  1. Hopefully their tight assness keeps them from adding him. They’re paying $103MM to six players all over 31 years old this year. I don’t think it’s their tight-assedness that is going to keep them from trading for Arenado. What do you mean? They’ve been crying poor/saying they have little money for moves about as much as we have been the last two years and they have imposed on themselves a much smaller ceiling for payroll.

  3. From Rosenthal about Arenado being moved Hopefully he ends up on the Rangers or something and not the Cardinals.
  4. What a scoop by that bald horsefeathers [tweet] [/tweet]
  5. Yeah, that also wouldn't happen. They're not trading Nolan Arenado in a trade that brings back Jason Heyward to start with though I’m pretty certain they wouldn’t either. But it does save them $150 or so million. If the offer was Willy, Heyward, Bote, Adbert and Roederer I’m guessing they’d at least think about it. Get an immediate, long term 3B replacement with cost certainty, a top 3 catcher in baseball that won’t cost anything for 2 of the 3 years controlled, Heyward is still a platoon and playable OF’er, then they get a MLB ready pitcher and a decently regarded prospect. That seems somewhat plausible for what a deal would look like if there was even a remote chance they were talking. I don’t buy it either of it being something that has any sort of real chance of actually happening, but if Passan/Morrosi have heard things that would be my guess at it.
  6. If they got 2-3 of Adbert, Roederer, Ademan, Bote, basically any non Amaya/Nico/Davis/Marquez prospects I could see it. They’re trying to save money and it saves them money but also keeps them from having to entirely blow horsefeathers up.
  7. Yeah the Rockies/Arenado and Bryant swap out seems so far out there. Like you said, they’re notoriously hard to deal with and also dumb. It takes like 5-6 moves likely to make it all work if getting under the LT is still a must do this offseason but also still, presumably, building out a team that can win if you’re taking on Arenado at age 28/29 it would be dumb to do that then punt a year. It’s too bad they can’t (or won’t) say horsefeathers it and just do like Willy, Heyward and some prospects for Arenado and throw KB in RF and sign Russell Martin. That offense would horsefeathers.
  8. So in the event of a Willy trade that leaves Russell Martin as the only remotely decent FA catcher left? Or am I forgetting someone?
  9. So I came up for season tickets this year and I got an email today with a link to a page with info about them. On that page they have a video and picture of Bryant. Rizzo is featured the most prominently but the only other two guys are KB and Javy. So maybe it means nothing but maybe it means something and they’re keeping him if he’s in the 2020 promo and marketing material stuff.
  10. Kemp, Descalso, Almora and this horsefeathers are all going to be on the opening day roster, aren’t they?
  11. Thames signed with the Nats, could do some dot connecting they’re out on Donaldson now. Asdrubal, Starlin, Kieboom and Howie can cover 2B/3B with Howie and Thames at 1B. Castellanos to the Rangers may happen too, so Donaldson to the Braves seems likely.
  12. how has not locking up their young stars hurt the cubs? the cubs problems have nothing to do with that. I thought that was bizarre criticism of things too. It makes sense though if you buy my theory that Kaplan made up the sources here and these are just his words. Since the White Sox have done the extensions with their young guys and since everything they do now is so great and smart and better than the Cubs it’s worth throwing that in to criticize the Cubs by that bald doofus to drive this stupid Cubs-WS discourse and comparisons that have been happening since last year.
  13. Yeah he’s largely been the same player every year since then. I get being worried about the injuries but he isn’t really a different player now vs 2016. Maybe he’s lost a little speed. 2015-2016: .285/.378/.524 .385 wOBA, 143 wRC+, .240 ISO, 11% BB, 26% K 2017-2019: .284/.390/.511 .382 wOBA, 147 wRC+, .227 ISO, 12% BB, 21% K You can debate that on the offensive side, but his defense has certainly declined and the metrics bear that out. Yeah that’s the one thing, idk if he’s as bad as he was last year though. He’s probably not -7 DRS bad at 3B, he still rated out pretty neutral in the OF. He probably is in a decline overall defensively and he’s probably never going to rate elite, maybe embracing some more shifting (Ross has hinted he’s gonna shift more, IIRC) could help at least get him back between -2 and +2 or so on the DRS spectrum at 3B and maintain being around 0 in the OF. Also have to wonder how much the knee affected the poor defensive numbers. If he can stay healthy maybe they improve just because of that. Obviously it’s a red flag maybe he’s slowing athletically/health wise and there’s just gonna always be something physically that can hold him back but the knee last year could’ve caused the numbers to be worse than his true talent.

  15. I wouldn’t be shocked if Kaplan’s “anonymous executive/former GM” “source” is just Kaplan making horsefeathers up but putting an “anonymous” source on it to sound more authoritative. The lines and quotes from his “source” are similar to his takes on KB being overrated and what not that he always has, also randomly has a Gleyber comment and some White Sox ball washing which are things he brings up a lot and knows ruffles feathers/drives debate.
  16. Bills got done dirty
  17. I’m glad we avoided him at what he went for. He faded badly last year and is 35/36. I know he’s been remarkably consistent, but he’s gone 60+ innings 4 of the last 5 years (including playoff IP) and hit 70+ in a few of them. Seems like a trap we’ve fallen in to with with RP the last few years then get stuck with them when they suck (Brach, Carl, Kintzler and Wislon, granted they gave us a good year too, etc).
  18. Boy Asdrubal at $2.5 million certainty would’ve been a nice addition over the horsefeathers back end of the 26-man (Descalso, Kemp) or been a decent add to allow to start Nico in AAA. Also if all he got was $2.5 mil I can’t see Holt getting more than say $4 million or so. Figure it out, idiots.
  19. Because they’re using their top IF prospect to get more certainty in a 4-5+ win KB and still need to backfill depth on the infield. I think it’s some reasonable dot connecting.
  20. Good point in Kieboom, there could be some dot connecting there. They also re-signed Howie. So him and Starlin are their backup/2B options.
