    If he's going to be a starter then let him start. Pulling him after 2 1/3 is just stupid kills the bullpen for a week.

    He tied the record for most wins in a season with Seattle. And I pretty sure if you were a manager of that team they would say I'm playing for this idiot and you wouldn't win 100 games :clapping: .

    Not with back-to-back 5 inning SP performances. Like some said in another thread as long as he isn't awful he should stay in for 6 to rest the bullpen. And to the guy who said SOTOWNED ... to steal a line from a commercial BRILLiant!

    He's not great but his .973 fielding percentage is .011 higher than Cedeno's and is in the middle of the pact for starting SS (16th among players who have played at least 30 games at SS). He's nothing to look at but he's not horrendous either. He also beats his former Cardinal twin Eckstein by a wide margin.

    oh the sweet irony ... we are called the mega Cubs the same day Marquis takes the mound. If we somehow win this game I vote for the supernova Cubs or maybe nova then if we win super nova.

    Yep Dave Duncan IMO is the most valuable coach in the majors. You have him you have an acceptable pitching rotation. It amasses me more people haven't copied what he does. From what I've read is he makes pitchers throw slightly less than full out so they can have more control and teaches them to use the changeup.

    And Cedeno has a .289 OBP in 774 at-bats. People tend improve after a year at the majors because they can spend the offseason studying film and adjust accordingly. Theriot is probably slightly better than the .357 OBP (which BTW Lee's is .367). Plus .357 is one of the best career OBP's on the team. And Cedeno is certainly better than the .289 he has although probably not as high as Theriot's because he's not as patient. I think it's about time people stop being stubborn, admit they were wrong (all of us are one point or another), and start cheering for him without having the thought in the back of the head slightly hoping he does bad.

    it seems to be the reporters fault to me. Alou said he would have been joking if he said it. The reporter should make sure the quote he has is really meant they way he thinks it was meant. This is why you do follow up questions and have more than just one quote on the subject.

    might want to read all of my posts and not skim ... I have said I believe twice in this thread now he's made some mistakes and people can criticize those but to call him one of the worst managers or a bad manager when we are 16 games above .500 is just plain idiotic.

    I'm afraid of it too but I'm not going around calling Lou one of the worst managers in the league when we have the best record in the league. That seems odd to me. The best team in the league can't have one of the worst at something? I'd say the 2004 team was among the best in the league, and they had the worst third-base coach in history. who said they can't have one of the worst anything in history? Some things you can egt away with. Like our CF's haven't been great this year. One thing you can't get away with and still have the best record in baseball is have a horrible manager. You can make playoffs with a abd manager if the talent on the team is good enough, but plenty of people seem to criticize our GM as well so. You can't have a bad GM and bad manager and still be a great team. Semms to me Lou is doing something right (and Hendry for that matter).

    Next season, after his first bad start, the Cubs should promptly demote him to the pen. Very very nice to see Shark pitch well tonight. I've grown much less enamored of him as a prospect this season but it goes without saying that I would love nothing more than to see him end up being a good pitcher for the Cubs. Gee why is that???

    Bob Brenly didn't have the decades of success to show like Lou does. And we don't have Schilling and Randy Johnson at their primes either. Doesn't Dusty Baker have a better career winning percentage? Are we seriously comparing Lou to Dusty now. Yes for the record Dusty does nad he was great in San Francisco, should have never left. I guess this board has to have someone to complain about no matter how well we are doing. Theriot at the beginning of the season (calling for his job despite batting .330 because cedeno was batting .350) and since we are winning and everyone we expect to do well is we must complain about the manager of the best team in baseball currently.

    Webb isn't the only one to worry about. Lincecum and obviously Volquez have just as deserving resumes. Plus if Johan puts together say 3 great outings heading in his ERA would be around 2.5 too.

    I live as long as we win. I prefer to win blow out style but I'm not going to start asking for wins to come a certain way. And everyone was obviously thinking it but no one has yet said that Barrett being the one hitting added a little more dread when it first came off the bat.

    Well we are 16 games over .500 so I think anyone who complains constantly or says something like what's above might want to take the results into account. The above statement would mean that at least 24 other managers would have us more than 16 games above .500. Has Lou made mistakes of course and I'm mad when they happen but I don't constantly criticize a guy who has winning. Charlie Manuel, Clint Hurdle, Grady Little, Phil Garner, etc. All horrendous managers who took their teams to the playoffs. Lou is a two time manager of the year winner, has won a world series, has a career record over .500, and is I believe in the top 20 for wins he's not a horrendous manager. The team is winning, they are getting a long better than they have in a long time. Has Lou made some game mistakes yes but every manager does. His managerial style is working. Not all a manager does is game time decisions.

    one of the best games I have seen which isn't saying a lot because I haven't watched much hockey but still a Phe-Nom-menal game.
