  1. Montgomery, even when he's like this, is still pitching around what I would have expected/hoped if the Cubs ended up needing him to replace someone, or if they went with a 6-man rotation. The problem is that the rest of the rotation is broken, absurdly lucky, terrible, and a couple of guys who are shooting to be average at best. If Yu can come back and finally remember who is and Lester somehow keeps it up, that's not so bad, but I still have to think that they need to go out and get another starter. Yeah, that sucks given how much is already tied up in who they have, but the rotation right now is set up to shoot the dick off of any real playoff chances outside of, "well, hey, ANYONE can happen to get hot just in time for the postseason!" Hendricks and Quintana ideally can and will turn it around, but they're really not showing any indications of doing so. Again, Q had been mostly quite good since May. I don’t get what you are seeing in him “not showing indications of being good.”
  2. Just because a dumb and non optimal decision has worked out doesn’t make the decision any less dumb and non-optimal
  3. Why? Until his BABIP regresses to the mean, keep him out there. You know when I play blackjack and double down and win I just keep doubling down every hand after until I bust
  4. Good news? I think it is, end of July isn’t far off.
  5. I disagree on Short. He would be benefiting from being in a weak system where the most exciting full season performance from a bat is an 18 YO A ball catcher and a AAA 2B/LF, but there's merit since the overall package is a guy who plays SS and has successfully transferred his game to AA. He did see a jump in Ks but otherwise is basically performing the same as last year with more line drives. Plus I'm not sure AA K rate for hitters is as predictive as the pre-AA, or that he finishes the year with a 28% K rate, but even with one there's still defense, patience, power, and some speed to work with all demonstrated at AA. He's shaping up to be a more skilled utility prospect than Bote and should be in the top ten at least. I feel like one of the main things to look for in stat sheet scouting on prospects is not seeing the K rates jump crazy as the level gets harder
  6. 2 ER or less in 9 of his last 13 starts, 3 ER or less in 10 of them and 4 or less in 12 of them. Q sucks *Edited to include today
  7. Boy that Quintana stinks :flythew: #WeAreGood :flythew:
  8. Happ definitely invited him over for a “drink” tonight to discuss strike zones

  10. Last year at this time Hendricks was either on the DL or throwing 75 MPH fastballs and Q had like a 5 ERA. They are trending just fine. Hendricks is most certainlly not trending fine. His velocity is back to 15/16 numbers, his command is just a bit off and he’ll figure it out. He had a good start yesterday for the most part, threw some great changes and curves and the sinker/2-seamer was just a tick off again at times but he limited hard contact. He just needs to dial in the command to not fall behind as much.
  11. I think you're both getting caught by recency bias. I'd adjust my forecast for both of them south of where it started the year, but each has a track record of getting things figured out during the year and being damn fine pitchers. Quintana had a 4.49 ERA last year when we traded for him and he was money down the stretch. Hendricks had a 4.09 ERA in the first half last year and a 2.19 in the second half. There's still more than enough time for them to get their horsefeathers together and pitch like we expect. Neither are really trending like they did last year, and I prefer they don't hinge their chances on Fluke Skywalker, the animated corpse of Yu Darvish and the hope that these two will figure it out. Last year at this time Hendricks was either on the DL or throwing 75 MPH fastballs and Q had like a 5 ERA. They are trending just fine.
  12. I’m prett sure Q and Liriano both balked on their pickoff throws but maybe balks just aren’t a rule anymore because they never seem to get called
  13. Just caught up on the game, dear lord Javy runs the bases at a 13D-Chess level like Sterns runs a front office
  14. Quintana has only given up 4 or more runs in his last 11 starts. 7 of the starts have been 2 or less runs. He’s good and fine and will get better.
  15. Now I’m just hoping Willy didn’t hurt himelsf imitating Rizzo on the bases
  16. I’d pay for Caritini’s travel expenses to Baltimore if he’s the only piece it takes for Britton
  17. I feel like they just could’ve tweeted “horsefeathers you Jesse” instead of just subtweeting him.
  18. He’s not in the dugout (probably is a call up, but please be a trade).
  19. That's exactly what Joe said post-game. He wanted to give him an extra day because of the 4 out save and recently coming off the DL. Joe said he'll be good to go tomorrow if needed. they also were very clear about the need to baby him this season. Hes going to miss games you would assume he'd pitch in.And they were careful with Wade last year too, we sucked in the first half so the opportunities weren’t as plentiful but even he didn’t go back to back or 3 in 5 days like ever. Plus Wade was a rental we could abuse a bit more, we invested a decent amount in Morrow. I’m fine with babying him a bit, especially with how the offdays fall this week. The other pen options get plenty rest and Morrow gets to double dip some rest as well.
  20. Hopefully it’s a trade
