  1. I can't figure out if this was the most clumsy PR ploy ever or a sincere belief that he would say yes. My guess is it was the result of a game of truth or dare between owner Stan Kroenke and GM Les Snead. Lot's of alcohol was involved.
  2. This is the play that just boggled my mind. How is that hold is not called? http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g109/scarey23/redskinsholding.png
  3. In the 05 game that I posted, both ramsey and brunell played. I think the 03 game was one of those games at the end of the season when Rex started and looked pretty good and got everyone excited. That was in fact the game, and you are right about the Grossman game in '03. I believe he ended up breaking a finger at the end of the game and the season ended with Kordell at QB.
  4. Reminds me of every Redskins game of late. They are never anything special but a bad fit for Bears. RGIII could rack up a ton of fantasy points. Oh god the 'Skins. I remember the first game Kyle Orton started, he almost pulled it out, but then I believe Fred Miller and company had 3 false starts in a row, led to an insane 3rd and 35 or something, and they lost to Washington without giving up a touchdown. Then you had that horrible awful, still killing me, Todd Collins game. You can't lose that game. Some part of me thinks the reason Collins was picked up as a back up was because of this game. Doubly awful. And the 2010 game. No excuses to lose that one. Donovan McNabb was terrible, the Bears were running up and down the field, and Cutler just had to throw the most inconvenient interceptions ever. I believe Hester also had a game winning kick off return waved off. So Washington has been the source of some really, really, really painful losses recently. Also, change the name already, god. Yeah I agree, the last few times we played them I thought we should win going into the game and lost all 3 in really annoying frustrating ways. The last time I remember beating them, Urlacher got a TD reception on a fake FG. Didn't the Bears win the game where Briggs clothes-lined Patrick Ramsey and knocked him out of the game?
  5. Wow, I remember liking Nic Jackson a lot, but didn't realize he was recognized as a top 100 guy.
  6. Stop it. You are going to make Robbie Hummel cry and when Robbie Hummel cries, Da Bum eats more chili and from that point you are just asking for trouble from a butterfly effect of bad gas. Can we stop having DaBum as the representative Purdue fan? Nobody liked him, including other Purdue fans, and he's been gone for what... 3 years now? You have a plethora of other Purdue fans that currently post here to pick from.
  7. I have felt this would be a great way to play this team since the playoff run in 2011. At the time, the bench mob had a tough time getting consistent offense. With how awesome a defender Asik was, I thought it made a lot of sense to put Boozer out there to score at will on opposing team's bench players and let Asik cover up his defensive short comings. I always wondered if it was a matter of keeping Boozer happy by starting him.
  8. The first time in forever that I am actually looking forward to a Purdue football game (Etling's first start) and they don't have one this week...
  9. No way he's forcing kids out with 2 open scholarships this year and 3 for 14' / 15'. Marcius moved on because he wants to start somewhere to try to prove himself for a playing career in Europe. Hale never added the weight and wasn't physical enough to be a B1G player. Lawson was a freak athlete but fouled everything that moved and had no polish on the offensive end. Anthony Johnson, I don't know what happened there, he was getting minutes but never developed accuracy on his outside shooting. He had mental lapses and would just drive to the hoop and throw up tear drop shots. He was probably tired of Painter screaming at him for not making adjustments. AJ claims he moved to be closer to his sick grandma. 2009 - 2011 were abysmal recruiting years with the exceptions of DJ Byrd who was a really good role player and Terone Johnson who is a senior captain this year. All that being said, Painter (depending on the recruiting service) brought in 4 4-star players in 2012 and 3 more this year. He's got more 4 star players on the roster this year than ever before. He's also got a solid class of guys that fit his system in 2014. He's obviously trying to land a 5 star player but if he can continue to land 4 stars regularly they'll be fine. Purdue has never been a 5 star player school. He just has to avoid terrible stretches like 2009-2011. I never expected him to land 5 star talent, at least until he made a Final Four. But I agree, he doesn't need a top tier talent. He needs near top tier talent that will buy into his system. He proved that with the big three. I was looking forward to this because of the high upside freshman and the depth. I guess there's still the high upside freshman.
  10. I've been out of the loop on Purdue basketball stuff for awhile, but who are the other 3? Marcius to DePaul, Lawson to Appalachian State, Anthony Johnson to Northern Illinois I didn't even know about Lawson. Jay Simpson should be able to jump into his spot, but it sucks to see Lawson out. I liked Hale too. I've always been a big fan of Painter's, but at what point to you start to question what's going on. I would rather not believe that Painter is forcing players out, but that is a lot of players transfering.
  11. Which is exactly why I'm ok with the current front office concentrating on building the farm system and not bogging down payroll with bad contracts exclusively for mediocre short term results (instead of bad results). It's hard for me to see it any other way.
  12. Swerving around a raccoon is just as stupid as well. Have you thought of that? Plus do we know if there's other drivers/witnesses that saw the accident? If so, he can't say something when a witness can disprove it easily enough. That'll look bad. He told the truth and that's the right thing to do. It was stupid, but like Soul said, at least he wasn't breaking any laws (drinking and driving). Not really. Not even close. Swerving to avoid an animal is completely reactionary. If you're trying to grab a pizza, you are making a conscious decision to put your personal health and vehicle at risk over a $12 pizza. This is the dumbest argument ever by the way. But please, keep trying to convince me that trying to grab a pizza is equatable to dodging a moving object in the road. Also, please keep telling us of the merit of the football player that told the truth. So is swerving to avoid an animal like a raccoon. Both are reactionary moves. It's a raccoon... not a human being (get in huge trouble) or an animal like a deer (where it can REALLY do damage to your vehicle and health) or even another vehicle. Just run it over. I see raccoon as birds, squirrels, possums, etc. What's the worst thing that could happen if you hit one? Maybe a good size dent or crack on your front bumper or possibly a blown/flat tire? Most of the time it runs away before you get to it or doesn't even get hit. Anyway it doesn't matter on that part. Seriously... Why lie when you didn't break any law? What's the point here? He wasn't going to get in trouble in any way so tell the truth even if it does make you look like a stupid idiot and they laugh at you. First of all, I don't care that the animal doesn't do any damage to my car or not. I don't care if it lives or not. My brain sees something that's not supposed to be there and I react. Maybe I'm a dunce. Maybe you've got super fast processing. Or maybe, just maybe, I react like most humans do. Second, it's not about doing something against the law or not. If I can avoid looking like an idiot, I do. Again, I'm willing to bet most people do the same too. And I'm done with this.
  13. Why would you even admit to that? Why not just say a raccoon darted in front of you? How about because that would be an unnecessary lie? Provided this is the truth, it's really not that bad an explanation. Stupid, but at least it's not him going out and getting wasted and then driving. All I'm saying is if I was stupid enough to crash my car while reaching for a pizza, I would lie about it regardless of if I was a famous athlete or not. Why a person wouldn't lie... I don't understand. Swerving around a raccoon is just as stupid as well. Have you thought of that? Plus do we know if there's other drivers/witnesses that saw the accident? If so, he can't say something when a witness can disprove it easily enough. That'll look bad. He told the truth and that's the right thing to do. 16. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-09-19/sports/ct-spt-0920-haugh-bears-chicago-20130920_1_jay-cutler-relaxed-cutler-bears-qb Yeah, that is kind of a big thing. It's weird how casually he wrote about it. This causes the "Jay didn't text me goodbye" thing from Urlacher to make more sense than it did (not that it didn't make any sense before).
  17. He played in the game, and therefore by definition he was a factor, I guess. But he's not doing anything special and he's not flying around making plays like he has in the past. Yeah he is. Made a big stop in the backfield vs Cincinnati. The play Right after he got ran over by Ponder he stopped him short of the 1st down (they got it anyway on 4th down). Pass deflections. They aren't as prevalent as they used to be, but its been 2 games. You can tell he was dogging it in preseason, so I hope he is just still trying to turn it up. But he's still been good enough. Not great like he's been in the past, though. That was Anderson on the Ponder stop... at least the one on the sidelines. I can't remember what the preceding play to the other 4th down conversion was.
  18. http://www.windycitygridiron.com/2013/9/16/4734702/bears-vs-vikings-notes-scribbles-and-things-jotted-down I'm not sure I understand this part of it. The worst case scenario would have been the Bears getting the ball closer to the goal line if a Viking would have grabbed it prior to entering the endzone?
  19. Yeah, Detroit at Arizona should be interesting that way. I think he was referring to Jaguars at Raiders... or were you making a joke? Or do you think those two teams will be that bad?
  20. I expect him to not be a Bear for very long for a variety of reasons. If we can wind up with 4 seasons of him I'll chalk it up as a win. I think (maybe wishful thinking) that Marshall has his issues worked out though. The guy has acknowledged his personal issues and is taking care of them. No red flags for quite some time now. I could see him becoming expendable if Jeffrey becomes a similar player both in ability and play style. It's plain to see Jeffery is modeling his game after Marshall, which makes sense given his size. He just has to prove he can dominate in the same way as Marshall.
  21. All true, and I love them. That's fine. I sort of get why. I used to care. I get my fix with DVOA now (and Aikman rankings, whenever I manage to find wherever the hell those are at). I think you're misunderstanding how people are using power rankings here. I think you'll find that most (I will at least) will agree with you that DVOA is an awesome tool to evaluate performance of a team. That's how I use it, that's how most informed NFL fans use it. Power rankings on the other hand is a way to mock the generalized opinions of so-called NFL experts and pointing out why they are so wrong. What's weird is, there's no real disagreement here. Just you criticizing those that dare bring up power rankings in any context and me taking offense to that.
  22. I have? Power rankings are incredibly stupid and totally subjective and a waste of time to argue about (and almost always the laziest journalism you'll ever find). I innocently poked fun at the people who care about them. I'm not mad. But you just got really defensive about it for some reason. I just find it hypocritical to criticize or "poke fun" at people that are talking about power rankings while they are mocking the opinion of a sports writer. Hypocritical behavior annoys me so I thought I'd call you out on it in the hopes that you would stop. That's all.
  23. Why is it so weird that people talk about how they disagree with power rankings? You just expressed how you disapprove of a Dukes comment. Disagreeing with power rankings is hardly different. I find it very strange that you feel you are so above it. Power rankings are nothing more than an opinion by a sports writer. A large amount of material on a message board such as this one is discussion of sports writer's opinions, and you are in fact a contributor. I have no idea why you're so worked up about this, but what does the bold even mean? I was referring to this: I could just as easily ask you why you're so worked up about "power ranking obsessed weirdos". "Worked up" would actually be more applicable to you seeing as you've ranted on this subject before.

  25. I was pretty bummed about the Conway injury. I was really looking forward to what the dude could do with a full season of minor league ball. Whitenack is in that category as well. I know he didn't pitch well last year, but he was still kind of in that readjustment-from-coming-back period last year. I had huge and probably overblown expectations for Candelario. In the end, he did decent for his age. I thought he would be able to move through the system at a similar pace as Baez has. Speaking of, Baez is one of my surprises. I would have never dared dream of him having as good as season as he's had. I was pretty happy with Shawon Dunston as well. My long shot is John Andreoli.
