I can just see this exchange happening before the final game of the season. Reporter: "Why isn't Murton in the lineup today? He was 5 for 5 yesterday, with 3 runs scored and 4 RBI. He's hitting .299 for the season. Doesn't he deserve the chance to finish over .300?" Dusty: "The dude got thrown out at the plate yesterday. He needs to, like, sit and reflect on that." Reporter: "But Speier waved him home. How is it Murton's fault when he was just following directions?" Dusty: "A player needs to, you know, think for himself and know whether he can score or not." Reporter: "Then why do you even need coaches if the players are expected to know what to do without help?" Dusty: "We need the coaches to, you know, help the players." Reporter: "Aren't you contradicting yourself here?" Dusty: "No contradiction, dude. It all makes sense if you, like, think about it." Reporter: "You're saying that you need coaches to help players, but that players aren't supposed to need help from the coaches." Dusty: "Exactly! You've finally got it."
