  1. The pie came today, maybe the filling will arrive tomorrow. With the entire bullpen being maxed out today I think it's a virtual given that a reliever will need to be called up to cover the next couple of days. I think Cherry is the logical choice (unless a trade, perhaps for Jones, is imminent). They could make room for Cherry either by optioning Cedeno to Iowa or by placing Ohman on the DL. Also, Zambrano ABSOLUTELY MUST be at his best and go deep in the game tomorrow. He's supposedly an ace, now is the time for him to be an ace.
  2. That's been the case in the past after the deadline passes but before the first update is posted. They don't update it daily like regular fantasy leagues do.
  3. i bet they're watching it on tv You really need to shrink that avatar way down. He's getting that message from several posters (including me).
  4. Huge, yes. Offensive, I don't see that. He used an actual Jack Brickhouse quote. you don't think the Cub getting it up the butt is offensive? I looked at it as the cub having a goat on his back (the Cubs' version of having a monkey on your back). I look at it as poking fun at the frustration all Cub fans feel, not trolling.
  5. oh my it is huge. I get that from girls all the time, hehe. so how do I resize it? Perhaps you could copy it to your hard drive, resize it using photo editing software, then upload the re-sized version to a photo site like Photobucket and link to that. Until you've re-sized it you really do need to remove it, because it's making people scroll back and forth from side to side to read people's posts. Where is my hard drive? is this photobucket free? Your hard drive is on your computer. And yes, Photobucket is free (http://www.photobucket.com).

  8. Bingo. I'm guessing that's the entire motivation (not just part of it). Otherwise there's zero justification for sending him down, as great as he's been pitching. If they really wanted to bring Pie up they could have placed Soriano on the DL if they expect him to miss more than a week, or they could have invented an injury to put Ohman on the DL. I believe Miller is on his way out when Guzman is eligible to come back and they just want him to get a couple of starts in AAA to get stretched out.
  9. Happy birthday. Just heard Len mention it on the WGN telecast.

That's always been my understanding too. I don't think all of the rulings on questions that come up are in the rules thread; sometimes they are discussed in the thread about that week's matchups when the issue is raised.
  11. Holy huge avatar, Batman.
  12. Correct, except that he could be called up sooner if it's to replace a pitcher who goes on the DL. My theory, and if I'm right I like the move: Guzman will get two starts to stretch out in Iowa, then after 10 days when he's eligible he will be called back up and replace Miller (who's continuing to pitch himself out of the rotation today). In fact, that DAMN WELL BETTER be the explanation because it's the only justification for sending Guzman down. He's been excellent his last couple of appearances, and you don't send him down for 10 days when he'd only be out of commission for 2 days after pitching last night. If the reason weren't to stretch Guzman out the Ohman to the DL move would have been done to make room for Pie rather than rewarding Guzman for his excellent pitching by giving him an all-expenses-paid trip to beautiful Des Moines, Iowa. :D
  13. He wasn't going to be available for the next couple days anyway. It will be very interesting to see what he does when he goes to the minors. If he starts a game, then he might come back up in 10 days as the 5th starter. Bingo; that's the only justification. He gets two starts at Iowa to stretch out, then comes back when he's eligible in 10 days and replaces Miller in the rotation. Or he gets one start and comes back earlier to replace another pitcher who gets "injured" and goes on the DL (a player can be brought back up before 10 days if it's to replace an injured player).

yes, that is correct. Thanks. If there's any justice in the world he'll come back to start, not relieve. :D

Cubs recall Pie and option Guzman to Iowa. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-070417cubspie,1,327940.story?coll=cs-home-headlines I know I can now move Guzman to my minor league roster since he is officially in the minor leagues. My understanding is that, since he wasn't qualified as a minor leaguer at the end of last year, that I need to move him back to the major league roster when he's recalled. Correct?
  16. Speculation during last night's telecast was that he has a chance of returning today, and if not likely by tomorrow night in Atlanta. He could have been used as a pinch hitter last night if needed.
  17. I got the CD today and enjoyed it. It's good to hear some of Caray's calls again. I especially enjoyed hearing his calls in the Sandberg game; I hadn't heard them before since the telecast was a national telecast.

  19. I think we need a "when can we officially worry about the lack of no-hitters?" thread. We've needed that since 1972. How about "When can we officially worry about the lack of World Championships?" :D

Nice help for me from Guzman tonight. Too bad Lou didn't let him finish the game to get a save and perhaps another strikeout or three. :(

I think that's definitely at least partially the reason. The snowout of the entire Cleveland-Seattle series the first week meant that some people were without some of their players for half the week. And as many postponements as there were yesterday had a major effect on people, especially those who had pitching starts scheduled for those games.
  22. I see no reason that a person can't feel bad about the tragedy and still care about baseball at the same time. The two aren't mutually exclusive. Feeling bad about something doesn't mean you have to put everything else on hold and think of nothing else.

I'm not. :( (I would be 2-0 if we used reverse standings like we did with the Cubs late last year when shooting for the top draft pick.)
