    What powers do you think he'll have as President that would be a problem? I think he fears that somebody else would be the guy performing GM duties. yes, exactly. But also, its my lack of knowledge as to what duties would be required as Pres, and if they sop up too much of his time, will he have to delegate GM responsibilities to someone of less ability.

    this is actually what I fear, that Henry is saying to Chicago, go ahead, make him President. I don't know that I want Epstein as a President, I want him as a GM. I'm also wondering if Ricketts also only wants him to be the GM.

    Well that settles that then. Better lock up Carlos Pena. He said that while Chicago is a great place to play, these guys want to win and are not going to want to wait around for any type of rebuilding process that could takes years. their loss then.

    huh? the guy is under 40 and is the GM of a MLB team-he didnt get there by backing his way in. He isn't weighing opportunity against social ties, he's weighing opportunity vs opportunity. Boston is either negotiating a trade with Ricketts or offered him something of a relative equal position. There's more to it than x vs y, or Beane would be sitting in the Boston GM Chair instead of Theo. Boston doesn't really have an equivalent position to offer. Beane has ownership = more then Boston could offer.
