  1. Somebody will really have to step up with the loss of Chisek (64 innings), Kintzler (57 innings), Strop (41 innings), and Brach (39 innings). Everyone of those pitchers had xFIPs over 4, only Kintzler had a FIP under 4 (and we know he’s BABIP dependent/volatile), Brach and Strop has ERAs closer to 5 than 4. Other than yeah that’s a lot of innings to cover with new guys there isn’t a lot of talent to make up for. Especially if Kimbrel is 80-90% of his normal self and at least 1-2 of Ryan, Wick and Wieck prove to be decent to good again. You’re just looking for your secondary bullpen pieces at that point if that happens.
  2. Well, we signed a big money reliever last year that has a no doubt HOF resume in progress. How did that work out? There is (almost) no such thing as a sure thing in the bullpen. Anyone with a long enough record of success to give you warm and fuzzy feelings is probably about due for serious regression and/or a randomly horrible season. You're right about there being very few "sure things" when it comes to the bullpen, but taking castoffs from teams that need relief pitching too might not work out either. Like I said, hopefully we'll get lucky, but that Iowa shuttle will be busy this year. They did it last year with Ryan, Wick and Wieck. I have faith they can figure it out with another 1-3 guys this year given the quantity and more flexibility the bullpen options have vs last year (almost all have minor league options left so they can get aggressive with shuffling through).
  3. Yeah I really like Veen, being a 6’4”+ lanky lefty it was only a matter of time for the Yelich/Bellinger comp.
  4. Kuzma isn’t very good, he might even suck. He clearly can’t bring a Booker level guy back. That being said, Lebron has his ways to make the market work in mysterious ways. Especially with Rich Paul behind the curtain. Kuzma is gonna get moved for 250 cents on the dollar by the deadline.
  5. Minor league/major league contract jokes aside, we are going to have a solid bullpen this year with the way we’ve gone about building it. It may take until Memorial Day or so to sort it out, but there’s a solid bullpen in all these options to be figured out.

  7. He’s 28 and was non rendered in December, I’d assume this is a minor league deal.

  9. The pitching is still a mess and giant question mark, this is a nice going for it move but they half assed the pitching in going for it. Their pen doesn't have an elite option but should be good enough. The rotation is where they really dropped the ball. It might be fine, but they'll almost certainly be making an in-season trade. Yeah they need to add there between now and then. I still think Q is a nice fit there whether it’s before the year for LT purposes or at the deadline if we are sellers.

  11. Taylor Widener was pretty terrible last year and is pretty far down their depth chart. Nick Pivetta had like a 6+ ERA in the majors I would pay for Almora’s plane ticket and moving expenses myself if we could get Pivetta for him. I don’t see that happening, Almora has to have quite literally no value. You aren’t getting horsefeathers for him. Especially with Pillar, Dyson, Jay, Maybin, Lagarese, etc all still FA.
  12. They have two fun young major league starters: Zac Gallen and Luke Weaver. They've also got a fantastic farm, but nothing super close to the majors, so one of those two would have to be the headliner I'd think. They have like 6 SS’s or CF’ers in their fangraphs org top 10. There’s gotta be a guy or two to like in there I’d imagine. Gallen, 2 of those guys and a little something else maybe? I’m not familiar with any of their prospect names other than Seth Beer.
  13. Ketel Marte but not like this, future trade or FA In non-Bryant trade scenarios they have plenty to like, if only back of the roster or MiL depth...They're another team along with Philly that I keep thinking might be willing to trade a pitcher for Almora That pitcher either wouldn’t have arms or would be unfathomably bad

  15. I’d lean Lawrence because of the little extra athleticism and having the higher pedigree for longer and larger track record. But yeah Burrow is going to be plenty good.
  16. What a treasure

  18. Yeah I think they still do a Panik, Duffy or Scooter deal on the low side for 2B and possibly a minor league deal with Holt being the “high end” MLB deal guy. Even Zobrist coming back could be on the table I suppose, if he wants to play.
  19. Reading up, seems about as good of a prospect you can get for Kemp. He’s likely never anything but if he can stick as a COF’er maybe he can be a strong side platoon guy, he takes walks and doesn’t K at a terrible rate, seems to have a decent hit tool. Needs to add power, sounds like he could be kinda like a James Loney type bat if things break right.
  20. Yeah unless they’re replacing Kemp with Holt I don’t see this making us better this year. Kemp is better than Descalso and would’ve preferred Kemp to him as the last man on the roster to start the year.

  22. Something with a substance used for a better grip, right? With the spin rates jumping so much that’s the speculation.
