  1. Lou isn't as attached to veteran players as Dusty Baker was, I hate that people keep cementing Dusty's problem to Piniella all the time. Just because Pie sucks every time he gets playing time and gets sent back down to the minors, doesn't mean Lou hates youngsters. Soto got the starting job last year after limited playing time at the end of the season, and HoffPauir has more than a good chance to get the Playoff roster spot over Ward. This is just a PH role we are talking about, which makes the choice of Hoff even more likely IMO.
  2. Pat Hughes is saying Hill slipped. Is he missing some toes as well?
  3. New strategy, put howry in the game, just dont let him pitch to anyone.
  4. Man, Shark is just falling apart at the seams these final weeks.
  5. Julian Tavarez pitching for the Braves...why does that guy still have a job?
  6. Pat Hughes "Hart gets out of a pickle"... Uh, let's praise Derrek Lee instead.
  7. These games don't matter all that much, but it's still not good to start some kind of losing trend either. There's no reason Kevin Hart should even be on this roster.
  8. There is absolutely no chance that happens. I disagree. Lou chose Soto to start over Kendall last year, and I thought it was pretty much set in stone that Kendall the veteran would be starting catcher.
  9. I don't want to get my hopes up after what happened to the Cubs last year in the NLDS that we should have dominated. BUT, I truly believe this Cubs team with our normal lineup would absolutely embarrass the Mets in a NLDS matchup. The 2008 Cubs are that much better, and well rested, as opposed to our sprint to the finish line last year. I guess it really doesn't matter though, Mets, Dodgers, we should destroy either team.
  10. Meh, Lou is just giving lip service to the league and the commissioner to head off any whining about us tanking games. Our guys will get good rest, and we will still field a competetive team regardless.
  11. Tattoo is the secret word for today.
  12. That's absolutely correct. They were supposed to be installed in 1942, but were donated to the war effort. They didn't have poles put up or anything yet, so they donated the lights themselves. Thanks! That's such a good story to tell people about the Cubs. It certainly cost the team revenue, if night games bring in more money, so to put national self interest ahead of revenue is something inspiring and great about the Cubs history.
  13. Need some help. Didn't the Cubs during WWII forego the opportunity to have field lights by instead donating the metal for military use? I've been trying to find an article online but can't obtain anything. If that story is true then it is something truly remarkable for a sports franchise IMHO.
  14. I kind of think the Reds will be trying to grab Bradley this offseason, along with Ivan Rodriguez. They've managed to dump some salary, and Dusty needs a few more veterans on that young team. IMO. That's if Dusty keeps his job.
  15. If we win it all you have to use the Eddie Vedder song for the final vid.
  16. In Project Mayhem, heroes have a name. And that name, is Geovany Soto.
  17. Marquis deserves a playoff spot no matter what happens tonight. He would be great for long relief if Lilly bombs out. Marquis' numbers are just below (better) his career averages in ERA and WHIP, just barely. He's also given up half as many HR's (14) as Lilly (31), and both have the same amount of BB's. I wouldn't be opposed to Pie as a speedy defensive sub, but not excited about his PH abilities. I'd prefer Hoffpauir over Ward if it comes to that as well. Ward had 1 or 2 productive hits all year, he's been completely worthless.
  18. I hope not. After we clinch, I want Fukudome to play every game the rest of the way to try and fix whatever the heck is wrong. If he doesn't get it going during that time, then he's a bench player for the entirety of the playoffs.
  19. CC must be tired from Hurricane Ike. Cubs fans are jerks.
  20. They need a catcher, I bet the Reds go after Ivan Rodriguez this offseason. He's a FA right?
  21. Maybe the Cubs fans were frustrated by the situation that the Astros management was responsible for. They can't boo Drayton McLane, so it could have been the only way for Cubs fans to express their frustration with McLane's actions on delaying the series.
  22. I'd still rather have Samardjiza over Howry.
  23. The Astros were tired after 2 days of rest? I was joking in my post about the asterisk, it's obnoxious that it's actually being discussed in the media.
