  1. Interesting that, when we signed both Ward and Floyd, Floyd's the one we expected to have a serious injury, but Ward's the one it actually happened to. Of course, there's still plenty of time for Floyd to suffer one too.
  2. the same proof that Neifi, Macias or Koyie Hill aren't You might want to re-think that one. :D he was on amphetamines, not roids, right? True, but Backtobanks' post didn't mention steroids specifically; it just referred to Arod possibly being on SOMETHING. If you want to play the nitpicking game so can I.
  3. Trout (Rainbow was his nickname) and Moyer both won 10 or more games for the Cubs (two consecutive years for Trout), but they were all before Hibbard. Mulholland won exactly 10 games total in 1999, but it was 6 with the Cubs and 4 with the Braves.
  4. the same proof that Neifi, Macias or Koyie Hill aren't You might want to re-think that one. :D
  5. I speculated exactly the same thing (I don't recall if it was earlier in this thread or another thread). I think it's "Moore" likely Scott will go back down in light of Lou's comments yesterday about Fox being up for a couple of weeks. One thing for people to keep in mind when talking about Mooree coming up rather than Cedeno is there are actually two time periods involved. One is this weekend as Lee finishes his suspension, the other is the remainder of Ward's DL stint (however long that turns out to be) after Lee returns. The roster doesn't need to be the same during both periods.
  6. Maybe Moore is just up for the rest of Lee's suspension, and when Lee returns on Tuesday Maybe Moore will go back down and Cedeno come up. If Derosa is really uncomfortable at 1B the Cubs may have seen first as a more immediate need for this weekend. Having a 12-man pitching staff can really hamstring things when you're also playing with a 24-man roster, which in effect they are doing while Lee is serving his suspension.
  7. And I thought mgl was an abbreviation for muggle (had to throw in a Harry Potter reference with the release of Book 7 tomorros). :D
  8. Consensus speculation, yes. Correct speculation, no. As posted in the Transactions forum it's actually Moore who got the callup.
  9. He was never signed by the Cubs in the first place; he was traded to the Cubs by Florida for Gary Scott and Alex Arias (after Florida took him from the White Sox in the expansion draft). He was a free agent after 1993 and signed with Seattle; I don't remember whether the Cubs tried to re-sign him or not. As it turns out not re-signing him was the right move. He was 1-5 with a 6.69 ERA with Seattle in 1994 and never pitched again after that (I'm almost certain he suffered some kind of arm-related injury and was never able to recover).
  10. All of the Moore threads have been merged together.
  11. Based on this logic I assume you think Pete Rose and Joe Jackson should be in as well, and I agree. What they did was wrong, but didn't undo their accomplishments as a player. I agree with their lifetime bans as far as future involvement in baseball is concerned, but I disagree with the rule that a lifetime ban prevents a player from being elected. And I believe that's a HOF rule, not a MLB rule.
  12. I agree. Since Derosa will be starting at 1B this weekend for the remainder of Lee's suspension and Izzy is no longer a Cub, middle infield is the critical need since, without Cedeno, the Cubs now have no backup middle IF.
  13. He can't. That's why Lou backed off of his earlier plans to move Dempster to the rotation and make Guzman the closer after Dempster prematurely spilled the beans and announced that he was moving to the rotation.
  14. I think you're likely right. He may pitch some the second half of the year (perhaps a rehabilitation assignment in the minors), but I'd expect it to be 2009 before he's back at full strength. Although TJS recovery is shorter for many pitchers than it was several years ago.
  15. He was 15-11 that year, his only year as a Cub. He was one of the pitchers that Larry Himes thought could collectively replace Greg Maddux. (I looked it up on Baseball Reference after answering and confirmed it was 1993.)
  16. Yep; 1993, I believe.
  17. I replaced Tracy with Encarnacion at 3B. Tracy missed Thursdday's game against the Brewers with a knee injury and, according to Yahoo, is likely to be given the Cubs' series off.
  18. There are only three games remaining in Lee's suspension. We can live with Derosa at first for that short period of time.
  19. Not really. It doesn't matter how many times a player goes up and down during the year, it's still just one option.
  20. That's exactly the move I'd expect too. If Ward can't start and Derosa is at first, the Cubs have no backup middle infielder since Izzy is gone.
  21. Different leagues. But the Chiti situation Vance mentioned was also different leagues.
  22. CRAP. That can't be good at all. Must be an injury. Noo! Not THE DON! either an injury or trade. He had a bad first inning, but wasn't ineffective to the point where they'd lift him for another guy. Anyone listening to the broadcast? The game writeup from the Smokies' web site doesn't mention any injury. It just mentions him being chased after facing 8 batters in 1 inning.
  23. I'm sure he'll be activated by the Cubs tomorrow if he feels good.
