  1. I have not seen it expressed clearly in this thread yet. So maybe I'm a dumb dumb, but maybe you can tell me again what benefit it is to have Rose play tomorrow as opposed to two weeks from now? I can understand if ownership/coaching/players/fans felt that with a healthy and up-to-speed Rose could help the Bulls make a deep playoff run. Yes, in that case get him on the floor and get him used to playing at NBA game speed. That's not the case though, so I'm not worried. I'm not trying to debate whether what the doctors and trainers said is true or not either. I'm just trying to pull the reigns a little bit on this sentiment that he absolutely must play as soon as possible because the doctors said so. It would be another thing if I said he shouldn't play. Look, I have no problem with anyone having the opinion that Rose should play and that it's silly that he's not. I only have a problem with the idea that it's a bad thing that he's not playing.
  2. Maybe you're misunderstanding my clearly stated point. This isn't a debate on whether knee ligament surgeries are successful or not. Adrian Peterson has nothing to do with it. My point was that doctors aren't always 100% right. You can deny the obvious and just pass Hummel's re injury as a coincidence. That's fine. The fact remains modern medicine isn't as much as an exact science as you seem to think. And damn it, I'm not even trying to argue that Rose shouldn't come back to play. I just don't understand the demand for him to come back. There's absolutely no benefit to him playing or not playing right now.
  3. Why? I would say it's safe to say that if he injured the same exact ligament that he just had surgery on, there's a high likelihood of it having something to do with the original injury.
  4. I'm writing Derrick a prescription for 15 regular season games and another 5 game playoff loss. That's what Bernstein is making it out to be. He's repeatedly said that the doctors said the next step in his therapy is to play NBA games. That's different than clearing him to play.
  5. Well, he eventually has to move to the next level of his rehab process, yes. It just doesn't have to be now. Is it silly for him not to? Maybe. But unless there's some potential upside, why push him to do it right now? There's no reason to do so. I wasn't saying "literally game-changing" just for kicks; this is something that he needs to adjust to and potentially figure out how to be a different player than he was before (which impacts the players around him and how his coaches approach him). That's a HUGE reason for him to play sooner rather than later. And I'd flip around your post and say there's no reason for him not to play right now. There's absolutely no upside to him not playing whereas there's pretty huge reasons to get him back ASAP. There's not really a reason for him not to play either, you're right. I just don't understand why anyone would be so adamant one way or another. I'm not going to say they are the same exact thing btw, but doctors medically cleared Robbie Hummel when he came back to practice after a torn ACL and he retore it. That's not a reason for Rose not to play, but it goes to show you that doctors aren't 100% right. Also, has any doctor actually ordered Rose to play NBA games? Or was he just cleared to play?

  7. There really is no need to have him out there yet to play live ball. Yes, he will eventually have to play again. Does it need to be right at this instant? No. I've listened to Bernstein for the last week argue, and shout, and plead that Rose NEEDS to get back on the court. I think the guy is trying to be devil's advocate to all the people that keep saying this year doesn't really even matter, especially the meatballs. Will I be concerned if he doesn't come back to play at all this year? Sure. I'm still not going to freak out though. Just ask yourself: what benefit is it to anyone if Rose comes back to play sooner rather than later? In my eyes, there's virtually no benefit. Does that mean he absolutely shouldn't? No, but to get up in arms about him not returning immediately is just not worth it.
  8. I would need a million guesses or moore on who that could be.
  9. I see a lot of talk regarding Cook and desire for the Bears to sign him. The guy seems like he feels he's worth an awful lot of money though. Brandon Myers could be a good alternative since common concensus is that the Raiders offense inflated his numbers. I understand it's hard to make a heavy committment to a guy that only had one good year, but if Cook wants to be paid like a wideout, I say Myers is more than welcome.
  10. Why do you think Jackson's IsoD would drop so much? Just a guess but more weak contact to avoid striking out. I could see his BABIP having that much of a drop, but I don't think his IsoD would fall off like that due to his swing change.
  11. I agree whole heartedly with this. I think this relates to Illinois too though and I think there's a couple of UofI fans that are dangerously close to being in the looking-down-your-noses crowd. For sure. But I can tell you that personally, I haven't felt a whole lot of bluster about Illini hoops for a few years now. I think things are definitely headed in the right direction, but we haven't been very good for a while now. But homers will be homers, and we all have a few. That said, I'm not about to take any crap from Purdue fans (no offense). And you will not see me slinging any crap. I'm keeping my head low this year. When DJ Byrd and Terone Johnson are your leaders, you don't really have a lot to thump your chest about. Maybe next year...
  12. I agree whole heartedly with this. I think this relates to Illinois too though and I think there's a couple of UofI fans that are dangerously close to being in the looking-down-your-noses crowd. I'm not trying to be. I just like to take shots at Weber anyway I can. Just went with the Purdue angle to fire up Smack. I thought this may be the case and that's why I said dangerously close instead of lumping you in there outright.

  14. I don't think he did it with the intention of severing his achilles, but there was really no reason to be lifting his skate in that way. I could see him going for a laceratin on Karlsson's calf to put him out of the game and the impact of the board just brought his skate down on the achilles. When Karlsson put's weight on the leg and you see the incontinuity at his ankle, it makes me want to throw up.
  15. He's going to crean some people this off season and then I won't be able to make fun of Crean for doing it anymore... :( Am I missing something here? Is Painter still recruiting for 2013-2014?
  16. How many years in a row do things have to happen before people recognize it as perennial?
  17. It's tough to watch your team go from a national title contender to a perennial bubble squad at best. You'll get over it. I also read we're a real contender for Lyle, so the inevitable question is who are plan B and C at this point, because that's who we'll end up with. We're a perennial bubble team? Since when?
  18. Please stop.
  19. I feel for the guy. He provided a lot of fun memories (some not so fun with his breaking off a route too soon allowing interception schtick). Hopefully the guy has a decent degree to fall back on.
  20. I think I've been overlooking Stuck's numbers last year. Those are pretty damn impressive. I guess the aggressive promotions and mediocre numbers in 2011 put a damper on my opinion of him. I'm going to have to change my vote.
  21. Instead of basing their opinion strictly on the .275/20 projection, don't you think it is just as others have said? That BA is weighing his brief time in MLB last year a little too heavily and that's why he is ranked so low? To me, that's the most likely explanation at least.
  22. It's pretty amazing to me that Jensen threw 140 innings in A ball this year and had a 2.6BB/9 and 0.4HR/9... and he could be our 30th best prospect.
  23. Toonster, you keep saying the .275/20 projection was a peak. In my experience rarely do publications give varying degrees of expected performance. Usually, projections on players are peaks. I'm not sure why you are treating this differently than other similar comments. Unless the player's floor/ceiling is mentioned, the projections that are given usually indicate what the player in question could optimally turn out to be.
  24. LOL@ Ilyasova. I wouldn't want to be on a Nate Robinson poster either.
  25. I know a lot of lineman have them these days, but those knee braces freak me out. Are lineman using those as a precaution now, or are there that many players that have had surgeries on their knees?
