  1. Floyd hit 4th, Ramirez was dropped to 5th, and Blanco caught (news mainly since he normally starts only when Zambrano pitches). Thank You, just wanted to know so how that work out then? It was great. We bounced back from playing "our worst game of the year" and played even worse. It was magical...
  2. Hitting with RISP is not a good measure for this team because you can't really say they are in scoring position unless they are standing on 3rd base. Getting a single with a man on 2nd raises that stat but it sure doesn't result in a RBI all that often. I've never, ever seen a team not score from 2nd on a clean single as much as this team does it.
  3. [wishful thinking]Maybe that means Pie is coming back up to play every day.[/wishful thinking]My thinking is we'll see a lot more of Pagan but I like your scenario better. We've literally sucked beyond belief without Pie so I have no problem with us maybe still sucking with Pie. It's possible a player like him could come up and ignite things if he plays most days and leads off. (I'm not giving up on moving Sorianio down in the order! )
  4. Someone (I think it may have been biittner77) suggested the idea of the rally goat a few years ago. Maybe that needs to come back. :D I agree. We need to embrace the goat, not shun it.
  5. LOL...Lou, you really should hit the comedy club circuit.
  6. You better learn to love him because he's about to become the everyday rightfielder...or so it sounds. Piniella vows set lineup even if it's 'out of a hat'
  7. Certainly we would keep Lee, Ramirez, Soriano, and Barrett. That's would be a good balance of Vets and Youngsters. Not sure why Barrett is a certain keeper. He's a free agent, and in my opinion, the Cubs got the most out of him they could expect, and should let him go, if not trade him this summer. Agree with that. He is horrible defensively and dumber than a box of rocks on the basepaths. I'd like to see him traded and maybe get a prospect for him.
  8. Somewhere, someone has convinced some of these guys that if you take the first pitch no matter where it is thrown you are being patient. The problem with that though is if you get into a quick hole you can't be as selective. You have to swing at any pitch that is close once you have two strikes. The secret is to only swing at strikes. Your chances rise greatly when you do that. The Cubs as a team seem to swing at too many balls and let too many strikes go by.
  9. I hope another NL team doesn't pick him up. I'm sure he could shut out the Cubs if given the chance.
  10. I think the offense is the biggest problem. A consistant offense will usually hide most bullpen woes or at least make them less critical. All bullpens allow runs. It just so happens that their teams offenses scores runs while ours is usually one-shot and out. Good night Irene. It's been this way since the beginning of the Don Baylor era. The pen has blown games when the Cubs have scored a lot of runs, as well as when they haven't. With all due respect, the pen is far more to blame than the offense. I'm not sying the bullpen is perfect. Some consistant offense though can overcome some bullpen deficiencies. With our offense our bullpen will have to carry an ERA of 0.00 to be effective.
  11. Why is it so diffucult for so many folks to understand that *both* of the following can be true, simultaneously: * Josh Hancock was incredibly stupid, foolish, reckless, and blameworthy; * Other people besides Josh Hancock contributed to the accident, and might bear a portion of the blame. Why are these concepts viewed as mutually exclusive? They're not. I think a lot of people just don't believe point number two is true. he said that they both could be true. if point number two isn't true, then hancock will lose. but that determination has to be made by a judge/jury, not message board majority. And that is what is going to happen. People are just voicing their opinion. I don't think anyone believes that the message board majority is going to overrule the legal system here. Truste me, I know our legal system is the best on the planet and without it the government/police could run amuck. I just think a lot of people were flabbergasted that Hancock's father filed the lawsuit given what everyone had heard about it. I've got no problem with it going to court. I still think they will lose on all counts. Should be interesting.

  13. Cause the Brew crew sucks also. This division is who can suck the least come Aug and Sept because nobody is pulling away with this thing. I find it hard to believe the Cubs will suck worse than 5 other teams. Some team will step forward. Unless someone can fix our famine or famine worse one-shot offense it won't be this team.

  15. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/gameday_recap.jsp?ymd=20070526&content_id=1987957&vkey=recap&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc Stupid just stupid. Barret is not a very bright baseball guy. so...did he see the sign or did he go on his own? he's saying both. He was saying he saw the sign from the catcher. (So he was positive another breaking ball was coming.) ](*,) Barrett should not be attempting to steal third base in any game, let alone a close one. Yeah, attempting to steal 3rd base with two outs is stupid even if the pitchers walks back to 2nd base and tells Barrett he's going to throw a changeup in the dirt.
  16. There have been a few (non-knuckleballers) pitchers that threw mostly in the 70-80 mph range that had success. John Tudor to name one. I have my doubts that Miller will though so he should be given his release so I expect the Cubs to call him up and put him in the rotation any day now.
  17. Yeah but Barrett played ultimately the dumbest game I've ever seen a major leaguer play. He deserves to be criticized for his awful game today. But that move to bring in Eyre was equally as dumb. Not only dumb but Grady Little played him as a fool. After letting Wuertz warm up, Grady inserted the LH PH. Not to be outdone Lou showed his smarts by bringing in the LHP. Grady Little is a genius. (or not)
  18. Hey Len and Bob. Shut the hell up. It doesn't matter whether it was a HBP or a wild pitch. We lose either way.
  19. Seriously though, why not leave Guzman in to walk Furcal and then bring Marmol in? DP home to first and then a K and we're out of the inning. See how simple that would have been?
  20. Baserunning blunder by the Dodgers and it works out perfectly for them. Only the Cubs. Game over.
  21. Come on Lou. Bring Eyre back in. The Dodgers won't object.
  22. Sweet...leadoff walk. The DP is setup now.
