  1. Hill's not on the 40-man; maybe this is a sign that Miller is going to be removed from the 40-man to make room.
  2. Confirmed by cubs.com. And Hill is hitting .304 for the season and hit .306 in May, so they probably put more stock in the consistency he's shown over the course of the season rather than just the last 10 days. I'd rather see Soto up there, but Hill may still be an improvement over Hank White.
  3. It is somewhere in the world. :D
  4. I'll bite...How??? By not offering Extra Innings.
  5. The set's out now. I watched the Ryne Sandberg game today (nice to watch a game where the Cubs actually win, even if it is an old one).
  6. Yahoo Sports is reporting that the Marlins are trading relief pitcher Randy Messenger.
  7. There was a report on that on my local news last night, although at that time Brackman's status was still up in the air. In addition to the elbow soreness mentioned in the article you provided the link to, he's also dealing with the death of his ex-girlfriend in an accident recently.
  8. Good to see Veal get back on track. Hopefully that will continue.
  9. I followed the regionals last year because my undergraduate school (Ball State) and my doctoral school (Kentucky) played in the same regional (College of Charleston ultimately won it). This year neither school is in the tournament, so my interest isn't as high. I'm more interested in how individuals do (such as potential Cubs draft picks) than teams.
  10. Supposedly the Cubs aren't allowed to go above slot this year, so Wieters is just flat out of it based on financial reasons. At least that's what I thought Callis said in his latest chat. I assume you mean they're not allowed by the Trib, as opposed to MLB. I don't think baseball could prohibit it because the slot figures are recommendations, not enforceable rules (unless the new CBA contains such a rule, which I don't think it does).
  11. I believe it was Fishbulb's team through last year anyway. This is like the Yankees early in Steinbrenner's tenure, replacing Billy Martin with Bob Lemon, then re-hiring Martin to replace Lemon.
  12. Maybe he wants to be the next Bobby Cox. :D
  13. Floyd hit 4th, Ramirez was dropped to 5th, and Blanco caught (news mainly since he normally starts only when Zambrano pitches).
  14. That's not at all why the Cubs traded Palmeiro. Cindy Sandberg was the reason the Cubs traded Palmeiro.
  15. Come to think of it, Vance hasn't even been urging people to vote for the All-Star Game lately. Something must really be up.
  16. Someone with too much time on their hands should tabulate how many games the Cubs have actually lost each of these ways. Fred?
  17. 1969 calling to remind us that even if the Cubs are running away with things they'll still fall short.
  18. [wishful thinking]Maybe that means Pie is coming back up to play every day.[/wishful thinking]
  19. Someone (I think it may have been biittner77) suggested the idea of the rally goat a few years ago. Maybe that needs to come back. :D
  20. Whoopee! I'm sure they've "wanted" to win ever since 1908. I'm ready to see results, not desire.
  21. That's something Yogi might say. I originally listed just Bench and Biggio, and later added Yogi. Guess I did a poor job making those changes. Bench and Biggio are the obvious ones, since they were more recent. I'm not sure I would have remembered Berra myself (I forgot that he switched positions to make room for Elston Howard behind the plate). well obviously the most important attribute is that your last name starts with B. So Barrett is a natural to switch positions. So is Blanco, for that matter. And Bako before him.
  22. He's got Nolasco and Street (currently on major league DLs) in his active lineup, and when I played him a few weeks ago he had King Felix in his active lineup even though he was on the DL at the time.
  23. The only pitcher I had from an early game today was Wickman, and he had a perfect inning, so there shouldn't be any problems there.
  24. Bad hire...Eyre's 6.25 EPA (eaten pizza average) will kill the business In other words, Eyre would eat the profits. :D
