Now you want to make this a semantics argument? I give up, the Black Knight has defeated me. Mercy ser. http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g109/scarey23/tumblr_lxynhha3S81rn95k2o1_500.gif

I think you have this wrong. Some fans, it seems, feel it's weird for other fans to break down small sample size data to the Nth degree (IE getting worked up) regardless of if it showed positive or negative trends. Those fans find it even more weird when the fan who is "getting worked up" tries to justify it by jumping on a high horse and acting condescending as if he/she is some sort of pioneer for finding irrelevant data "interesting". Trends spotted in small sample sizes might not mean anything, or they might sometimes. There's nothing wrong with trying to spot possible trends prior to reaching whatever x number (which can get quite arbitrary when you're getting close to it) it is that makes the sample size reliable, especially if the eye test also would seem to suggest something is going on. I don't have any issue with Kyle's position on this. Except that according to lumafia, the eye test does not suggest something's going on. Also, there's a reason for those numbers that Rob posted on statistical significance thresholds. To conclude that Rizzo has a mechanical defect in his swing based mostly on batted ball info when he hasn't even reached two-thirds of the stastically significance threshold for batted ball stastics is... silly, to put it kindly. When 3 changed batted ball outcomes can drastically change your data, it is careless to use that data to conclude anything. Also, before you or Kyle tries to trot out the sentiment that he's only finding the data "interesting" again:

  4. I came across this stat regarding Greene: You have to factor in competition there. But as a former FS who has shown ability to intercept and defend passes, he's the perfect LB to have in the pass-happy NFL. Reading more on him really tempered the concerns I had doubling down on LB. Not that it means much, but pre-draft I thought he was the Bears possible 2nd round pick, to boot. he's also the least likely to play in 2013. Briggs is signed through 2014. The pressure will be on him to perform. There is nobody left here with much ties/incentive to keep Briggs, so Greene is-line to start by year 3 at the latest, maybe 2. Given their skill sets, it seems to me that Greene would be better playing MLB with Bostic taking over for Briggs, at least in the Tampa 2.
  5. Hendricks is just the kind of pitcher I like to foolishly tie my hopes to only to be disappointed when he hits the big leagues (IE Casey Coleman). My hope with him is that his control is just so much better than previous similar examples that maybe he can translate that into decent Major League production.

So this is another iteration of the "does noticing something and being curious about it count as getting 'all worked up'" thing? I agree. We definitely don't need to get all worked up. I don't know about you, but I call this: getting all worked up.

Huh... you found a better way to tell Kyle he was wasting his time than I was going to. Well done.
  8. Thats just nonsense. I was not happy with the pick, but that in no way means he's trying to outsmart people. What a baseless meatball claim. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I think this is what you meant.
  9. And zero errors. Despite Villanueva, Alcantara, Torreyes, and Mota all having great gloves, I have a feeling Beeler was really forcing those hitters to drive the ball straight down into the ground. Looks like he's got his splitter going well right now.
  10. O-lineman went early and often. Is it impossible to think that the personnel people for NFL teams had O-lineman valued higher than the experts did?
  11. So, everyone is up in arms based on where the regular talking heads had Long rated, correct? We just watched guys like Star Lotulelei, Sharrif Floyd, Bjoern Werner, Cordarelle Patterson, and Geno Smith fall WAAAAAAY down from where these guys were projected to go. Meanwhile, guys like Lane Johnson, DJ Hayden, Eric Reid, and DeAndre Hopkins went way sooner than anticipated. I'm not going to sit here and tell you that these guys are wrong. They're relatively accurate with their prognostications. However, to act like it a wasted pick because he wasn't the guys everyone was talking about is a little out of line. Also, for everyone talking about how Long was a mid second round pick... Kiper mocked him at number 30 to Atlanta yesterday. I'm not saying you should praise Emery. I just think it's a little early to be asking who the next GM is, even if it is hyperbole. Let's see how Long does before condemning the pick.
  12. That's the only thing about it. Those text thread jokes really shouldn't be more than 5 or 6 exchanges.
  13. I thought it was funny. /shrug
  14. It's not uncommon for them to outright cancel a lot of minor league games, right? It would be pretty fun to do a double header on a make up from one of these rainouts. Hopefully I'll get that opportunity.
  15. Whatever your judgment about Roth is. But... I'm not the guy to make those calls. I thought that was you. I wouldn't want to sound like I'm rationalizing anything.
  16. berardini was a walk-on that completed his degree. he's never played, but can transfer somewhere and play immediately because he has another year of eligibility. if he can get a grad degree paid for by going to a mid-major and playing, that would be awesome for him. Fair enough. He shouldn't count. So Sandi Marcius doesn't count either? I just want to get thejudgement on it now before people accuse Painter later on down the road. You are the judge and jury on these matters, correct? Was Marcius a walk-on? Are we really going to have a debate that players offered scholarships are different than players that walk on? I mean, really? He redshirted and was going into his 5th year. What is your judgement?

  18. During camp, will he just sit around waiting till they run special teams drills?
  19. Especially at the men's level, I would be teaching guys to throw it at the rim. Someone can just get close and tip it in. If not, you tip it out to a guy that's set up to take a quick jumper. Even the quick jumper off the tip would only run about 1.5 seconds, maybe less.
  20. He jumped, landed and his leg looked was bent like he was down on his knees, except it wasn't bent at the knee but halfway down his leg. It was Joe Theismann's injury basically. I still think Marcus Lattimore or Napoleon McCallum were the worst I've seen. Lattimore almost kicked himself in the face without his thigh even moving. Knox's injury is worse than everyone's because it was the back. I think the leg injuries are "uglier" to look at though given that you can see stuff sticking out of places it's not supposed to and complete limpness of the leg. Shaun Livingston will forever be the most horrific injury I have ever seen.
  21. Did you make that yourself? That's fantastic!
  22. I like that the idiot fan makes a motion as if to say "WTF LeBron, you won't let me steal your head band?"

  24. I always thought Bowman got a bit of a raw deal after being in something of a slump. There's no doubt that he played horribly in the games leading up to his demotion and deserved it. I think he played well enough prior to that slump to be a starter in the league and am happy to see him stick with the Bears. Like you said, he played well on special teams and I think he can fill in adequately on the outside if an injury forces him on to the field.
  25. I'm surprised to see the Contreras love. The only thing I've ever been overly impressed with was his bonus. I'm also surprised to hear people praise him for his defense. I thought I had heard his defense wasn't noteworthy. Also, I remember him playing around the infield a couple years ago which I assumed was an attempt to find him a better fit defensively than at catcher. Maybe I assumed wrong... I know Hendricks will probably be lucky to have a John Koronka-esque career, but his K/BB ratio is intriguing and something to attach hope to. He's got my vote.
