  1. Well, Samardzija really turned the corner after I badmouthed him. Quick somebody get started on Rich Hill and the Cubs offense. Rich Hill is the worst pitcher in professional baseball, but even he could shut down the Cubs' offense right now.
  2. There is some precedence for that. The most recent I recall is the Canadian figure skating pair from the 2002 Winter Olympics after the scandal involving the French judge. That's also what I tthink should have happened with the men's gymnastics all-around in the last Olympics after the scoring error that was caught too late.
  3. Actually I believe the IOC is asking the International Gymnastics Federation to undertaking an investigation, as opposed to doing it themselves (at least that's what was stated in the ESPN article I linked to a page or two ago). I believe issues such as this are decided by the individual sports' governing bodies (since they make the rules in the first place), not the IOC. I think it was the same four years ago when there was the men's all-around controversy.
  4. And you spelling ability is showing.
  5. And two more track medals (silver and bronze) in the men's 110 hurdles. Not a bad day as it turns out.
  6. Actually, no. He isn't the pitcher he once was, but he's by no means a bad pitcher.
  7. Finally something goes right for U.S. track. Gold, silver, and bronze in the men's 400.
  8. ESPN.com is saying the same thing. http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/summer08/gymnastics/news/story?id=3547713
  9. So we want him to be a late inning, defensive replacement for Lee? Im thinking vice versa. No. Lee is not a bench player.
  10. Probably not. 60% chance of rain tomorrow during the day, 80% a night.
  11. I think it was largely a case of a team and a new manager getting used to each other. Don't forget they started slowly in 2003 as well (they were a game under .500 as late as July).
  12. Yep; nthing like being critical after the fact after she just won silver.
  13. The convoluted tie-breaker settles the men's vault too. In Nastiu's case, however, it never should have come to that in the first place. Way to hand an undeserved gold to a 10-year-old, judges. I wonder how much they're being paid to fix the results.
  14. I went with Dempster, because he's never shown any indication before of being this good as a starter. Edmonds is a surprise too, but I went with the season-long Cub.
  15. Except if the Cubs won this year, there'd be 99 years between championships. OK, make it 100 wins for AVOIDING 100 years between championships.
  16. It would be fitting if the Cubs win exactly 100 games. One win for each year between championships.
  17. Harang blows yet again. Fortunately I had him benched. At least he should be a cheap keeper if I decide to take a chance on him rebounding next year.
  18. They got the 1 out of the way, now time for the 39.
  19. And those that ARE broadcast in HD but not available to people outside the Chicago area because stupid DirecTV doesn't have WGN-HD. People who complain about games that aren't being shown in HD. People who complain about people who complain about not getting what they're paying for. (We can keep going back and forth on this forever.)
  20. Yeah, if the team that has the player says, "okay, you can have him," then the team that makes the claim gets the player, and his salary. D'oh I forgot about that. I can't remember what it was, but that backfired for some team (it was probably the Mets) and they got stuck with a bad contract. The Padres did that several years ago with Randy Myers to block the Dodgers from getting him. That ended up being a horrific decision by the Padres. I forget the specific teams involved, but I also remember somebody claiming Jose Canseco to block a trade and then getting stuck with him when they didn't even have a starting position for him. I believe it was the Yankees claiming Canseco off waivers from Tampa Bay to block him from going to..........Oakland. http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2000/0807/672593.html Yes, that's what I was thinking of.

  22. I wouldn't mind him resting the entire weekend (except for possibly pinch hitting). The offense is firing on all cylinders right now; they can win without him. Resting the weekend plus the off day on Monday should make him 100%.
  23. Hill is going to do some serious damage to quite a few people's scores.
  24. Same thing out here but at midnight. It's been crashing at midnight for a while now but it used to only be for 2 to 3 minutes. Now it's more than 10. I think you're both talking about the same time, but in different time zones. For me it's 3:00 A.M., but I'm in the Eastern zone, so that's the same as 2:00 Central or midnight Pacific.
  25. I don't think he is. His wife is the team coordinator, though.
