Atlanta's pitching is going to be insane. They stole Allard in last year's draft and if it's true that they have a hand shake deal with Kevin Maitan next year, they're on their way to a monster farm.
Marlin Bystro Blake Snell is a name with Tampa that is being forgotten here. I know the Cubs liked him in the past. McGee and Snell for Baez, I would be absolutely thrilled.
What is this infatuation with Boxberger? He's not good. He had one great year in 2014 and has otherwise been poor. His 2015 peripherals are just bad. 4.26FIP 4.00xFIP 4.57BB/9 including a constantly high HR/FB%
He said he doesn't want to start, but if we're talking hypothetically then no I wouldn't. The Cubs are trying to win a World Series and that's too much of a gamble.
yeah if they didn't even have to part with Jose DeLeon, i'm prepared to be a little bit rankled about this trade The Cubs don't even have a prospect as good as DeLeon nor just about MLB ready.
My first two thoughts were Britton and Chapman. Britton is due about 6.5M in arb this year and is under control for I believe 2 more years after that. He would take a significant piece to land though.
If the return is Teheran or Miller I agree, but if we're talking Salazar or Carassco then I want the trade. what about one of the rosses I like Tyson quite a lot, but I'm still not sure I want to give up Javy for only 2 years in return. If a deal with Starlin and prospects could get it done then by all means. As far as his brother, I don't think the Nationals are realistically shopping him even with Giolito likely ready in 2017 and Fedde+Lopez the year after that. This becomes especially truly if Strasburg is moved before he hits FA next year.
Yeah, it was a pretty memorable brawl in which Cueto was kicking people, and iirc, Molina was on the receiving end. That might make for an awkward battery. Jason LaRue? Suffered a concussion and retired shortly thereafter, as I recall. Yup, it was LaRue and Cueto pretty much ended his career.
Um, are we really sure that Chen is even an upgrade? 4.16FIP and 4.01xFIP last year, even in his best year his peripherals weren't exactly thrilling(3.89FIP, 3.75xFIP,3.85 SIERA)
If the Cubs managed to steal Heyward, their offense would be in an even bigger hole. They pretty much have to land one of Chris Davis or Jason Heyward if they realistically want a shot at the division.
Not particularly thrilled, but ok with this deal, as there were about half a dozen options I would have preferred including Iwakuma if we were going old man on short term deal route. If this deal allows the Cubs to go after Gordon or Heyward than that's awesome, however; if the Cubs still end up with Austin Jackson then I'm going to be more than a little pissed off.
You're not getting out of that one without giving up one of Schwarber or Russell. 3 more years of control and last year wasn't a fluke. He was on that same 6.6fWAR pace in 2014 before injury.
