  1. My God, everytime I watch him bat I swear it's an instant replay of the last AB. The only difference is sometimes he grounds out to the pitcher instead of 2B. Especially if there is a guy on first. It makes the DP that much easier.
  2. I can't blame Hendry this year. Two of his top 3 starters haven't even pitched yet, and we don't even know if/when they will. So it's not really a 100 million dollar team nor a very talented one, despite the names we control. This year is just a continuing downward spiral from the previous two. Hendry resigned Neifi for two years. Signed Rusch for two years. He traded for Bynum? He traded for Hairston whom, I'd never have thought possible, has sunk below Neifi in the talent department. He was trying his hardest to trade Todd Walker (imagine this team without Walker...shudder). Jones, Pierre... Imagine this team if he would have seriously went after Tejada and Beltran in the free agent market after the 03 and 04 season. Yes, Beltran had adown year last year but he's looking pretty good lately for the Mets.
  3. I just wonder if Hendry ever looks at himself in the mirror and says, "I don't have a freaking clue as to how to assemble a major league roster"? Hendry gets credit for actually 3 decent deals, Lee, Aram, and dumping Hundley on the Dodgers. I know for a fact he didn't initiate the Lee deal and I doubt he did the Aram and Hundley deals. The Nomar deal looked bad with Nomar but we did get Murton so I'll give him props for that. $100 million dollar payroll for this team certainly won't look good on Jim's resume. Not that he needs a resume!
  4. Yet Dusty expressed desire for some speed on the basepaths, so should we fault our GM for trying to help a manager get talent he requires? Shouldn't that GM get someone with speed that can actually get on base? I mean I know it's nice the guy can run a 4 - 40 but what good does it do when the only place they go is from the batters box back to the dugout?
  5. The real problem is having people named Neifi, Bynum, Hairston, Jones, Mabry, and Rusch on the roster. With names like that populating our roster the payroll should be somewhere around $70 million...not $100 million. I can't even blame Dusty for playing Bynum and Perez. He has, afterall, always said he plays everyone on the roster. Does Hendry not know this. Everyone Hendry puts on the roster is going to get playing time So, playing on the original title of this thread: Hendry or Ed Lynch? :D
  6. The Cubs will score 4 runs in the first inning tonight.
  7. Well if the Cubs actually score a run again they should stop the game and have a little ceremony out by homeplate. :?
  8. No, it's not true. I was watching the whole season. The Cardinals had plans on winning the division and they were favored to do so early in the year. The Cubs and Cardinals were both so focused on each other that by the time the Mets overtook both of them it was too late. During the 1969 season Harry Caray would sing "The Cardinals are coming ho ho ha ha hee hee" to taunt Cubs fans on radio broadcasts.
  9. Congratulations on making the first original cubs+pitcher+injury joke in about 2 years here. Next time I'll check with you to see if it's been done before.
  10. Great...a pitcher that can go on the DL for the Cubs with TWO sore arms.
  11. Dear Lord, Please take Dusty, Larry, Gene, Gary and Chris away...far, far away. Amen
  12. That's the point. I don't think LaRussa thought Maddux was scuffing the ball either. He was trying some silly little league poor sportsmanship stuff. It looked to me a little like the ump gave Maddux a little larger strike zone on the next two pitches too. And Maddux continuted to pound on them like a rented mule. LaRussa is the classic example of loving to dish it out but can't take it if someone does the same thing to him. And his pitching coach is even worse.
  13. I think LaRussa learned long ago that the squeaky wheel gets the most grease and personally I'd like to see Baker going out and doing a little more disagreeing with the umpires. That can and does lead to getting a close call later in the game...unless you tick them off too bad in the first argument. It's called "playing the umpires" and LaRussa is really good at it. As far as LaRussa and the Cardinals accusing Maddux of cheating, I don't believe they really believe he was cheating. Watching the St. Louis news at 10 pm last night LaRussa and the Cardinals interviewed were nothing but complementary of Maddux domination of them. LaRussa even went so far as to say the game was never a "contest". No I still don't like the smug b*****d but I didn't hear him complaining post game that Maddux was cheating.
  14. Oh...I would have no problem keeping Pierre and getting rid of Jones. Even if Pierre doesn't get back to his pre 2005 he's got more upside than Jones.
  15. I like Pierre...but I like Pie better. :D Seriously I think the Cubs and Pierre have taken the best approach. The Cubs don't want to invest prematurely with Pie on the horizon and Pierre doesn't want to sign while his value is at it's lowest after the year he had last year. And I don't think he's been terrible. He's been far from stellar but someone that is terrible is someone that doesn't contribute...and he has contributed quite a bit to a good percentage of the Cubs wins.
  16. St. Louis radio was mentioning today that he reportedly is interested in going to Milwaukee where his brother is the pitching coach...if he leaves the Cubs AND if he thinks Milwaukee has a chance to win.
  17. Pact with the devil? Not really, but Dusty was really nice and classy to me this weekend. I feel I owe him that much. :D Just joking...that's cool.
  18. Pact with the devil?
  19. Brenly on Dempster: He goes about his business like an assassin. :)
  20. Or how many times did they ask to see the ball, rather? Barrett sarcastically said they asked to see the ball 30 times. :D
  21. Barrett on the post game: They might as well just go ahead and accuse us of cheating instead of asking to see the ball 30 times. :D
  22. He's still got his consecutive save streak which is MUCH more important than a scoreless streak. Agreed.
  23. Nice play Mabry. I'm not sad the scoreless streak is over. Takes a distraction away from him. He can now start a new streak.
