  1. Hendry worked for the Marlins for three years before joining the Cubs.
  2. That seems quite possible to me. It's Wells' first career major league start; nobody knows what will happen.
  3. Polo Grounds. During the 1954 World Series against the Indians.
  4. They lost last night. Oops, that's right. OK, they CONTINUE cooling off this weekend. :D
  5. They cool off starting tonight.
  6. BTW, the correct answer is baseball. Football is an enjoyable way to pass the time between baseball seasons.
  7. This topic just screams poll, so I converted it to a poll and moved it.
  8. It wouldn't matter to you because you'd be dead of a heart attack. :D
  9. Maybe Perez read that booklet himself and got a swelled head.
  10. The proper move would be to cut Gathright. So we can assume that won't be done.
  11. His immediate predecessor, no less. That would have been exactly what the Carolina Hurricanes did in hockey this year. A few years ago they fired Paul Maurice and replaced him with Peter Laviolette, who led them to a surprise Stanley Cup a couple of seasons later after returning from the strike. Since then they missed the playoffs the last two years (the only Stanley Cup champion ever to miss the playoffs the next two years) and they were off to a slow start this year. So they fired Laviolette and replaced him with.........Maurice. Under Maurice they made the playoffs and appear to be headed to the Eastern Conference finals (they currently lead Boston 2 games to 1). So sometimes hiring a previously fired coach or manager works.
  12. I'd seen speculation about something like that happening for several days now. That way they can send him to the minors on a rehabilitation assignment without him having to suffer the humiliation of actually being optioned to the minors.
  13. I'd probably pick up Manny, drop Atkins with A-Fraud returning tomorrow, and move Valverde to the DL. If I have the number one waiver position I try to avoid claiming players on waivers and losing my position just for situations like this.
  14. No, we DON'T want that. That would reduce the NL's chances of winning and, therefore, the Cubs' chances of having home field advantage in the Series. We want that to happen for AL players, not Milledge.
  15. I think that the Brewers had Gwynn up for Cameron last year and sent him down when he came back if memory serves me right. That would be a good idea, though. Penalize the team for not policing their own players. There are circumstances under which a team can place a player on a suspended list and replace him on the 25-man roster. I'm not sure what the specific rules are, whether it's based on the number of games or the type of offense. I'm fairly sure that when Bradley serves his suspension (whether it's the original two games or reduced to one) he'd still count against the 25-man roster. But if Manny has to remain on the roster that would mean the Dodgers would effectlvely have to play with a 24-man roster for nearly a third of the season. I don't know where the dividing line is.
  16. That's exactly what he WAS doing, taking his medicine. :D

    Manny

You can reserve a player that gets injured and is listed as day-to-day but isn't placed on a major league DL, so I'd think getting suspended would fit in the same line of thinking. I thought the general thinking was that it's OK to make changes during the week due to a change in the player's status with their team (getting hurt and missing a few games, getting benched, etc.); getting suspended seems to me to be in the same spirit. So my thinking is that he'd be allowed to move Manny to his reserve list, just not the DL.
  18. I predict a rash of people dropping Manny from their rosters. :D

    Manny

Except Adam has Sheets on his DL.
  20. This is part of the problem with "This Time It Counts." Fans have an incentive to vote for crappy players from the other league.
  21. Why on earth do you want to give Theriot a day off now? 3 HR's in 4 games? Let the guy play while he's hot. Wasn't Dusty Baker the king of giving guys off days in the middle of hot streaks or is that my hatred for the guy warping my memories? That was Dusty all right. I remember jokes on this board about Dusty giving a player a day off as a reward for a good game. Baylor did it too. Yep; there were also people posting at the time that Baylor and Baker were basically the same manager.
  22. In the baseball sense, yes.
