What about a Susac for Valbuena deal? I can't really find anything on Susac's framing ability in numbers but I know everyone he's ever worked with has raved about him. I'd be all for this deal.
You're further along than me...even in resignation I'm hoping for Shields + McCarthy/Liriano I don't even really want Shields that bad. He's so very, very old. I just want the FO to show that they care even the slightest bit about winning at the major league level. Thus far they have not done that.
Is that what our payroll would be if all we signed is 1-2 middle tier arms like Masterson and maybe a backup catcher? Right now we can put together a 25 man roster with about 66 million. Make it closer to 60 if you decide to non-tender Wood. So that's your baseline to add any spending to. Excellent, that means we can sign about 15M in players and still be competing with TB,FLA and PITT for the second lowest payroll in baseball. Fantastic.
I don't understand why they would sign both unless they're giving up on Xander Bogaerts. Even if Hanley went to the OF it doesn't make sense as they already have a huge traffic jam in Rusney Castillo, Betts,Victorino,Cespedes, etc.
What i wouldn't give for a coach who wants to step on the other team's throat rather than try and eek by every week. There is no way in hell you see the Patriot's or Denver running out the clock up 11 with 10 minutes to go in the game
Trying to force the issue deep isn't the way to attack this defense It seems to work for every other team when they play Tampa seeing as they have the 4th worst pass defense in football and 5th highest pass yards per attempt. Regardless, it's not just this week, it's a season long refusal to properly utilize the weapons.
Chicago is going through some kind of [expletive] up Stockholm Syndrome with how many people I've heard saying they want Lovie over Trestman. It's amazing how many people were content to go 8-8 or 9-7 year after year. Now obviously Trestman isn't the answer, but Lovie certainly wasn't it either.
Of course they are. Guy wont even get 100ABs as Rizzo's back up and can't play OF anymore thanks to his knee surgeries. Between Swisher and Gomes, Theo is just determined to shove some old veteran club house guy down our throats.
For reference, Montero's Steamer projection is .252/.338/.391 in 130 games, 3.1 fWAR Why don't we just cut Almora and at least save some money in the process. Giving up real prospects for Montero would just be awful.
Seems like an incredibly inefficient way to spend 40M. How many people were trying to line up to pay Martin 15-17 million per season to be a 3-4 win catcher? Same thing here except you limit downside by having two guys contributing and acquiring someone younger than 32. EDIT: Only 3 years instead of 4-5 too. If you're set on a platoon you could find other options that don't cost you 40M and could get you similar production.
just no. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-fascinating-jason-heywardshelby-miller-swap/ He's a platoon player that is really good in the outfield but has never lived up to his potential. Outside of his defense, there's really nothing impressive about him. Of course, he'll hit 35 homers this year because Cardinals. Are you just ignoring what is being posted when you reply? Truffle's post clearly outlined why you are completely wrong. The Cubs are going to have won the WS by October 19th next year? And only 14 posts in the celebratory thread by noon of (presumably - at least) the next day? The vast majority of the board didn't survive the Great Chicago Riots which wiped the once great city off the face of the map.
Montero looks real good now after Martin's contract. That's a pretty good team with those 4. I have zero interest in spending money or prospects on a guy who has been as marginal as Montero over the last two years. I'd rather run Castillo out there and watch him likely outproduce Montero at a fraction of the cost.
