  1. Who? [tweet] [/tweet]
  2. Coomer wipes out all the pre and post-game spreads before any of the guys can get there to pack on the calories
  3. I think he’s the guy with the beard behind Lester and in front of Hendricks. Also good to see Hendricks is in good spirits and looking happy as always.
  4. Also where is the MsPaint of this we were promised?!?!??
  5. Theo talks all the time about how our young, cheap, homegrown offensive talent affords us to do a lot of different things with money too, like signing Lester, etc. Should he not do that either? This seems like a silly thing to make a big deal out of.
  6. How long ago did Darvish switch to going strictly out of the stretch? Was is just last year? Pre or post TJ? Did he ever give a reason for doing it, was it for health? Or simplifying mechanics? I wonder if there will be any consideration to have him go back to a windup with the bases empty to help add some deception and/or improve on his stuff (which so much of it is already so elite idk if there's a ton of room for that or really a concern to make it better). I get going out of the stretch should lead to more easily repeatable mechanics/arm slot and overall if it's more comfortable both on the body and mentally I'm fine with it.
  7. Coors Jr. is getting a humidor apparently. Wasn’t aware they were doing that.
  8. Yeah Lee is one of my all-time favorite Cubs, even including the current group of guys. I know his daughter had some sort of condition so maybe that keeps him busy/occupied to spend time with her that he hasn’t gotten in to any role. Or maybe he just is enjoying life, they do show him at Cubs games in the crowd it seems like once or twice a year and I think he’s been to a Cubs convention or two since he retired so maybe he does do some talking to current players here and there.
  9. Has it been posted or mentioned anywhere Darvish has the highest K/9 in MLB history?
  10. Some Monty news in the former part, which seems like the smart move in case of injury and just general conditioning for him but the latter part it appears Joe got in to the sauce early today
  11. I’m sure he was very happy and felt fortunate to sign that up to 7 year $40 million contract after being a career journeyman pitcher for like 6 years and being released/given up on by 2 teams "career journeyman" is an interesting way to describe a guy that made his major league debut at 23 and stayed with the same team for 5.5 seasons. He wasn’t given a chance above A ball by either the Mets or Yankees, journeyman might be a bit much but at the same time he was given up on pretty easily twice before he was ever given a chance. Being able to grab some very good guaranteed money was probably very valuable to him. Plus some of that money/years were arb years bought out so that’s going to keep the total value down.
  12. That's this close to Theo drunknely raving about how he can't believe how little they have to pay Quintana. yeah i'm sure jose loves hearing about how the cubs were just able to give a top 20 pitcher $126 million because he's a top 20 pitcher on a $26 million contract. I’m sure he was very happy and felt fortunate to sign that up to 7 year $40 million contract after being a career journeyman pitcher for like 6 years and being released/given up on by 2 teams
  13. Still wouldn’t mind adding Dyson for 1 year and $2-4 million to be a platoon/defensive CF’er and start LaStella or even Happ (let him work on defense at 2B/OF) in AAA. Dyson plays great defense and is a .330-.340 OBP guy vs RHP and a Almora/Dyson platoon should put up good numbers. He could be our “leadoff guy” vs RHP.
  14. Vitters is still a hitter to me, damn it!
  15. Dumping Zobrist, Monty and Grimm would clear $19 million in aav and a little less in actual paid money, fwiw. But yeah it’s not hard to see how we can fit Bryce with a reasonable small/easy trade (non-tender Grimm and let Maples, Azolay, etc. take his spot) attach Zobrist with Monty (let him start somewhere with Smyly back and hopefully a few prospects advancing his spot is filled). Or it’s not even hard to see Theo getting the green light from Ricketts to go FU mode and be able to get Bryce without having to make moves to clear salary since ~$230 in payroll isn’t crazy over the cap.
  16. “In person, you don’t look like a guy I only have to throw with 60% effort to get out.”
  17. Will help in Bryce’s first year for real cash outlays since we shed some good payroll in 2020 and 2021 (obviously some needs to be made up and arby raises). Plus don’t want to entirely incentivize him from opting out by loading first two years.
  18. Braun is owed $57 million over the next 3 years with another $15 million team option in 2021, Kemp is owed $43 million over the next 2 years (though idk if the Padres or Braves are liable to pay any of it). Braun is better but Kemp is owed less (though more aav) and you are out of Kemp’s deal sooner. I think if the Dodgers attach a decent prospect something could happen here I guess. Braun’s 10/5 rights kicked in, in the last year or two and he’s said publicly LA is the only place he’d waive his NTC to go to (he’s from Southern California). Brewers have been linked to 2B this offseason too so I could see Forsythe being part of any deal as well.
  19. Most kids. Mostly likely to play on a team with his son and grandson
  20. That appears to be the case along with him doing some appearance thing for an apparel line.
  21. Stroman is saying some cryptic things on twitter. He’s in Arizona and the Jays spring training is in Florida..... Brewers, Dodgers and Twins or Phillies (if the latter 2 have ST in Arizona) would all seem to be fits/have the prospects. He’s going to cost a ton though, since it seems like the Jays think they can contend for a WC and aren’t in a rush to move him. He’s controlled for, 4 years. [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet]
  22. I think they idea was (and still may be) to trade Santana for a pitcher given the OF surplus (he's been linked to the Indians for Salazar, Rays for Archer or Odorizzi, D'backs for Corbin off the top of my head and obviously more pieces would be involved for someone like Archer). But yeah they shouldn't have done the Cain deal and used that contract money plus other money (they are only in the mid $90s in payroll for the year) to sign Darvish even if they had to go to 6/160 or whatever to get him to go there. Sterns is playing 10 dimensional chess though or something, so don't question it. Considering Santana's 2018 projections are slightly lower than Cain, that $16M per they gave Cain seems even more odd when they could have put it towards Darvish and something else. Agree Braun/Yelich/Santana with Phillips and Broxton as 4/5 OF is plenty fine, could’ve even added Dyson, Gomez, Jackson etc and then spent the money on Darvish. Seems like that would’ve added more value/wins.

  24. TT I saw GRB already had a forum topic about Harper to the Cubs next year. I know you post there, you should go shatter their dreams on how it’s possible (likely) we will and can add him and it not diminishing much/makes it any less likely we can afford other things (specifically extending/re-signing Bryant which they think we couldn’t do).
