we have the power..... “MLB remaining FA, why none of them will ever sign and specifically why none of the SPs will sign with the Cubs.” -By Duke Silver
  24. I saw all owners would’ve needed to unanimously vote on the ownership thing to allow it. Guessing someone would’ve voted no as to not set a precedent for future HC hirings. Also the NFL, where owners can commit $100 million to former Hooters Spokesmen to be their head coach but can afford to build their new stadiums.... the owners would have to approve, but they also know the increased salary changes the market for coaches. So it's not like they'd all dismiss it out of hand.I think it would be a pretty clear dismissal right away. The salary may change the market a little but I think it will mostly be considered an outlier as it’s a stupid move and more than just a regular hiring, it’s a marketing/PR move for a team re-locating just as much. I think almost every owner would rather have coaches salaries go up 10-25% than start having ownership stakes be on the table for future negotiations.
