  1. Their could be an abnormally high turnover rate with kickers this offseason. A lot of guys had really bad years and I would assume most teams will at least draft a guy or invite a guy or two into camp and try them out.
  2. Nobody did, I don't recall anyone having a ton of interest in Brees when he was a FA. I think a lot of people attributed his numbers to LT, Gates, Schottenhimer, etc. If Brees was an unrestricted FA after this season and the Saints made it known he wasn't coming back, I would think it would be the biggest story in sports before he signed somewhere. How many times in the history of this league has a QB of Brees caliber been an unrestricted FA with his previous team making no effort to resign him? he was also rehabbing a badly dislocated shoulder at the time. i wasn't sold and thought it was a risky move, too. He wasn't even considered a top 10 QB in the league at the time and he had a mixed bag of results in his time in San Diego. He wasn't a slam dunk signing and nobody probably saw him becoming the top 3 QB he is today..
  3. With the rise of Early Doucet in the playoffs along with having Breaston and Urban as #3/4 options I don't think it will be completely out of the question if the Cardinals let Boldin leave and not spend the money on him in the offseason.
  4. I have a feeling Rackers might not be brought back to AZ next year
  5. Yeah, they are tied at 49 with the record right now
  6. Leinart Time! http://cache.deadspin.com/assets/images/deadspin/2008/08/leinartbeerbong.jpg
  7. Snead wishes he got hit as hard (or soft) as Warner did there.
  8. I never put much into any pre-season lineup projections from Lou, he's always messing with the lineup during the year and moving guys around (yeah part of that is due to injuries to Soriano, Soto, and Ramirez the last 2 years) but even when everyone is healthy it's rare that he sends out the same lineup more than 4-5 days in a row.
  9. Here is an interview with Soto about the weight loss. After seeing the how much weight he has lost, this topic might deserve it's own thread. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/01/cubs-soto-talks-about-his-weight-loss.html
  10. Wow! That's very thin from where he was last year. Glad to see he put the work in and is serious about getting in the best shape possible. Link is scrolling across the top, but here it is starts showing/talking about Soto at 37ish seconds: http://click.pulse360.com/cgi-bin/clickthrough.cgi?db=context&format=vid728x250cbs&subid=90279264&topic_id=90118269&dest=http%3A%2F%2Fcbs2chicago.com%2Fvideo%2F%3Fid%3D66564%40wbbm.dayport.com%26hbx.hra%3DChicago-LAN%26hbx.cmp.c1%3Dvideo%2B90279262%26hbx.cmp.c3%3D641%26hbx.cmp.c2%3D728%2Bx%2B90%2B90279262%26hbx.cmp%3DAFC-Chi&elims=3
  11. Somebody is going to need to provide photographic evidence from the convention or when pitchers and catchers report in a few weeks of Soto as soon as they can find pictures of Soto. 30-40 lbs. is a lot of weight, but Soto needed to lose at least 20lbs. hopefully the 30-40 is true and he can get back to 08' form.
  12. And Schlereth has potential to be a good to really good MR/CL
  13. What are the legitimate teams out there that are looking to add a starting OF still? Padres- Articles had them linked to Dye, but they seemed more interested in Winn Giants- They have a glutton guys to rotate between LF/1B/3B Huff, DeRosa, Uribe, Ishikawa, Lewis, Sandoval, Bowker, Velez, Schierholtz. So Dye seems unlikely there and the seem more interested in Damon if they were to add a OF. Braves-Certainly need to add another bat and have a opening in the OF, might not have a lot of money left to spend It just doesn't seem like there is that big of a market for Dye and there aren't that many teams left that have pressing needs to add a OF, so getting Dye on the cheap end of a 1 year deal seems realistic.
  14. And you can't completely use the success argument with Brady too. True Brady has been to 4 Super Bowls and won 3, but Warner's 3 Super Bowls and 1 win isn't horrible either, especially when you consider that 2 of those Super Bowl appearances were on worst-to-first teams. and one of them being against the start of the Patriots "dynasty."
  15. I don't need an article to put into words of something that I already have nightmares about regularly.
  16. [expletive] John Grabow. If we had the money to spend, I wouldn't guarantee $10 million a year for Sheets anway. I think he wanted 10-12mil over 2 years, which Id defintiely do. Theres no way in hell hed get 10mil/year after sitting out 2009. That is correct. That was over 2 years. The sad news is that Cubs officials are saying that they can't afford it. That means their payroll situation is tighter than I thought. But it's not going to stop us from signing a veteran RH relief pitcher for 2/6-8
  17. Agreed what's the deal with Baldelli? He could be a good option for a RH 4th/5th OF and RH pinch hitter. He shouldn't command more than a 1 yr. deal and less than $2m. He's probably one of the few FA OF options that if we had a injury he wouldn't be a horrible option to have playing everyday (or close to it) for an extended period of time. The other OF I hope Jim kicks the tires on is Randy Winn, he should be cheap and shouldn't command a long term deal, and can play the corner OF spots and CF in a pinch.
  18. Muskat tweets his asking price doesn't fit our budget. Yeah well if his asking price is $10+m guaranteed he isn't going to fit into anyones [expletive] budget. Just because he is asking for something doesn't mean he will get it and it's just a ploy by his agent and a rough starting point for negotiations.
  19. What was the surgery he had last offseason? Was it on his elbow or shoulder? I remember it being a surgery guys have had before and there being two polar opposites on how those guys recovered. I could be mistaken and I think one guy who had it was Carpenter and obviously he has rebounded quite nicely with STL and the other guy is out of the league, I want to say maybe it was Jason Jennings former COL/HOU pitcher.
  20. Get it done Jim. It shouldn't take more than $7-8m guaranteed.
  21. Didn't he hold some sort of coaching/FO position with the Padres last year?
  22. I am guessing it's the latter, LaRussa knows/knew he used them and so did the Cardinal's FO they probably wanted him to come clean with this before the start of ST and the season to keep the secondary questions about stuff like this at a minimum when all the players are together and just get it out of the way now. If it helps him get into the HOF that's a nice bonus IMO.
  23. Burke could be a guy they decide to start at AA/AAA, IMO.
  24. Don't really understand this move for them, they already have DeRosa, Uribe and Ishikawa to split time between 1B/3B. Unless they want to move DeRosa to the OF full time.
