  1. This is addressed in the rules thread. A player is minor league eligible until the first time he has more than 200 at bats (not plate appearances) in a season. Ramos will likely lose minor league eligibility within the next few weeks but he still has it for now.
  2. Nothing like leading by over 20 and having a pitching start advantage remaining. That doesn't happen with my team very often.
  3. Maine was not called up yesterday. The moves were Wood to the DL offset by activating Baker from the DL.
  4. Could be worse. Imagine Harry trying to pronounce it.
  5. When I've gone to Smokies games at Carolina I've usually sat between home plate and the Smokies' dugout, frequently in the front row.
  6. None whatsoever.
  7. When Big Z joins NSBB and starts game threads. :D
  8. The NCAA is not happy with Kentucky. Following a win over Florida in February they held a quick celebration to honor Calipari's 500th win. Problem is, he only has 500 wins if he's credited for the 42 vacated wins. Kentucky thinks they should count towards his record; the NCAA begs to differ.
  9. Wisconsin has committed a minor recruiting violation with respect to former NC State QB Russell Wilson. Basically, WR Nick Toon answered a reporter's question by saying Wilson is a good player and they hope he comes. Oops; commenting about a player that has not signed or committed is apparently a no-no. It sounds like they won't have to stop recruiting him because of the violation.
  10. Unless they meet in the playoffs this will be the last game the Smokies ever play in Carolina. Next year the current Carolina AA franchise is being sold and moved to Pensacola, Florida. The current Mudcats owner, in turn, is buying the Kinston Indians (A+ Carolina League) and moving them to Zebulon, where they will take on the Mudcats' name (the AA team will get a new name when they move to Pensacola). This is basically due to long travel times between Carolina and most of the other Southern League cities. Carolina is a geographic outlier for the Southern League but a good fit for the Carolina League.
  11. Going into today I thought I had a chance because I had a 2-0 pitching start advantage. But those two starts combined were negative and I'm toast.
  12. I may be able to make it to tomorrow's game too. Sounds like it should be much cooler and less humid.
  13. My guess is that it's just added bullpen depth for a couple days, with a pitcher to go down when Johnson is activated. Between the extra inning games and Wells' shortened outing due to the rain delay the bullpen seems to be taxed. Apparently that's why Quade left Zambrano in when he was clearly finished yesterday.
  14. It would be fun to watch the Tigers vs. Tigers games, though.
  15. Apparently 12 isn't enough pitchers for the Cubs. Snyder said he'd be willing to return to Iowa if not claimed on waivers by another team. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110611&content_id=20338566&notebook_id=20340476&vkey=notebook_chc&c_id=chc
  16. I can see it in my mind. Garza gives up a home run to himself, then celebrates and throws a tantrum at the same time. Next time up he sends a message by hitting himself with a pitch. :D
  17. Nah, it will be the Florida Marlins that switch to the AL, then change their name from Florida to Miami. That sets up the Cubs' 2015 World Championship as revealed in BTTF2. :D
  18. You're right; Garza vs. Garza IS a good pitching matchup. :D
  19. West Virginia coach Bill Stewart has resigned after being accused of trying to dig up dirt on coach-in-waiting Dana Holgorsen, who now starts his tenure as head coach a year early. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=6650019
  20. Correct. The WC change (if you choose to make one) I believe can be done ONLY during the All-Star break, not after.
  21. I don't think he has a single hit since returning from Iowa.
  22. And the only 2 LHP were David Clyde ('73) and Brien Taylor ('91)....so 2/2 on failures with HS pitchers at #1. I've never heard of Danny Goodwin (#1 in '75 from Peoria) Is Goodwin the guy who went number 1 twice? Yes. He was #1 overall by the White Sox (1971) and Angels (1975). He's the only player to be drafted #1 overall twice.
  23. Aroldis....not trying to be nit picky, just correcting in case you really do have it mixed up in that brain. I knew it was Ar-something-is, and I was too lazy to look it up.
  24. I was thinking it was traveling secretary, but yes, he did used to work for the Cubs.
  25. Adonis Chapman is rehabbing with Carolina. Good chance the Smokies see him sometime during the series.
