  1. If he could play any position(s) competantly (1B, 3B, OF, C, 2B) he would have probably forced his way onto the roster by now. I really don't think we will see him on the 25 at all this year unless we have a lot of guys go to the DL, at the same time. My gut feeling is he will be up in Sept. when rosters expand and he might get a shot at the 25 man next year.
  2. My sentiments exactly. Given how Hart's pitched this season, him blowing it was to be expected. I am almost glad that happened, because he is likely the next candidate to get called up. Hopefully Lou/Hendry see this and decide to call someone else up when they want another bullpen arm.
  3. this I agree, Wells got good results in his first start, but he gave up a lot of hits/BB and was hit fairly hard. All it's going to take is a short outing from him (less than 4 innings) and giving up a few runs and walking/giving up a lot of hits and Lou will demand he gets sent down and somehow, someway Neil Cotts will continue to be a major league pitcher.
  4. Especially considering his roller coaster ride to get here the past few weeks. First hes flown to Chicago to learn that hes going back. Then He gets up and does OK for himself. Then in comes Freel, and its apparently the end of the line for him. Then down goes Ramirez and he stays some more. Seriosuly between Scales and Freel, they need to shop Miles. How many organizations has Scales been in, anyway? 4. He spent 6 in the Pads, 1 each with the Phils and Red Sox and then us. Between him and Hoff, it just goes to show that in future off season we need to start trusting our farm system more, at least for role players rather than going out and making pointless aquisitions like Miles and Gathright. Agreed. Paying Miles $4.5 million is ridiculous when you should be able to find that kind of production in your farm system. If a guy like Scales doesn't work out, you can just send them back down and try another one. If Miles doesn't work out, you're stuck paying him. Especially when there are guys like Ray Durhan and Mark Grudzielanek available in FA still and a guy like Ryan Freel/Adam Kennedy can be had for a little more than a bag of balls and a bat.
  5. I think it was because he had some sort of minor knee procedure done this offseason, and once he would get up and start moving around/pitching he would stiffen up once he sat back down. I think he is getting better and it was something that was going to or did go away.
  6. Soriano appears to be heating up again, hopefully this is a start of one of his 2-3 weeks of terror. Which is going to be much needed when Bradley is going to miss time with the suspension and Lee/Soto not hitting right now.
  7. Johan goes 6 1/3, gives up no ER, and gets the loss, if he had a half way capable defense/offense/bullpen behind him in most of his starts he would have won like 25 games last year and would be like 6-1, 7-0 this year. Even though the Mets have a decent offense/defense they never seem to show up in games for him and we all know about their bullpen struggles last year.
  8. I really don't see anything coming out of it. First Braun squared to bunt and was over the plate, pitchers often throw up and in when players square to bunt, second the ball never hit Braun in the head (it hit his bat), and third Dempster finished up real goofy after the pitch and it is plausible that he might have slipped a little in his delivery that threw off the location of the pitch.
  9. There have been 7 Technical Fouls in the Nuggets/Mavs game tonight. The NBA is really going to have to look at cleaning up their imagine/play this offseason IMO. Oh and there is still 5 min. left
  10. Is that sarcasm or a jab? Or are you being serious?
  11. I don't know if I will enjoy anything more in life than the day Braun signs a big deal with a NY/Cal. team and all the Brewers fans go from being hey Braun is the best player ever attitude and he can't do anything wrong to Braun is a sellout he only cares about money he is a fake. I should add that I live in Wisconsin and almost all of my friends/family (my dad, grandpa, and maybe 2-3 others I know are Cubs fans) are Brewers fans and think Braun is the best players ever and best LF in baseball because he committed no errors in LF last season and they can't understand how he didn't win a GG. Most of them are in the Brewer demographic that have just discovered baseball/Brewers in the last 3 years, but think they know everything about baseball, it's not uncommon to have 2-3 encounters a week with them about the Brewers/baseball that makes me just want to give up on life. My friend the other day "huge Brewer fan" (the last 3 years) tried telling me wins and ERA are the best way to judge a pitchers value, I then brought up WHIP, ERA+, K/9, BB/9, H/9, BA against, etc. and he acted as if I was talking about a different sport. You get the idea.
  12. I agree, whenever the Yankees/Orioles play next time there better be an ambulance ready for Huff because he is getting one between the ears. One fist pump might have been alright, but he did a fist pump while staring at Joba rounding first, then he did it again running the bases and then finally he crossed home plate stopped and did one final triumphant fist pump. Aubrey Huff could literally be killed next time the Orioles and Yankees play. And I wouldn't blame whatever pitcher(s) who throw at him for any wrong doing.
  13. That and he was drafted and developed to be a bit of a slugger, but then when he reached the majors coaches said he should turn into a bunting/slapping leadoff hitter. There probably couldn't have been a worse team for him to enter the majors on than the late 90s/early 00s Cubs. There was never a chance they were ever going to fix his most glaring weakness. Yeah it didn't help that once he got to upper levels in the minors and to the majors they always seemed to be trying to change his approach at the plate, first it was to become a power hitter 3-4-5 hitter, then it was to be a 1-2 hitter and be a speedy on base guy, then it was back to a power hitter, and then again back to being more of a "lead-off" guy. I didn't realize that he was actually pretty good from 03-04 he posted a line of .298/.329/.511 13HR and 55RBI in only 347 PA in 03', and in 04' he put up .266/.320/.452 24HR 72RBI 32SB in 687 AB's. He could have been at least an acceptable platoon guy with those numbers at minimum. Did he blow out his knee in 03? I know he catches a lot of heat but those 03-04 numbers aren't terrible and he probably would have improved his OBP with more time had he been able to sustain his offensive success.
  14. I might not watch/follow the Cubs for a week if Marmol lets Kendall get a hit here, I can see it now a frickin bloop single over a infielders head.
  15. "just one of those things that could F up our season" Ugh, as soon as I saw that happen I got a knot in my stomach. This is going to suck. it reminds me a lot of 2006 after Lee got hurt, of course the team is a lot better than that one was but Yeah that's exactly what it reminded me of. I actually thought it was his wrist because that was the first thing he grabbed.
  16. Pretty apparent Fox hasn't gotten any better since last year, I wouldn't be opposed to bringing up Ascanio, Stevens, or even giving Hart one last chance.
  17. Yeah it's not like Melvin has a team of great players. Outside of Webb and Haren their rotation is crap, their bullpen is below average and their offense is young and very flukey. I could see them firing him if they felt he wasn't helping their young players develop well (Young, Upton, Scherzer, Petit, Jackson, Reynolds, etc.) But I think he has done a better than average job with the players he has had, especially with a predominately young offense full of guys who are going to have a lot of peaks and valleys. Not to mention having to put up with/be around Eric Byrnes all day everyday.
