  1. Come on, man; how long does one season's worth of a Fangraphs defensive rating get to be the sort of thing you can hang a statement like this on? He’s not great, and not as good as last year, but I believe he is a slight positive out there (especially with the arm). Also, like Squally said you get a pretty big ding for being a DH in the valuations (a negative number much larger than Schwarber at his worst). And Eloy is that bad a defender that the blanket hit on defense the DH takes may be low, he’s already the 4th worst OF’er in baseball by DRS, 10th worst by Fangraphs defensive WAR, 8th worst in UZR/150 at -15.7, 6th worst by UZR at -4.9 and they rate his arm at a -3.6 which is 2nd worst in the league for OF’ers. These are all min 180 PAs, since he’s at like 188.
  2. He looks like complete horsefeathers lately, I’m worried. I wonder if the little extra wear and tear of playing SS is affecting him a little.
  3. There’s plenty of numbers by him and historical comps to have a pretty good idea what he will be, not certain, but a good estimate. He will more than likely be a productive hitter, I’ve never said he won’t. He just won’t be all that valuable and it’s nonsense how he’s talked about as a future MVP/superstar. He’s probably going to end up being a player with similar value to Schwarbs (they’ll get there differently) as a 2-3 win guy most with maybe a peak year or two over 4 but not much over. And I have pointed out many times that Schwarber would be much more valuable in the AL. I still think it's way too early to guess/estimate what a 22 year old will turn into when he's had less than 200 PA in the ML. Schwarber would be less valuable in the AL/as a DH only because he adds positive value on defense and you’d be taking that away. It’s too early to be certain what Eloy will be but the minor league numbers give us a good idea, he’s going to do something like hit dongs, not walk a lot, K at an above average rate and probably have his BA move around from low-mid to high .200s depending on BABIP luck all while playing shitty defense and dealing with nagging injuries.
  4. He’s never going to be all that valuable, sucks he Dong’d vs us but he’s nothing special in terms of value. To repeat what has been said - he'ss 22 years old with less than 200 PA in the majors. Also, he's playing on a team that can allow him time to grow and he's playing in a league that uses the DH. It's way too early to make predictions on what kind of career he will have, but he certainly looks like he can be a productive ML hitter for quite a few years. 5. This is an incredibly dumb statement, even for you. it is? when were you less optimistic about the future since he took over? When you say future do you mean like just the immediate season? 2-3+ years from now? There's still plenty of positives going on with this team, this year to be pretty optimistic about the season. Multiple years from now I'm not going to get overly caught up on that for now since so many things can change.
  6. they're already kind of backtracking on this. sounds like he could be out for a while. Where did you see this? Maddon was on the score today and downplaying it. Said Hendricks felt a little something in LA, he was open about it and they sent him back out for his final inning then decided to pull him. They were "abundantly cautious" I believe was the term and caught it early and didn't seem too worried. In fact he said if this was September/October/Playoffs Hendricks would be pitching still, but since there's a lot of season left they want him back to 100% and think it won't take long to get there.
  7. He’s never going to be all that valuable, sucks he Dong’d vs us but he’s nothing special in terms of value. It does suck for tonight. He might be like a Carlos Lee comp, maybe a little better. Carlos Lee didn’t strike out (11% career rate) and he also stole 10+ bases a year. He only had 3 seasons of 3+ WAR, only 1 over 4 and more seasons under 2 than over 2. It takes a lot to be that valuable as a bat only, bad defense guy (especially one who Ks a decent amount and doesn’t walk).
  8. his defense has been as bad as advertised and he's struck out more than 4 times as much as hes walked. he finally hits some fingers nd it's supposed to he awe inspiring or something? Home runs are the one thing we know he will do. it's just really weird to bring him up now as if his stock has risen since he came up or something. I hope it’s not really weird to bring it up now that Eloy “The Real Deal” just went yard in the 9th to win the game. He’s never going to be all that valuable, sucks he Dong’d vs us but he’s nothing special in terms of value.
  9. I think we need a bat more than another pen arm at this point. Or at least need a more impactful bat than another impactful bullpen arm. Get Tony Watson for nothing and give up something(s) real for a bat that moves the needle.
  10. Yuck, horsefeathering figure it out soon you horsefeathering bums
  11. I looked in to Giolito’s numbers the other day, he’s absolutely taken a leap but did see like 8 of his 13 starts have been against the bum ass Royals, Indians and Jays offenses then he also recently got a start vs the injured Astros and Yankees lineups. He’s good no doubt, but he’s faced about the softest offenses he could’ve through ~15 starts. And now he gets our bum asses.
  12. A lot of the guys who are sucking right now we know mostly don’t suck and it’s just a slump, I think we can be fairly certain Cargo sucks at this point looking back on the last year+.
  13. Alright, time to pull the plug on the Cargo experiment and go trade for another bat
  14. Good horsefeathers, Cole. Score some runs now you morons
  15. Javy needs to start eating some of these balls once he fields them and not making those throws
  16. Good thing we didn’t give Vic the Bote contract
  17. If they start Adbert next week around the 25th and then again around the 1st and stick to a 6-man with Chatwood (or Monty) that would allow us to get a look at Adbert and also back off everyone a bit and give them some extra rest. If we use Adbert on the 25th/1st and go 6-man from there.... Chatwood, Darvish and Q have 3 starts until the break, Hamels and Lester 4 and then Adbert’s 2. Hendricks could get a start in there too (hopefully over Hamels or Lester to lessen their load). That’s all over about 3-4 weeks so gets everyone some extra rest up to the break then obviously the days off over the break. Then out of the break we have 1 off day a week for every week of July remaining and an off day a week every week in August except 1, so build in some rest now until the break and the schedule provides rest until September.
  18. Eloy’s stance is really annoying and odd for his body type.
  19. Barnette with his 8th straight scoreless appearance in Iowa, he doesn’t have a ton of time left on the 60 day/his rehab time before he needs to be added back to the 40-man (there’s plenty of guys to not care about losing for him so that’s not a big deal, Randy, Collins, Zagunis, Webster to name a few). Would like to see Barnette get a chance sooner than later here (phantom IL Brach or something), he impressed in spring IIRC. 9Ks, 1BB and 1H over that 8 game stretch for him.
  20. I know I'm pretty horsefeathering biased in this regard, but I can't remember a recent decision by this org that didn't have me wanting to scream at them for being cowards. Even the Kimbrel signing was such a chicken horsefeathers move based on when and how it happened. I would’ve started Adbert but my only thought is that Chatwood has pitched better this year he’s “earned” a start in their eyes, maybe keeps him a little happier/engaged or whatever and maybe the Hendricks injury really is that minor so it is only 1-2 starts so just let Chatwood take it. I don’t like it but get the reasoning to an extent. They also mentioned they might go 6-man next time through the rotation so maybe Adbert gets a start then.
  21. Fly out, ground out and K for Kimbrel in his Iowa outing. Hit 95-96. Chatwood starts Thursday and not Adbert, boooo.
