  1. Major setback for my team: Jason Jennings underwent season-ending elbow surgery. It was the same surgery that ended his season last year.
  2. Appropriate if the owner making the offer was Ebenezer Scrooge or The Grinch.
  3. Outstanding comparison. He had ridiculous potential just like Prior. And just like Prior, his rookie season made it look like he'd actually live up to that potential. I'm fairly sure Fidrych won Rookie of the Year, and Prior almost certainly would have in 2003 if he had qualified.

I'm not sure if it's new or a clarification. My understanding in the past was that, once you promoted a player to your major league roster, you had to keep him up unless he got sent down by his team. However, I remember Juan saying a few weeks ago (I don't recall which thread) that you could send him back down as long as he's never lost minor league eligibility (this year or any previous year).
  5. He got sent down, not called up. He started the season on the major league DL and got sent down when he was activated. He hasn't been on the Orioles' 25-man roster this year.
  6. The Cubs' Jose Cueto He was in the Cubs' system from 1999 through 2001. He was then one of the players traded to Florida in the trade for Clement and Alfonseca and played in Florida's system during 2002 and 2003, before returning to the Cubs' system for 2004. He pitched in 4 games (5 IP) in 2004 and put up a 19.80 ERA; he's been out of baseball ever since. He never got higher than AA.
  7. He's this generation's Mark (The Bird) Fidrych. :(

So much for my hanging on to a 1/2 point lead with a 2 start pitching disadvantage. I needed the Giants and Padres to have an 11-10 type of game, not 1-0.
  9. Start the countdown for his appointment for TJS.
  10. Interesting analogy, since Marmol used to play Soto's position (catcher).
  11. Prior and Clement don't count; the list is of ex-Cubs who are currently pitching in the majors, not tossing towels. :D
  12. Luis Montanez, but I don't think anyone thought he would be a megastar. He is still in Baltimore, suprise suprise a former Cub prospect in Baltimore, I think at AAA. Thats him. Looks like hes actually on their AA team. Not doing bad for himself down there. I guess its better than nothing http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?n=Luis%20Montanez&pos=RF&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=428642 Actually, I think being in AA ball 8 years after being the #3 overall pick is doing VERY bad for himself, regardless of how good his numbers may be this year. Mastering AA ball after 8 years isn't impressive.
  13. What a worthless bum. He's not leading all three Triple Crown categories.
  14. And if he continues to improve in EST and move up maybe Happy Pawalek Day can return.
  15. A couple years ago, yes. Now, I'm not so sure. He's redeemed himself.
  16. It's destiny. This is the year.
  17. Of possible interest to the posters from North Carolina: Mount Olive won the Division 2 national championship today by beating Ouachita Baptist 6-2. The damage was in the form of 5 unearned runs in the 1st inning after a two-out error.
  18. Shawn Estes will not pitch against the Cubs as scheduled. He's on the 15-day DL because he fell in the dougout and broke a finger on his pitching hand. Too bad; I was looking forward to the Cubs lighting him up.

I lead by just over 30, but I'm all out of pitching starts and Navin still has 4 remaining. I need for him to put up a negative start or two for me to hold on.
  20. No dude, you just don't get it. We're honoring him. Like the Chief at U of I. Damn PC culture. Can't we honor people anymore? The Martians demand that people stop using sarcastic green because they think it's making fun of them.
  21. I think a more appropriate comparison is after the same number of games. So, after 55 games (the number the Cubs have completed this year): 1969: 37-18 1977: 36-19 1984: 31-24 1985: 35-20 1998: 31-24 2008: 34-21 I remember the great start the 1977 team got off to, but I didn't realize they were only 1 game off the 1969 pace.
  22. So what does Otis89 have to say for himself? :D
  23. There were actually three of them: Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, and Tony Esposito (although Hull was the leader). And yes it was a really bad version, maybe the worst ever (although Ozzy Osbourne might dispute that). They were off to the races, singing way ahead of the crowd.
