  1. If true I think all players involved will become free agents and any teams involved will be subject to hefty fines and limitations on signing foreign players.
  2. Wood was becoming more durable. He didn't miss a single start in either 2002 or 2003. He occasionally left a game because of a blister, but it was always healed by his next scheduled start.
  3. Hah, that was my first year watching the team. I actually liked that rotation for some reason. I was a fan of Kevin Foster and Castillo. Navarro was solid with us, too. I don't remember much about Bullinger other than he had huge ears. Trachsel was dominant in 1996, if nothing else. He was very good in 1994, 1996, and 1998. He was horrible in 1995, 1997, and 1999. sounds like he was on the bret saberhagen plan. Yep, about 5 years before Farnsworth started the same plan.
  4. Hopefully it's an issue of getting the rust off combined with their bus breaking down and them getting to the game late. But 2 straight horrid control games is not good. Sigh. well he'd better get his act together soon... he's on his way to being the fastest #1 draft pick bust since len bias. Not even close. Regardless of how much he struggles you don't declare a #1 draft pick to be a bust before even completing a full season of professional baseball.
  5. He hurt his hand/wrist for Iowa a few days back and hasn't played since. Must not be too bad, since he isn't on the 7-day DL.
  6. I fought the law and the law won,I fought the law and the law won.
  7. Any chance that Hill will start for Daytona instead since he didn't start tonight? I never saw an explanation for why he didn't.
  8. Joe Jackson is a difficult guy to classify because I believe his best seasons came with the Indians, however his fame (or infamy) is with the White Sox. Furthermore, if he hadn't been thrown out of the game, it is likely he would have stayed with the White Sox most of the rest of his career. So he is hard to classify. Tris Speaker is in the same boat as well. He had 9 seasons with the BoSox and 11 with the Indians. Like Jackson, I think his best years came with his first team, the Red Sox. However, 8 of his seasons with the Indians were as player/manager and he led them to a World Series in 1920. I think Frank Robinson also fits that description. He had great seasons with both the Reds and Orioles (including an MVP season with both teams), so it's hard to think of him specifically as a Red or Oriole. Maybe they need a separate category for multi-team players who were all-time greats when considering their entire careers, but not for one single team.
  9. Players who clear waivers aren't announced, so it's doubtful we'd know about it.
  10. Not just "nearly every week," but literally every single day (except for occasional Monday and Thursday off days between series).

  12. Actually that was when the Twins were threatening to move. The Greensboro area was the pawn they were using to blackmail Minnesota into building them a new stadium.
  13. I need to win out just to match last year and finish .500.
  14. Yep, that's about what he said. He seemed concerned that voting people in would dilute the accomplishments of those already in. I believe he said that before the very first election after restructuring the committee.
  15. My guess.......Cotts. Another possibility is Eyre going back on the DL (he probably won't pitch during that time anyway, so his absence would hardly be noticed).
  16. You mean you'd rather see the Cubs sweltering in the heat of the August sun and burning out like in 1969?
  17. Only a 40% chance of rain in Daytona today.
  18. If I were Chip I'd probably be feeling a bit nervous in 2018 (especially if I had any health issues that seemed minor but had the potential for something going wrong).
  19. This week marks significant anniversaries of two events in Cubs' history (one good, one bad). Wednesday marks the 10-year anniversary of the death of Jack Brickhouse (I still find it somewhat ironic that the two biggest giants in Cubs' broadcasting history both died the same year). And on a more positive note, Friday marks the 20-year anniversary of.....Let There Be Light!
  20. So in a sense Leo Durocher is partly responsible for Ron not being in the Hall (it was Leo that suggested to Ron that he click his heels following home wins after Ron did it spontaneously the first time).
  21. Just an example of the stupid scheduling. There's no reason that the Cubs (and many other teams) should have been off the Thursday of the break week (three days off is plenty). They should have played that day and saved the day off for later in the season.
  22. The Fecal League standings come to Roadkill. :D I doubt I'll pass up all the teams "ahead" of me to get the top pick, but I could see myself ending up at #3 or #4.
  23. Danny Jackson contributed more to the Cubs than Jay ever will.
