  1. I'll believe when I see it, but I sure am seeing a lot of speculation that Eberflus is out after the Detroit game, albeit not from big industry names.
  2. With Jed you have to set your expectations like this. There's the tier he should shop in which is the Soto/Burnes tier. Then there's the tier we expect him to shop in, like Alonso/Flaherty/Kikuchi/etc. Wherever we expect him to shop, drop it one more tier and that's where Jed is going to be. They'll once again be projected for somewhere between 80-84 wins and some here will desperately cling to theory about some bigger picture. When reality is more mediocre baseball and hoping to stumble into a wild card spot.
  3. I have no issue with depth, I have an issue with dropping 1/3 of the offseason money on depth
  4. But those guys are all so much better than Alonso.
  5. I would be shocked if he got 6/180. Freddie Freeman got 6/162 and he's a way better player than Alonso.
  6. Yeah he's not a 2.70 era guy, but his peripherals suggest his a 3.2-3.5 guy.
  7. I don't think going after Crochet is at all mediocre, but seeing that they've been almost entirely unlinked to him and Jed being afraid of big moves, I think it's incredibly unlikely.
  8. Why would he get more? He's coming off two years with a 122 and 121 wRC+, that's Ian Happ and Ian at least gives you defense and a few SB. Not to mention Alonso had a body type and skill set that falls off fast.
  9. Williams will put up 30 in a loss and still get hated on because it wasn't a win.
  10. It's the upside that I think is a tier or two above the others and upside it what the rotation needs.
  11. Which comes back to my original point that missing on Kikuchi sucks, especially if they intend to add 2 SP. edit: We more or less know they aren't in on Burnes/Fried/Snell. I'd be highly surprised if they were in on Flaherty. That meansif they're shopping in FA for a pitcher, they're shopping for a guy in the back half of the rotation unless a miracle of all miracles happens and Sasaki picks the Cubs.
  12. Another chance to be embarrassed in the national spotlight. Such fun.
  13. Probably true, and I'd 100% let the new HC choose his own staff. I was simply saying, if the new HC did, by chance, keep him as the OC I wouldn't mind.
  14. He's also a guy who doesn't have Bellinger's upside with the bat, not since 2020 anyway, nor any of his defensive value.
  15. A team that might actually win more than 84+ games and make the play offs without hoping for a lot of positive variance to do so.
  16. God we really love mediocre don't we.
  17. I don't see how moving Bellinger as a salary dump makes any sense given that this is a mediocre offense as is. I found it dubious they'll be able to trade him for whoever and still add an equal or better players for any time of particularly notable cash savings. So let's say you trade Bellinger for Castillo Bellinger makes 27.5M this year, Castillo makes 22.75. So, for 2025, you come out 4.75M ahead, but then you need to replace Bellinger's bat. Pete Alonso is going to set you back probably 20-25M annually, so will Santander and neither of them bring anything defensively nor the positional versatility.
  18. But it's not just Assad. It's also Wicks. By mid season it could also be Horton or Birdsell Even if we label Brown a reliver going forwards there are multiple options that don't take almost 1/3 of the available money.
  19. I can't believe how many people are ready to hand Thomas Brown the HC position based on 2 games. I could see potentially OC, if the new HC wants him, but head coach? How desperate are these people for any modicum of success?
  20. I don't particularly want Assad in the rotation either, but with the types of guys they're likely looking at in FA at this point Manaea/Bieber/Gibson/etc. are they really enough of an upgrade to use 15M of the 50M in payroll for that upgrade?
  21. I don't see them adding 2 SP especially if it's 2 guys slotting behind Steele/Shota. Why use resources on a slot that can filled by a combination of Wicks/Briwn/Assad/etc.
  22. Which is completely reasonable if they're going to actually use the 50M they have to spend elsewhere, but where? A back up catcher, a relief arm and a platoon bat surely isn't going to soak up 50M.
  23. Assuming the rumors are true that the Cubs won't even be in on Burnes, Snell and Fried, Kikuchi was one of the only arms that offered the upside the Cubs need in the rotation. There's basically Flaherty left and that's it now on the FA market. Of course Jed will inevitably add someone and it will be someone who we're going to question if they're even any better than Assad.
  24. Sure enough, this is what people are running with. Not that Caleb is the only reason they got to OT, not that the vaunted defense completely crumbled, but one play in OT where he tried too long to make a play happen.
  25. I'm 100% with you on the defense. That was laughably awful.
