  1. His attitude towards everyone else not named Brad is kind of telling of his attitude problem if you ask me: It would be nice to see an account of the incident from a bystander.
  2. For the playoffs: Madhouse / Anthrax That's what I always wanted for Wood's entrance. I don't want a bad 80's song, I want a great song, because this team is great.
  3. Geez, and I wanted the White Sox vs. Cubs because I thought they're the weakest playoff team of the bunch. I got owned.
  4. So that is 3 days in a row for Wood yes? Does kind of suck he won't be available for the first game against the Phils probably. Yeah, that appearance last night with a big lead wasn't the smartest thing.
  5. What about pickoff moves to 2B? I think this is related to stealing 3B. Personally I don't like them, even though Zambrano has been somewhat successful with them. There certainly appears to be a higher margin for error on the maneuver, which requires much more timing and precision with the SS or 2B in motion. I think it's a high risk, high reward deal though, moreso than stealing 3rd. Making an out on defense is a higher reward than offensively stealing 3rd base. Maybe, or tell me how I'm wrong. I like to learn. Sometimes.
  6. Am I reading this right? Dodgers: 13 Hits = 0 Runs.
  7. What is the thinking behind stealing 3rd anyway? You score from 2nd on a base hit most likely. The possibility of scoring on a wild pitch is so infrequent it can't possibly be worth risking an out for it. Stealing 3rd seems like pure stat padding. Double steals are pretty fun though.
  8. The ultimate other shoe drops: Cubs stripped of all 80 wins and forbidden from winning the entire rest of the season. OMG it' the curse of Bruce Froeming!
  9. What's BABIP? I may have an idea but don't want to sound like an idiot. Which asking about it might make me sound like an idiot anyways. Batting average on balls in play. It generally mirror's a team's/player's line drive percentage plus a percentage. Is this the stat that is an attempt to measure Luck? Sure seems like it anyway.
  10. Those Rich Harden and Aramis Ramirez guys are pretty good too. Oh yeah definitely :good: . DeRosa has had so much impact in versatility, defense and surprisingly great offensive numbers this year. His impact has been bigger than Harden for sure, hard to say if he's been more important that Aramis, but he plays very well in ARams stead. lol...Mark Derosa is a nice player, but to say he's for sure been bigger impact than Rich Harden is silly. Hmm..would you agree to DeRo as 'best use of money' by Hendry?

  12. I think the Mark DeRosa signing is the arguably the best act Jim Hendry has done.
  13. Well I did initially think the argument was 8 genetically engineered copies of Adam Dunn. I think it's pretty convenient for the proponents of this argument to only include his offensive skill set as the basis of the argument. Last I checked there is defense in baseball still and Adam Dunn freaking sucks in that aspect. Take the whole skill set or not at all, which is why the point is insane. I'll take the current Cubs team with 5.4 runs per game, and not a single 'Adam Dunn' in the lineup, and I'm pretty confident they'd beat a team with 8 Dunns quite handily. man you're such a bad poster the question is "is adam dunn a good hitter" the answer is "yes, if you had an entire lineup that hit like adam dunn, that offense would be incredible. better than four adam dunn's and four ryan theriots or 4 ichiros or whatever" how badly you're missing the subject is just mindblowing. You're telling me every hitter having an OPS over .900 is a good thing? I don't think anyone said it was a bad thing. Something keeps getting interpreted as that it seems.

  15. Are you saying that lineup would not be good? How many runs would that team give up in defense every game? Is Adam Dunn pitching? But I want to repeat the question. Are you saying that lineup would not be good? If the lineup scored 6 runs, that would be great. But if the defense gives up 10 runs that would be not great. No matter who's pitching, any ground ball not hit right at Adam Dunn would be a single.

  17. Or 2B, 3B, CF, or C. I'll take my chances with a few sluggers, a few of great hitters (by my definition), and a few singles hitters over 8 Dunns, especially if they have to play the field. The 8 Dunns would score 18 runs one game and score nothing for the next two games as they strike out 20 times in each game. Seriously, this discussion has become absolutely absurd. 8 Dunns might make a great fantasy team in a points league. The World of Warcraft crowd is getting a little nutty in this thread. SUCK ON THAT NERDS!!!!! Include this tidbit as well: http://www.northsidebaseball.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=44177&p=1914842#p1914842 Huh? have you ever met someone who's addicted to WoW? There's people who play video games, and then there's the WoW crowd. There's also people who understand statistics, and there's people who think 8 Adam Dunn's on a for real life baseball team would be good.

  19. Zambrano is some kind of special athlete beyond superhuman.
  20. As am I. I don't think it's an absolute by any means but depending on the guy and team I think it does have an impact from time to time. I buy into it. I agree with CCF69. I can give various examples from all aspects of life, but being surrounded by people who are calm and cool definitely influences your own ability to manage emotions. This goes for everything in life from sports, to crisis situations, to family conflicts. It's just human nature. Of course that stuff matters and I agree as well. It's really annoying this prevailing doctrine that players are simply robots that will do X no matter what the situation is, and that emotions have zero effect on the game played.
  21. Harden goes in the night game. But won't be able to make his scheduled start on Sunday now. In the short-term, it's unfortunate. Taking the long view, though, Hendry said shortly after the trade that they'd give Harden an extra day here and there, or even skip a start or two, to keep him healthy the rest of the way. This effectively does that, so even with as well as he's pitched for us to date, I'm more OK with this after thinking about it. Fortunately for the Cubs, they are not in the position where Harden has to be used like CC Sabathia for the team to keep pace. This team is deep enough at SP to not be troubled by long breaks for Harden. So I agree. That's something I find strange about the Brewers use of Sabathia and Sheets, I mean they are securely in the Wild Card spot but are playing with desperation and burning out their pitchers. Or maybe that's a symptom of their bad bullpen?
  22. -Umps. A ridiculous antique in this modern age.
  23. Was it called? Yahoo is saying Postponed due to rain. Crap.
  24. LOL, that stood out to me as well. If he hasn't hit a bad stretch yet...yikes. I'm somewhat shocked that he hasn't heard any boos whatsoever yet. Jacque would be absolutely hated if he were hitting like Kosuke is right now. I've heard boos in the last few weeks while listening to gameday audio. You can hear the crowd quite well from where Pat and Ron call the game. I distinctly heard this from a fan after a whirly K: "YOU SUUUUCK" with scattered boos elsewhere at the same time.
