  1. I hope people are kidding with the Bonds stuff. That would be the one way I would drop the Cubs. I will not support a team that knowly signs a cheater even if that is the Cubs. Now if we get Dunn I can see Baker demanding Bonds in Cinci.
  2. We won't get fuentes and CC unless one team sells for cheap which there are bound to be multiple teams pursuing both players so its not likely. I would say we will get one and then sign a lesser of which ever position we don't get. So if we get CC we go after a RP who is doing well but hasnt had a lot of success before or is struggling but has a history of being very good. If we get Fuentes then we go after Wolf, Meche, Burnett or someone like that.
  3. Yeah I remember a story about after his rookie year he got really out of shape and fat and that's why he struggled but lost the weight a year or two ago and that was the reason for his resurgence. He seems to have put on some weight after proving himself last year.
  4. he pinch hit last night and I didn't see any problems so I would think he will be in the lineup
  5. What's your thinking for that? The Phillies can hammer the ball, but they pretty much have one starter. And so do we. Z is a stud, but outside of that Hill has been shaky, Dempster is pitching way above his head, gallagher is doing decent but nobody is expecting him to be a top notch starter his first year and then there's marquis... Fact of the matter is though Dempster could be a an All-Star. He won't keep it up but right now that is what he is pitching like. And like someone else said when he falls Lilly either before or some point after will rise. Demp will likely go from his 2.7 now to pitching 4 in the second half and Lilly is at like 5.3 right now and should be more like 3.7 like least year. That's more of an improvement than Demp's drop. Now those are just my random numbers but I would say it will turn out pretty close to those.
  6. just an fyi most papers care more about how many years of writing experience you have than what degree you have
  7. there is no value on Cardinal players. Someone will envitably feel their shoes and perhaps be better and the players suck if they leave for a different team
  8. I went with Harden because they are both ace type pitchers but Harden would be cheaper to get and cheaper in the long run. Plus CC is feeling the effects of massive overuse this year and I don't like trading for a pitcher that could be gone in half a year who isn't performing well during the year he is traded.
  9. Is it game time yet. No? Ugh this sucks. Me hate waiting, me want cubs baseball now.
  10. well the poll isn't perfect. I am still a student (graduate in Dec.) but I write for the student newspaper which technically owns itself as well as announce and hose a show on the student radio station that is a real station that broadcasts in town not just campus. So I would say I am a journalist already (I do get paid on the paper) but I am also a student.
  11. sure if you call batting .230 and getting 36 rbi good
  12. Yup...and we all know that rumor denials are definitive...so clearly the Brewers aren't interested... and we all know everything a reporter says is true even when he talks of the trade as a hypothetical
  13. well when others post things exactly like what you did there's no way to know your being sarcastic especially when you are the first to post. The smiley face or something would help though. I doubt any one on here actually thinks a thread on here can actually hold any kind of predetermination over how the Cubs do. It should have been obvious that it was sacrastic, some people in here need to lighten up. Anyone who has been a Cubs fan for more than a day should be aware by now of the teams history with perceived jinxes, whether they be billy goats, Bartman, or NSBB threads. If you can't draw that connection, then you've been living with your head in the sand. Now if you want to complain that the ruse is getting old, that's another story. Let's stop taking people so seriously when they suggest deleting and banning to jinx-type threads. some people don't like tempting fate and truly want threads like this locked. You get it everywhere. On my Rockets message board there was a 6 page thread with me and some guys arguing because they were throwing a fit over threads about the streak.
  14. Giles? He doesn't play CF. If he can play right at Petco, he can probably play center at Wrigley well he's old, pretty slow, and to my knowledge never played CF. Plus Wrigley is one of the hardest if not the hardest to play OF because of the wind. At Petco it's just big. Giles has over 300 career games in CF. Wrigley is an easy CF because of the shallow alleys. I have always heard from players and broadcasters that Wrigley is one of the toughest because the wind is so strong and varies a lot.
  15. no he's not and he's told Houston reporters he is done with coaching because it is too stressful
  16. Not necessarily. The Brewers have had a new owner over the past couple years, and since they have had so much young cheap talent, it's hard to get much of a read on what philosophy they have in regards to payroll expenditures. I seem to recall they have been players for some of the bigger free agents over the past couple of years though. Just looked it up, they are 17th in the majors in payroll this year. I don't know whether or not this trade rumor is valid or not, but I suspect that rosenthal has a better idea of what the brewers would do than you do. must not read rosenthal much then ... I can see the Brewers going after a pretty good player and giving up a prospect to get him but not Roberts. Roberts will get a pretty big deal. He's a lead off hitter and one of the top 2b in the league and not old yet. I would be surprised to see him get 5 yr-60 mil deal and the Brewers won't pay Fielder they aren't going to pay Roberts (especially when we would if we have a new owner likely outbid to get him). All rosenthal says is that they sent socuts to Orioles games. Never said he knew what they were sent there for. Scouts and teams tend to not tell reporters that type of info. My guess would be they think the Orioles, or know they are, interested in Hall and they are scouting to see what they would want.

  19. it still changes his routine and any player will have a voice in the back of their head wanting to start and compete
  20. Problem with skipping Demp would make him concious of it and weigh on his mind. A "I'm doing so well why did they skip me when my arm is doing fine" thing. When a guy is doing well I will always say do everything you can to not throw him for a loop and just keep treating him the same. or... and here's a crazy idea... the idea could be thrown out there that he was being skipped to ensure he stays fresh because he hasn't been a full-time starter in a few years try looking at it from a player's perspective. A player will except it but the competiveness in him will have him thinking my arm feels fine and I'm dominanting why do I have to be skipped. I know what is best for my arm. Like I said if someone is doing well don't mess with him. Don't fix what isn't broken.
  21. darn Japs always hiding cards up their sleeves ... Fukudome is the biggest reason for the stat discrepency. He's batting like .370 at home and .200 on the road. Not used to traveling like this I guess.
  22. great, now umfan will start another injury thread. thanks for the jinx I can start an injury thread about a certain Colts player. Maybe he won't be injured then. inverse jinxing. Want me to try. I'm pretty sure my thread will affect his durability.
