  1. Probably because he is still signed for next year so they are going to give him all of spring training and the first couple weeks next season before he gets the boot. This, provided he's willing to continue to fake an injury the rest of this month. Brach was probably going to be around next year too. He has/had a player option for like $3.5 mil I think. But glad he’s gone and we’re not letting such a small amount of money keep guys around.
  2. The sweep is imminent http://66.media.tumblr.com/cc7d869c34bb851ce773efcdca209dbd/tumblr_nwj5e2TFQU1r745vdo4_500.gif
  3. Figured this is significant enough for its own thread and would assume there will be plenty to share over the next month or so as he works his way back. https://twitter.com/carriemuskat/status/1157290408466161664?s=21
  4. You do know this is one of the dumbest things ever posted here, right? Whats dumb is how triggered Russell makes you. You would rather lose watching guys go 5-for-40 since he last started, rather than use the better player Theo gave 3M to play. You accused me of liking Trump but people like you are how he somehow got elected.
  5. You clung on till the bitter end last season so I would expect no different... But our core guys better snap out of this. This is a broken offense as of right now. There's no way around it. These guys are very slow to make adjustments. And they pretty much came through. 10 over in the second half, 100 win pace in August and ~95 win pace in September. It took a team playing 130 win pace baseball for 2 months or something dumb for them not to come through. I’m still betting on the best team coming through this year.
  6. Him pitching here is a good indication Hamels is going Saturday, I guess.
  7. I know I’m the irrational, optimistic, prognosticator around here 99% of the time. But I think we sweep the vaunted Brewers this weekend and are up 2 games or more on the Cardinals by next Sunday.
  8. A non-Cubs fan friend just pointed this out before the game. It's crazy. I look at tonight's lineup with Costellanos now added, and it looks imposing on paper. It looks pretty damn deep. But then they just don't do anything if they don't hit home runs. The 4 stars all just can’t be slumping at the same time, it’s that simple. KB, Rizzo, Javy and Willy can’t be running ~50 wRC+’s all at the same time for 2+ weeks.
  9. Cubs site still has Q tomorrow, TBD (but likely Hamels) Saturday, Yu Sunday.
  10. horsefeathering pull some combo of Javy, KB, Rizzo Castellanos and Willy. FFS, Joe.
  11. At this point save the pen for the weekend. Chatwood should’ve been in then. Outside chance he pitches well and keeps it close.
  12. It’s amazing they’ve all managed to sequence their worst slumps of the year together. That should be improbable and you know all 4 aren’t getting hot at the same time to make up for it, because of course not.
  13. Feels like we pay for mistakes more than anyone else, while the Cardinals cash in almost every time they get a break Both our runs last night were unearned and the Cardinals went 0-30 with RISP
  14. Jesus Christ, KB. Sit his ass tomorrow
  15. Yeah Castellanos is good, these are impressive PAs
  16. I know, the line up includes mainly all the guys we were salivating over 2 years ago thinking of how much better each player will be as they gain PA’s - yet, they’ve regressed. No approach at all at the plate. In 2016 a lot of these guys wore pitchers out. Not anymore. Overall offense isn’t far off from 2016. 9.7% BB rate this year vs 10.4% then, 101 vs 106 wRC+ now vs then, .328 vs .333 wOBA now vs then.
  17. Holy horsefeathers what a catch, Almora doesn’t make that. Heyward is the full time CF now.
