  1. Cubs finished 2011 71-91. Some "experts" seem to be placing the Cubs at the bottom of the league, hinting that they may lose 100 games this year. I think this is ridiculous but would like to see where NSBB thinks they'll fall and why. If anybody can make a good WAR argument that would be great. Make whatever assumptions you want while choosing. i.e. "I think the Cubs will trade Garza before the season starts for prospects that will not make any impact on the club this season. Therefore, I am going to say they will win X number of games." In other words, this is not necessarily a "as it stands now" poll. I don't intend for this to replace any yearly competitions that NSBB puts on, but just want to start a discussion on how bad/good you think the Cubs will be this year.
  2. Yeah, and MLB Network Radio says the Cubs will lose 95-100 games. Cubs will not be contenders this year, but this is just insane. Of course, they also said there are 6 teams in the AL that will win 95-100 games and therefore about 6 AL teams that will lose 95-100 games. Leaving only 2 or 3 teams to finish somewhere between 67-95 wins.
  3. There are so many bad calls throughout the course of any NCAA Basketball game. For a borderline call to get this much attention is ridiculous. If this happened at any other point in the game nobody would say anything. The "analyst" who are pointing this play out are showing their biases clearly. The reason kU stretched their lead to 8 was because of Ratliffe's foul situation which was aided by two HORRIBLE foul calls against him. It goes both ways.
  4. I have nothing to add other than I really like this.
  5. I think I'm right on par with you. This is the exact dilemma that parents face and the reason my youngest brother is playing on a travel team instead of the city league. I completely understand your position and would definitely make the same decision in that situation. People like you are not the problem. Not that you needed my approval...

  7. Got a call from the Cubs. In case anybody else is wondering/interested they have just the bleacher and bleacher combo packs. They also have Upper Deck Box OF.
  8. Anybody go today? My appointment was at 12:30, but I checked the box to have a Cubs rep choose seats for me. I'm just wondering if anybody had an appointment time at or after 12:30 and got tickets.
  9. Even middle class kids in rural areas with easy access to ballfields whose parents either can't or won't spend the time and money on them developing their baseball skills are at a disadvantage. The municipal leagues are a joke because all of the serious kids (read: their parents think they're serious) are playing travel ball. Traveling costs literally thousands of dollars a year per kid. Unless their old man can teach them the game (and most of them can't, even if they think they can), these kids are at a huge disadvantage by the time they begin trying out for high school. This isn't a knock on parents who put their kids in travel ball. It's the only chance those kids have. But, it does suck how it has changed the climate of youth baseball. I'm 23. There was not a travel team in my area. Everybody played Little League until they were old enough for high school and Legion. It is totally different now with my younger brothers. My parents are dishing out money like crazy on my 11-year-old brother. I'm glad they can afford it now, because there is no way they could have done it when my brother and I (15 months apart) were younger. Trying to get us to all of our games, on two different teams, and paying for all of those hotel rooms would have been a nightmare. The only reason they're willing to do it for my 11-year-old brother is because the 10-year-old Little League is like watching T-ball when I was a kid.
  10. boy that seems kind of dumb considering the horned toads are right next door That's not the only reason it's dumb.
  11. Must suck to be a Jets fan.
  12. Giants shouldn't even be in the playoffs. See: New York Giants @ Arizona Cardinals October 2, 2011.
  13. I want to see DeWitt get another shot. He lost his starting position because of a bad few weeks in ST. (Thanks Quade). The guy has never really been given a chance to play fulltime as a 2B. Full disclosure: DeWitt is a local hero that I played against in HS...
  14. i want that guy to play for my team. if the cubs sign cespedes and he and jackson and rizzo all start the season at aaa, i'm going to be in des moines four nights a week. you can sleep in my garage. I'll pick you guys up on my way to the park. I was thinking about this today. Des Moines is 3 hours from here.
  15. That's really nothing new, the report they cite to make that statement was posted a page or two back. Whoops. Been too enamored with the Packers of late to pay real close attention.
  16. MLBTradeRumors: Cubs are leading suitors for Cespedes.
  17. I'm confused. You're a Giants fan?

  19. Packers played horribly today. I was a lot more angry than I thought I would be if they lost, but in retrospect, it's the first time they've lost by more than 7 since November 2009. The team is, and has been, one of the best in the game for a long period of time. They will be fine next year. This loss reminds me of the 2008 Cubs way too much, and that really sucks. Too bad the 07 Cubs didn't win the WS...
  20. Packers were going to score that drive...
  21. Yes, because the great Bears fans wouldn't be doing the same thing after a successful hail mary. Well the Bears didn't do that, so we wouldn't know. You know who just did though? The Packers. Yes. They did. I think he meant they didn't go 15-1 and aren't defending Super Bowl Champions. As a side note, they're also not defending NFC Champions because there was this game played last January where the Bears lost. It's called the NFC Championship. Or he could have just forgotten the hail mary TD pass at halftime that the Bears allowed earlier this season. Hard to tell.
  22. Pretty sure any other fanbase would be doing the exact same thing.
  23. Unacceptable.
  24. We're running the ball way too much in the first place. 7 called runs to 21 called passes. 3-1 sounds about right. The problems are 4 dropped passes, 1 bad throw to a wide open receiver, and 1 fumble.
