  1. I love him but yes he hasn't been that great so far just average batting wise. He's been very patient and thus has a good OBP but has shown little power and hasn't gotten many hits in his RBI situations. He has played great defense though so overall he is doing well just not to the level we expected.
  2. sweet, although he's sucking this year and has a career high 12 wins. I would rather go after Harden since they both have severe injury problems but Harden is a much better pitcher when healthy.
  3. Tell him if he wants one like that to buy it himself. I don't mind people going a little off the colors of the team. I once had a black Cubs hat with blue Cub bear on it. In general white or balck is okay but you go else where and you lose me. All brown Cubs hat they shouldn't even allow it to be made. An example of slightly off the colors is also a rad Cubs hate. It's a team color but not really plus it gets confused with Reds a lot but its acceptable. Can we all agree the camo ones are the worst?
  4. This is probably the worst one to me when you think about it. All the other blown ones its just whether you could see it or not this one has physics on its side. The ball can't hit the wall and bounce UP unless it hit on top of the wall thus it had to be a homerun.
  5. I think a lot of Cubs fans (especially my friends) were upset about the signing and rooted for him to suck for two weeks and be cut. I think that philosophy was as prevalent as the fans that just accepted him from the get go. His first home game he was booed while taking the field. I was on the fence. I didn't care one way or the other. If he sucked then I could continue not liking him and the Cubs wouldn't be hurt too much. If he turned out to be good then he helped us win plus something I didn't think of is the getting to rub it in the Cards fans faces (can't wait till we play them and hope he has a big hit).
  6. it's Saturday night and I'm in college sooooo
  7. Never thought I would get to this point with Jim Edmonds but it's got to be asked. Should we now begin supporting and cheering and treating Edmonds like all the other Cubs? Through today he is batting .297 with the Cubs and has 13 RBIs in 64 at-bats with us (thats a 102 pace in a 500 at-bat season). His bat seems to have turned around and now our CF spot doesn't seem as big of a hole as it was. When I hear his name I still start to get mad but with him now producing I think I will start treating him like all the other Cubs. Am I the only one going through this dilemma? I highly doubt it. Curious to see how many are willing to cheer and root for him now.
  8. Well look who was a page late to this conversation. :good:
  9. What stat do you want? 7th in the NL in slugging among 1B, 16th in the NL in OBP, 8th in OPS, 6th in HRs, 8th in batting average, 11th in walks, 7th in K's. 8th in RARP, 7th in VORP, 6th in EQR, 9th in Win Shares. He does lead the NL in DPs, though. And ABs. Nobody's hating on players. Some of us are just being realistic, and some of us are spouting nonsense to make themselves feel better about a baseless opinion. Derrek Lee has no business being an all-star this year based on numbers. He isn't having a bad year. That is all I am saying, people try to make it seem Derrek has just been terrible this year. I don't think he should be an all-star, but you are crazy if you don't think he will be considered. It seems like almost every single thread on here is some thread bashing a player. Lee had a great April, struggled in May. I am pretty sure it will even out as the year goes on. by regular 1B's he isn't having too bad of a year but for his standards he's been bad. His defense and bat have slipped. The worst to me is his .337 OBP. He's not walking and that was what he used to do best. I love but can look and see he's having a down year so far. I'm not bashing him and still support him all the way but he simply hasn't been what we expect or what he expects this year. I agree with this guy. I agree with him too. He is truly a very wise, very good looking man.

  11. If we were to have 2 guys pushing 40 in the outfield, Id rather Bonds be the second than Giles. better be joking otherwise I have a noose for sale you interested
  12. I think it is a shame. Pie can be good obviously can't be 100% sure but a prospect isn't going to do well when he can't play everyday and must wonder everyday if he will see the field. Edmonds is doing well recently so I'm not too angry over this but this is how I look at it. Put him in the 8 hole and he's an average hitter for that spot because he has more power than most 8 hitters would have and in the field he is GG caliber. So you have a premier defensive CF and an average 8 hole hitter that would likely improve over time. I don't ever see Pie being a great hitter but given a year to work out problems he I think at least would be a .270 hitter with 15-20 Hr's a year and a great defender. That isn't too bad, not great but something we could be set with for 10 years.
  13. actually, minute maid/enron is a neutral park as far as offense. everyone thinks it's a hitter's park because of the crawford boxes, but CF and the power alleys are very deep. I wasn't saying it was a hitter's park overall. I read an article two years ago when he was doing really well then too and he said about two out of three at bats he tries to hit it to LF because if he gets any kind of good contact it has a good shot at being a HR. He said the only time he doesn't is when he needs to SF, or just get a single to win or when a pitcher is particularly good at not allowing him to do that. I remember seeing it once but can't remember which way it went but I would like to see how many HR's a year he gets in that porch.
  14. he also writes the most obvious columns like his Indy 500 column was about how Danica should have gotten in a fight. Wow how creative. The guy who covered the 500 for the Ball State Daily News (yes we actually send a guy every year) sat with Marioti and Jason Whitlock (whitlock went to Ball State). He told me Mariotti said two minutes in the race that his column would be on Danica no matter what happens because she is a good looking sports figure and he wants to write about her. That is the wrong reason to write about her.
  15. he's a very good player that if he can produce later than most stars can make the HoF but as hard as it is to get in I would think some would down grade him because of that short porch that he has admitted to having a lot of extra homeruns due to.
  16. he wasn't rubbing the ball on his wrist sorry I didn't explain it well. He was using his free hand to wipe sweat off his wrist then spreading it on the ball. Putting any substance purposefully on the ball to have an advantage other than rosin (the reason for rosin is to prevent people's hand sweat from getting on the ball) is illegal. I don't think anyone noticed and he could only do it during a mound visit so its not a big deal just worth noting.
  17. So let me first say I hate the oh he is cheating threads that people will put out (like the one about us cheating at home). However, when Soto came to visit the mound today while Eyre was talking I noticed Eyre turn his back to the ump and begin rubbing his wrist then rubbing the ball, then rubbing his writs, then rubbing the ball all the meantime rotating the ball in his hand. I thought it was weird like Demp's mit flicks before he throws a pitch. A minute later I realized what he was probably doing. He was wiping the sweat from his wrist and putting it on the ball. The spitball is obviously illegal and to my knowledge putting any wet substance on the ball purposefully is also illegal. I'm not saying he was beyond a doubt, 100 percent cheating but it sure seemed like it to me and is the only explanation I can think of.
  18. I hate Jay because he is one of those smug jerks who never admits he is wrong and is so cocky he's over the top. Plus I disagree with him 90% of the time. And as an aspiring journalist any reporter who won't go into a clubhouse to get his own quotes loses all respect. Do your own job.
  19. He shouldn't have gone after the announcer but should have made a stink to the owner and the organization. Hamilton had issues with drugs Milton with anger. To compare them and say Hamilton has turned his life around and Milton hasn't in a similar situation is very ignorant on the announcers part. You don't link anyone to drugs that hasn't had drug issues. It would be like comparing T.O. to Rae Carruth because both of them seem to always be doing something the league doesn't like. Plus Bradley has been almost as good as Hamilton this season and hasn't had a dilemma yet.
  20. that is Marmol
  21. All you ever write about is the Vols! Fulmer stinks and can't win with all that talent! Another Vol was arrested last night! How many Vols can fit into a VW bug? I don't just talk about the Vols! Sometimes I talk about how much the Big East sucks in football. :D well that's just the truth right there
  22. no to making blockbuster trade ... what do we do when Sori is back? Bench DeRo?? I think not.
  23. yeah I would say give hoff a chance and if he can't perform in a week call up Murton.
  24. A 10-0 win the night after Pujols get s his first serious injury. I've never thought of terrorism before but anyone want to help me blow up the new Busch?
  25. this is a winning/losing thread not a injury thread. tying them together stretches the jinx thing. Pretty much anything you say about the Cubs will be jinxing them if you tie win/loss threads to an injury of a player.
