  1. As was Micah Owings.
  2. He wouldn't qualify because he wasn't drafted by the Cubs. He was drafted by the Orioles and traded to the Cubs in the Sosa trade. Kyle Farnsworth would likely be one of the pitchers.
  3. The stretch is not our thing. The stretch is done across baseball. The Cubs choose to make it stupid. And they've used several opposing announcers and opposing team affiliated people who regularly throw-in the visiting teams name. The strech is more popular with the Cubs because of Harry, and then the celebrity thing.(whether people think it is stupid or not). I don't see the big deal about booing Uecker. But even Harry didn't start it with the Cubs; he started it while he was with the White Sox. Sl although the guest singer may be a Cubs' tradition, the idea of singing in the first place isn't.
  4. I don't think they do yet, but I believe there's been some discussion about doing it in the future. At first my feeling was that ratings are meaningless without including DVR recordings, but the more I think about it I'm not so sure, since as previously mentioned in this thread, most people skip the commercials. It's a whole new game with the technology, and if the purpose of the ratings is really to see how many people are exposed to the commercials rather than how many watch the show then perhaps not including DVRs would be more accurate. Perhaps the answer is to publish a dual set of ratings, one with DVRs and one without.
  5. More importantly, the Cubs are still on target for that. Are they? Not only are the Cubs throwing a lefty at the Brewers, but they're doing the same to the Cubs. A rookie lefty with almost no big league experience, no less. If recent history has taught us anything, it's that the Cubs are just about a certain loss tonight, unless of course there are Cubs fans in Vegas who bet big money against them.A win is in the books. I traded Lilly in a fantasy league earlier this year, so the Cubs are guaranteed to win in order to rub it in. Take it to the bank. :D
  6. Im assuming this is because of Iowas season almost being over? However I would expect Gallagher up this weekend, and there are rumors about Hart coming up as well. They wouldn't necessarily be up that quickly. Just because rosters expand on Sept. 1 doesn't mean that all callups are made immediately. It's common to call players up after the minor league season ends, which for Tennessee will be later due to almost certainly being in the playoffs.
  7. To me helping for the playoffs is the only logical explanation; Tennessee is all but in and Iowa is out. I don't think Hart is deserving of a demotion either; in fact he has been mentioned as a possible surprise callup when rosters expand.
  8. More importantly, the Cubs are still on target for that.
  9. No. He was DFA'd last week to open the 40-man roster spot for Monroe (so actually Monroe was responsible for both of today's moves). Most likely the Reds claimed Coats on waivers and worked out a deal with the Cubs.
  10. It's for college pick'em though, so there is not draft. Ah. I don't think you can delete your team from those contests; you can simply not participate, you'd be shown at the bottom of the standings with zero points, and that wouldn't affect anybody else. It's different than a regular fantasy league where you're matched head-to-head against another team.
  11. Naturally you're back when there's less than a week remaining in the minor league season (excluding postseason). :P
  12. I think I'll be taking a couple of road trips over the next several days. :D
  13. This is a contest similar to Hacking Mass in baseball in that the objective is to pick the worst lineup possible. Unlike Hacking Mass you set a new lineup each week rather than having the same team all season. There are cash prizes for each week as well as the entire season. Unlike Hacking Mass you can create leagues for this contest, so I created an NSBB/WCFB league (I'll post the information on both boards). To join you first sign up and create your team, then click Join A League. The information for this league is: League name, NSBB/WCFB; Password, bears.
  14. Yahoo rules indicate that you can delete a team if the draft hasn't been held yet, but not after the draft has been completed.
  15. It seems more logical to me, because if a player is being added primarily as a pinch hitter whether he's a right-handed or left-handed hitter could be more important than what position he plays in the field.
  16. As others have mentioned in other threads, drafting a backup kicker is probably a waste of a roster spot. The only time you'd use him is during your regular kicker's bye week, and you could probably pick up a serviceable kicker as a free agent for that one week. I prefer to use that roster spot for a player who might be a sleeper (such as a rookie that may start sometime in the year or a former reserve that's likely to win a starting position).
  17. The player added doesn't have to play exactly the same position as the player on the 60-day DL he's replacing, does he? My understanding is that substitutions have to be pitcher for pitcher and position player for position player, but you could, for example, replace an infielder with an outfielder.
  18. I don't know if they still do, but at one time the Cardinals always showed the video of Buck's performance during the 7th inning stretch of Cubs-Cardinals games.
  19. Yeah, maybe it was since the magical date of June 3. I know I saw something where the Cubs had the best record in the NL. Yes, it's since the June date (the day after Lou's meltdown), not the All-Star break.
  20. Yes, there's no mandatory 10 days in the minors once rosters expand. I believe that the player has to remain down until the end of the minor league team's season (Sept. 3 for Iowa) if that's less than 10 days. After the 30-3 game the Orioles optioned one of their starting pitchers to add another reliever. They optioned him to their rookie league team rather than AAA specifically because the rookie league team's season ends earlier so he could thus be recalled earlier.
  21. That schedule reminds me of the 2004 Cubs, who had no days off for about the last month of the season (longer than normally allowed under the CBA) because of having to reschedule an entire series against Florida due to a hurricane. I always thought the Cubs were burned out by the last week of the season and that was one of the reasons for blowing the Wild Card. Hopefully the schedule will have a similar effect on the Cardinals.
  22. I said Cubs take 2 of 3 to avoid expecting too much and being let down by what still would be a good series. As bad as the Brewers have become I think a sweep is quite possible, but I'd rather anticipate 2 of 3 and be pleasantly surprised with a sweep than expect a sweep and be disappointed with what's still a series win. After losing tonight I think the Brewers are now in must-win mode the remaining 2 games to keep a realistic chance of winning the division. If the Cubs do manage a sweep the Brewers will be 4.5 games out and finished.
  23. That's precisely why I'm not surprised. With the day off yesterday, the bullpen is rested, and it's only four days before rosters expand.
  24. Any relation to Micah?
  25. The question is whether they'd give you another chance as a semifinalist now that they know about your voting shenanigans. :D
