Not a blockbuster, but I like it since it addresses the OBP/leadoff issue. Interesting that two years out of the past three we traded with Pittsburgh to get a leadoff hitter. Hopefully the results will be similar. For those who are griping and writing off the season already, a couple of important points to keep in mind. First, it takes two to tango. The Cubs can't make any more trades if other teams aren't willing to trade. So many teams are still in postseason contention that few teams are ready to write off the season. Second, remember that today is only the NONWAIVER trading deadline. Big trades can and do get done after the deadline (for example, the Ramirez/Lofton trade in 2003). As teams start falling out of the race, I wouldn't be surprised to see more trades made. The next important deadline is Aug. 31, the deadline for postseason roster eligibility.
