  1. I will weep. Like a little girl who lost her puppy.
  2. There, fixed it for you. :pukel:
  3. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=4612#CHN Wow, that must have been written by Jon Leicasters mom or somebody, because whoever wrote it thinks Leicaster is great. I just think whoever wrote that really over values Jon Leicaster but hey thats just me. While I agree that Leicester isn't a great talent; all the article said about him was that he was talented. There were a grand total of 2 sentences that included Leicester's name. That is enough to think his mom wrote the article? I'd say the article is dead on about the foolishness that is the Cubs management.
  4. Mench hit .254/.317/.452 away from Arlington last year. He was .262/.315/.476 from 2002-2004. I would not assume an 800+ OPS out of a guy whose 818 career is help up only by his time playing in Arlington. I stand corrected. However, that 20-30 point drop still doesn't nullify the fact that the proposed lineup by Vance still outproduces the 2005 lineup. His question was simply whether or not that lineup would contend, and I have to believe that it would. Is it a great offensive OF? Of course not. It isn't want I envision as ideal, but it may be what JH goes after unfortunately; which is sort of what Vance was suggesting. The lineup he suggested is by far a better lineup than the one we put out there in 2005, and would contend for the playoffs with decent pitching. By NO MEANS though do I advocate making a run at Mench or a similar RF. I want Giles or Bradley or Wilkerson or any combination of the three.
  5. If our pitching stayed relatively healthy all year; then yes we could contend with that team. If you look at the production in terms of OPS from our OF last year compared to what it would likely be with that OF, you will see a vast improvement. In '05 we received the following production values: LF .738 OPS, CF .643 OPS, RF .746 OPS You can take a minute to expel the rest of the vomit now. With the OF Vance listed an .800+ OPS from each OF position should be expected. At that level of production you would be suggesting drop offs for each of those OF'ers . Murton was at .908 last year, Bradley was at .835, and Mench at .818 OPS. So even including some substanial drop offs, you would receive quite a boost in OPS from your "new" OF. However, with a likely drop off in OPS from 1B, and 2B, you may lose half or more of that gain. Yet, that would be countered by the large gain with Furcal. Overall, I see that as a much more productive team, and a vastly improved OF offense. With all that said though, our pitching would still be the key.
  6. This isn't intended to sound rude (I'm just upset about the contracts given out so far), but I don't give a crap about NY/Boston fans getting riled up. If their respective teams spend large amounts of money on silly contracts, and they don't get upset about it then it's their own fault. Money spent foolishly hurts the organization whether your payroll is 25 million or 250 million. Obviously, the larger payroll team can absorb a bad contract much easier, but a fan who truly understands the economics of the game understands that overspending is detrimental to the team regardless of payroll.
  7. Wow. I knew the kid was good, but holy crap!! He really should not be wasting his talent in Pittsburgh. He should be on the north side of Chicago wasting it.
  8. Well fortunately for you, you won't have to worry about that. What worry? Just put the sign the right way. It's not quite brain surgery.
  9. Bingo. We have a winner.
  10. It's just too funny. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2005/news/story?id=2206704
  11. This is partially how Hendry has such a poor name around here. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. To be completely fair, Hendry has made some moves that leave you scratching your head. I think what everyone is clamoring for is for him to spend the money he has WISELY. He has shown (Maddux, Blanco, Perez) that he doesn't do that often enough. While I won't burn him at the stake yet, he has a ways to go to turn things around. He also has a lot of time to do it in. A few extra million may not seem like much here and there, but it adds up. If it adds up to enough to keep you from spending on an impact player, then you're not very good at your job.
  12. I guess initially I felt like it was too much, and while I still do; I guess it isn't too crazy. However, I was hoping the Cubs could grab him, but not at that price. Especially after the Remmy and Hawk debacles.
  13. Please excuse me if this has been posted, but Howry has gone mad. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=fanball-indianshowrylookingf&prov=fanball&type=lgns
  14. If they move Huff I want no part of him. He sucked last year, and has motivation/attitude isues. I can only speak for myself, but after years of dealing with THAT management/organization, I think I'd have an attitude problem as well. That being said, I still don't want Huff.
  15. When you've got the Astros to win, and the under at 7.5; then he most definitely is a choker in my book. :wall:
  16. I'l be rooting for the Cards. I have an immense hatred for Clemens and especially Berkman. Go Cards.
  17. The guy in the blue is completely "connected". If you were smart, you'd stop asking questions RIGHT NOW. :camper:
  18. Mulder just got drilled on the left arm by a comebacker in the 2nd inning. Happy now? It helps. O:)
  19. I think it may just be a poke at the "overindulgence" of it, and the fact that Chicago has a bit of a "rep" for enjoying not-so-healthy foods. Add the fact that the sodium levels on the Chicago dog are going to be higher, and you have some scientific justification for making a joke. I think it has the potential to be funny to dorks and non-dorks.
  20. I have a ton of interest in every single game. Although, I'm a degenerate gambler, so I might be in the minority.
  21. I have to agree with the majority here. I was born and raised in the city, and I took no offense to the "article". I thought the bit about the hot dog and ER was hilarious.
  22. I would pay for one most definitely. However, when I have the brick tested (carbon dated or what have you) and it doesn't pass the "authenticity test", I will hunt you down. :camper:
  23. When I told my wife about winning the predictions contest, she looked quite bewildered. She precedes to ask me how could I have won unless I predicted the Cubs to suck; since all I did all season was complain about that very thing. She then asked me why I bothered to watch if I knew they were going to suck. Without even the slightest bit of hesitation I responded because I had been a fan for almost 30 years. She then asked how close the battle was. When I told her that I blew away the competition; she told me I must be a miserable (something that rhymes with stick). I said "thank you, now you know what it takes to be a Cubs fan".
  24. What a fantastic B-Day gift that would make for me, to have Dusty headed out of town.... You didn't get that girl in the big cake I sent you?! Hmm, wonder who did? Thanks a lot. My wife is pretty ticked off right now. However, she was friggin' hot man!!! =P~
  25. I would like the package that gets Dusty and Hendry fired; while giving 4 or 5 of the more creative posters on this site a chance to run our beloved Cubs. That package doesn't exist? :wall: Oh well, I guess I'll take the HOF package please. I think that is what it had been named. The package with a Ryno and Maddux rookie card, and a Fergie autographed ball. Thanks to all who donated.
