  2. I wonder if he'll be called back up when Tennessee's playoff run ends (hopefully with the championship) if he shows he's learned his lesson.
  3. That means two Cub affiliates tied for division titles but missed out on the playoffs because of tie-breakers. :( I prefer the major league approach where ties are broken on the field instead of in the rulebook.
  4. Zambrano's IQ? We know it's not Eyre's weight. I was thinking more our division lead, our hopes & dreams........our psychological stability as a fan base 8-) Eric Patterson's bank balance (I suspect he's been fined as well as demoted for showing up late repeatedly). :D
  5. And I haven't had any pitching starts yet. However, I'm going to wind up short on starts this week, thanks to Marshall being skipped in favor of Trachsel and Reyes being demoted to the Cardinals' bullpen. That may be to your benefit, if your guys pitch anything like mine. Hudson gives up 5 early, and has to struggle to get to -5.5. Could be; I've had a couple weeks where I would have been better off benching my entire staff and going with zero starts.
  6. Still only two people in the league. You have until Sunday to sign up and submit your team for this week; the Thursday season opener is not included in the players available for this week.
  7. Remember, there's an early deadline for submitting your Survival Football pick this week (if you haven't already done so) because of the Thursday night season opener. The Pick'em deadline is 5 minutes before each game, so if you forget to submit those picks early you can still pick all games except for the early game. Still room for more in all contests.

  9. I've lost track of it (especially with the new CBA), but it could be that Hart and Fuld would need to be added to the 40-man to protect them from Rule 5 in the off-season anyway. If that's the case, given that the 40-man was only at 38, there's no harm in adding them now rather than the off-season. This wouldn't affect the option clock, as an option is used by sending a player down, not bringing him up. I do wonder if this is an indication that Guzman isn't coming back this year. Since he's on the 60-day DL, bringing him back would require a position for him on the 40-man, and after these moves there isn't one remaining.
  10. I'm surprised Hart is coming up. There was some talk of it earlier, but that was when they thought a 6th starter would be needed for the St. Louis DH, before the Trachsel trade. And I certainly wasn't expecting Fuld to come up. It seems to me that it isn't common to bring up players not yet on the 40-man.
  11. Since Tri-City has the tie-breaker, at least that means that, if Boise makes the playoffs, they will be at .500 rather than below. Mediocrity rules!
  12. I always want to see the Cubs make the playoffs. I enjoy watching the playoff games more when I actually care who wins them. Of course I want them to win the World Series, but making the playoffs and losing in the first round is better than not making the playoffs in the first place. And even if a miracle World Championship like last year's Cardinals is unrealistic, there's always the chance that they could at least win a round and advance.
  13. Actually, it's a guarantee that DePo will NOT be Hendry's predecessor. MacPhail was his predecessor. :D
  14. While that isn't a realistic solution, I wouldn't mind seeing Lou hang it over Zambrano's head to see how he responds. It wouldn't be realistic this time through the rotation (both Trachsel and Marshall are prepared for Trachsel starting tomorrow, and changing it on short notice would probably be disruptive to both of them). However, Lou could certainly make it clear to Z that he needs to have a good game next time if he wants to make his subsequent scheduled start.
  15. I don't think fans make a conscious decision to boo; it's just a natural human reaction resulting from frustration. The fans want a championship and they want to see Z (and all players for that matter) do well. When he stinks for over a month after signing an extension, and the result is a lost opportunity to gain a game on the competition, it's frustrating and the result is booing.
  16. That's exactly what he needs, both for the team's sake and his. If he pitches well both in Pittsburgh and Houston (regardless of the outcome of the games) I think all will be forgotten and he'll be cheered his next start in Wrigley. He overcame the incident with Barrett; hopefully he'll overcome this as well.
  17. But it's not a bad game. It's several bad games in a row, over a month straight now. There's a difference. Everybody has a bad game now and then, but an ace can't suck continuously for so long (especially when he already had such a streak early in the season).
  18. It may be good that Z's next two starts are on the road. Maybe he can put together two good starts, and by the time he pitches at Wrigley again all may be forgotten. If his next start were in Chicago I think he'd be booed mercilessly.
  19. No he's not fine. If he had a couple of bad outings in a row that might not be a cause for concern. But this has been going on over a month now, both before and after the extension. Things are not fine when your "ace" stinks the first two months of the season and then disappears again during the heat of a pennant race.
  20. Here's a thought, Z: Stop sucking each time out and start pitching like the ace you're paid to be. Then you'd get a standing ovation every time out. We fans tend to like players that step it up in the heat of the pennant race, not players that disappear at crunch time. We're funny that way.
  21. I think Lou should either skip his next start or else tell him in no uncertain terms that in his next start he's pitching to keep his spot in the rotation. Aces don't disappear like this in the heat of the pennant race. This is the second year in a row he's started slow, been on fire in the middle of the season, and then slumped in the latter part of the season. Right now a start from him is close to an automatic loss.
  22. The only questions remaining are whether Alamo Stealth or Northside Baseball will get the #1 seed in the West, and who will wind up #3 in the East (HBC and Buddiga currently tied; Bayou Bashers could make it a three-way tie). Raw, since you've already clinched the East, feel free to rest your starters for the playoffs this week and let me beat you to finish .500. You don't want to wear your players out or risk injury for a meaningless game. :D
  23. Tennessee is in the playoffs as a wild card. Peoria can only make the playoffs if they beat Cedar Rapids by 19 or more runs. If Peoria wins they will tie Cedar Rapids in the standings, and they will be tied in head-to-head play, so the second tie-breaker is run differential. Boise trails Tri-City by 1 game. If Boise sweeps the series they win the division for the second half. If they win 2 of 3 Boise and Tri-City will tie for the championship (with a losing record); I'm not sure where they stand with respect to the tie-breaker.
  24. I'm now closer to first than last and only one away from the North Carolina lead. :D
  25. Only if she shares. :D
