  1. Webb is the Cubs #1 priority pitching wise according to Sullivan. Which is good to hear, I like the idea of Garza for the right price but in the article it says he will cost 3 top prospects so that's a negative. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/12/webb-could-be-cubs-next-addition.html
  2. Castro SS Soto C Pena 1B Ramirez 3B Byrd CF Fukudome RF Soriano LF Dewitt 2B I would have Soriano/Byrd switch between the 5/7 spot depending on who is hitting the best or if there is a favorable matchup at a given time
  3. Would they have interest in Chirinos? What's their catching situation majors/minors? Gorzo or Wells and Chirinos maybe?
  4. I think I would give him a base deal guaranteeing 1 year for around $7m with incentives (IP, K, GS, ETC.) possibly making the deal worth something in the $15m range if they are all reached. With some sort of second year option (whether vesting based on incentives reached, or a club/mutual option).
  5. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/12/rangers-cubs-talking-multiplayer-trade.html Is a guy like Chirinos or Dolis that much?? I am not a huge fan of Davis, but don't mind the idea of getting him if all it takes is a Chirinos or Dolis type, 2nd tier prospect.
  6. Fangraphs PitchFx Data has his fastball at 89.0 in 2007 (34 starts), 88.2 in 2008 (34 starts) and 87.6 in 2009 (a 1 start sample). So basically what I said, even a little less. So it's not a big problem right now if he is only hitting 85-86 on the gun in early winter. I am getting warmer on the idea of signing him, assuming it's not a crazy deal....
  7. I know people have been saying that Webb has only been clocked in the mid-high 80's so far. My question is, when Webb was healthy and effective wasn't his max velo only in the 92-93 MPH range? He was never a guy I remember sitting in the mid-high 90s, could be wrong. So if he is already touching high 80's in the winter it's quite possible he gets back to the low 90's that he's always been at by ST/start of the season. I remember him as a guy with an average, velo wise, FB that he could spot with a good curve/slide, plus plus sinker, and a good change/split.
  8. I'm surprised more Cashner backers aren't seeing this angle. Is Cashner even pitching somewhere this winter to get stretched out? So that come ST he'd be ready to be a starter and possibly start the year in the MLB rotation instead of having to go to AAA to get stretched out to be a starter and come up later in the year.
  9. Would anyone be opposed to using Soto in a deal? It would help financially some and we could keep our blue chip guys. Maybe something like Soto and 2-3 guys like DJL, Guyer, Dolis, Mateo. Obviously we would need to find a replacement for Soto, Koye won't get it done.
  10. Most of us won't be able to find something to love as much as Ron loved the Cubs. He was a true Cub. This is terrible news. RIP Ronny and [expletive] the HOF, I am on board with never setting foot in there in my lifetime.
  11. Very reasonable for both sides IMO. Baker is a nice piece as a back up/starter a few times a week.
  12. Hudson, Pena and Webb wouldn't be a terrible off-season.
  13. Agreed, maybe something like 3/36 with a 4th year club/vesting option for $15m with like a $3-5m buyout.
  14. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/11/giants-reach-agreement-with-aubrey-huff.html I would think this sets the market for Dunn to get somewhere between the Huff and Vmart deals.
  15. http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/mlb/news/story?id=5842176 Eliminates a team that could have signed Dunn
  16. Granted it's extremely early on and it takes a while for teams to hit their stride, but Duke didn't look good at all tonight. Missed FT's down the stretch, lots of turnovers, and just looked sloppy.
  17. It all started when Vince was drafted. Fisher wanted Leinart, Bud Adams (the owner) wanted Vince - so Fisher got Vince like it or not. The reason Fisher wanted Leinart is he'd prefer a QB the style of Kerry Collins - pro style, drop back passer with a good arm and good field awareness. Very little of that describes Vince. I think Fisher has carried the grudge of having Vince forced upon him ever since. Norm Chow (OC at USC with Leinart) was also with the Titans at the time they could have drafted him, right??
  18. I wouldn't mind going after Vazquez on a 1 year deal with an option for a 2nd. But wouldn't want to get near 3 year $33m. What about Chris Young? If we aren't going to spend a lot of money and want a guy on a 1 year deal he might be a good candidate, plus he looked good last year when he go back from injury.
  19. [expletive] I think Larry was a severely under appreciated asset to this team, and most of the "common" Cubs fans (i.e. cubs.com board) are probably celebrating his decision to leave because they are idiots. Hopefully we can find a competent replacement.
  20. Maybe move the start of spring training back a week to the end of February? I know that will mean the season will start earlier and their is still a good chance that about 1/4-1/3 of the games could still be played in cold weather but better in March/April than November, IMO.
  21. They have drawn over 2.7m fans per season since 2007, over 3m twice. However their attendance will likely trend down now through the near future due to them not being competitive. Milwaukee/Wisconsin will support the Brewers when they win, but once they start losing they abandon them pretty quickly.
  22. That guy is the definition of a clown. He is, so you got Lebron the sidekick and Bosh who is along for the ride and just wants to chill. It's almost too easy to hate Miami.
  23. Was Davis ever considered a big time prospect? He doesn't look like he's a great defender either, according to BBR, and that is something Hendry is apparently looking for in whatever 1B he brings in. There really isn't much to like about him, except that he could maybe hit 30 HR in a season. He K's about once in every 3 ab's and BB in about 1 in every 14 ab's, which extrapolated over the course of a full season and receiving 500 ab's that equates to 36 BB and 167 K.
  24. Glad to see Vitters walk rate increasing a little bit (7 BB in 76 AB) in the AFL, about 1 in every 11 ab's compared to just 21 BB in 316 AB's between Day/Tenn in 2010, about 1 in 15 ab's. Granted it's a smaller sample size
