  1. This has been the most boring Cub offseason I've ever experienced based on pre offseason expectations. Tons of money to spend, tons of prospect assets, several clear areas of need, a team that is only a couple moves from NL central favorite and just nothing with a little over a week until Christmas. There have been times in the past where very little happening made sense, but this is undoubtedly not one of them. it's absolutely baffling.
  2. That it one massive overpay for 2 years of Cease.
  3. At this point I'd think the likely scenario is the Bears ending up 7-10, losing to Cleveland and GB while beating Arizona and Atlanta. I'll just about guarantee 1 thing as though, unless the Bears lose the next 3 games, if they beat GB in week 17, Eberflus is back. Something disastrous would have to happen for Poles to go anywhere.
  4. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/12/jesus-luzardo-drawing-trade-interest.html The ask would be very high, but this is the kind of guy you could slot in behind Steele for the next few years. Health is an issue, but the results the last 2 years speak for themselves.
  5. This doesn't matter much to me. I think the defense hangs with them regardless. The offense putting up points is major hurdle the Bears are going to have to overcome to win on Sunday.
  6. Is anyone saying he's bad? He's obviously a very good QB prospect, I think what most people take issue with was that he was a generational talent or that he was the clear cut no questions asked 1.1 in this draft. He's neither of those.
  7. Hoyer has proven he values defense highly. I'd find it very hard to believe he's going to move Morel over there when you're most likely outcome is below average defense with a chance at Ryan Braun levels of awful.
  8. .500 is pretty generous considering what they're down. I know you said .500ish and if I had to guess I'd say 77-78 wins as things stand.
  9. Cubs getting outspent by the Royals, I didn't see that coming. I'm kidding.....I hope.
  10. For some teams, I completely agree, but the Cubs badly need offensive production, not more guys with league average bats and plus gloves.
  11. Only Swanson didn't suck for 3/4 of a season before giving him his contract.
  12. If Hoyer gives Chapman 30M a year, I'm out.
  13. I mean, when you think about it, Counsell is pretty much a genius move for Hoyer/Ricketts. It gives the impression they're trying and builds hype around the team for far less money then it would take to sign a star player and on top of that, he's the kind of coach that has historically milked the best out of some mediocre cheap rosters.
  14. If the supposed ask on Cease from Baltimore was legit, hard hard pass. if I remember right it was Mayo and Ortiz which mlb has ranked as #27 and #50. That'd be not to far off from PCA and Shaw.
  15. Resources don't matter if you don't use them. He left a team that has been better than the Cubs for the past half decade, have a top tier farm including a league MVP potential prospect locked up long term, and that farm will get even better should they decide to move on from Burnes and Adames.
  16. Already a thread
  17. The same way they got Seiya here
  18. I don't recall him being very good with SD when he was the GM
  19. Yes, but I severely doubt Glasnow is going to take much less than 25M a year.
  20. Didn't notice Mahle signed a 2 year deal with the Rangers. Pitching market thinning out.
  21. I'm finding it funny that what was my pessimistic offseason take a month+ ago was Glasnow, Hoskins, Candy and a pen arm. At this point, that's sounding rather optimistic.
  22. You know of any other top of the rotation arms for 2024 that aren't going to require huge prospect hauls or huge contracts?
  23. Like, I want to believe the Cubs aren't stupid enough to not take a division that is absolutely theirs to take, but all signs point to that they are that stupid.
  24. Not that I was particularly interested, but Jack Flaherty to Det
  25. it's not like the Cubs needed another top of the rotation pitcher, they'll just throw another 91mph fastball firing #5 on the mound and that golden defense will take care of everything else.
