    Did I miss something special? So a shortstop CAN hit a homerun for the Cubs. I'm not used to the SS hitting homeruns.

    I tend to believe that Castro is here to play SS, with Theriot switching to 2B, and Baker moving into Chad Tracy's role as super sub. What would make you think that? Seems like a huge stretch. Why? Castro isn't sitting the bench, and he can't be a worst defensive SS then Theriot, who btw is a better defensive player at 2b then either Baker or Fontenot. It's not a stretch.

    I assumes on the days Castro plays he will bat 8th, or is that spot only for Soto? If it is, I cannot wait to see Soto hitting behind a rookie. :roll:

    But the point is, Rudy helped him to a respectable rookie season last yr. So I kind of expect to see at the worst similar numbers for Castro this yr.

    Texas called up their best SS prospect Elvis Andrus at 21 and he had slightly worse numbers in the minors then Castro does. Not to mention Andrus hitting instructor with the Rangers..........Rudy Jaramillo. Andrus 2009 numbers ended up being .267/.329/.373/.702, not bad (not great, either) for a 21 yr old rookie in the AL. I kind of expect similar type numbers from Castro if he plays regularly.

    I don't have a problem with this as long as the Cubs know there is a chance that Castro could struggle. I like the injection of fresh blood into a team that looked really letharic against the Pirates. Personally I hope this means Tracy is gone, but I suspect that someone is being moved to the DL.

    Canucks are desparate aren't they? Let the Canucks play a different game then they are used to, as long as the Hawks stay within themselves they should take a 3-1 lead after tonight.

    UMFAN; I agree for the most part, but what separates MJ (and Kobe for that matter) is that they have that mercenary mentality of not only beat their opponents, but basically go for the throat every chance they get. Both have that legendary win at all costs philosophy that I don't see in LBJ just yet. LBJ might be the most underachieving player in the NBA despite his stats, cause he doesn't always play the game at 100%, like Jordan or Kobe. I'm sure LBJ wants to be considered the best of all time, but to do that he has to prove it on the court, but not so much during the regular season, but the playoffs. You think MJ would have allowed his team to be swept in the Finals, like LBJ did a few years back? I'm still waiting for "the beast" to be releashed from LBJ before I annoit him the GOAT. I mean my god, he has the best of Magic, MJ and Jason Kidd all role into one, and yet he has underachived in his career, if you can believe it. Teams were afraid to play the Bulls, because they didn't think they could stop MJ, the same cannot be said about LBJ and Cleveland. When LBJ decides that no team can beat him in the playoffs, that's when we will see the next evolution of LBJ from just a great player to legend.

    Whenever I hear of LT I ALWAYS think of Lawrence Taylor first, then Tomlinson. I pretty much refer to Tomlinson as LT2K. (Yes I know it's a lame nickname.)

    If he wins 1 title anywhere he's just that guy. Nobody has to "outdo" Jordan in Chicago to make the team and the town theirs. And who's to say LBJ can't win multiple championships in Chicago? This whole LBJ won't come to Chicago because of Jordan's presence is a weak ass argument.

    The Pirates lost three straight to the Dodgers, outscored 20-5, before the series with the Cubs. The Cubs hit the hell out of the ball the last three games of the D'backs series and won all 3. That after dropping 4 of 5 to the Mets and AZ with virtually no offense. The Brewers beat the crap out of the Bucs in a 3 game series only to get completely shut down the following series by the Cubs. It happens. The play in the previous series often doesn't matter. The Reds have been just as inconsistent as the Cubs. And their manager is an even bigger idiot! It doesn't matter. The Cubs have already lost 2/3 to the Reds earlier, so I already pencil the Reds sweeping the Cubs.

    Haha. But, I thought the girl was 15? Does it really matter? Man, there is no fight to the Cubs team tonight. They act as if the game is already over. Boy getting swept by the best team in baseball......wait the Pirates are not the best team in baseball? Could have fooled me after this series. And what matters worse, if that the Cubs are about to run into a Reds team that is playing some good ball over the past 10 days. So no chance at reaching .500 anytime soon.

    Tonight the Pirates are playing the role of Lawrence Taylor and the Cubs are playing the role of a 16 year old girl.

    These are very comparable situations. They're not? Jordan's gone. To the younger generation of NBA fans around right now he's just a guy from old highlight clips. Why is it realistic that the Lakers and Celtics could get great players to come play for them despite arguably being defined by previous dynasties and some of the greatest players of all time, but it's not for the Bulls? I guess it's a miracle that Shaq decided to play in Kareem's shadow, or that Garnett was willing to play in Bird's shadow. I agree I thought Shaq and Kobe with the Lakers and KG and Allen (even tho both were traded to Boston and not signed) had tougher roads to forge their legacies with more historic NBA franchises then LBJ would with the Bulls.

    All Calipari would be in Chicago is a figurehead, just like Mike Brown is in Cleveland. We all know who coaches the Cavs and it ain't Brown. So why are people worrying about Calipari? All the offense would be is to run through LBJ first, Rose second, LBJ third, and Rose 4th. Doesn't take a genius to figure it out.

    See, the only way Vancouver has a shot to win this series is if Lu plays out of his mind (which he has the talent to do, btw). Not to get ahead to Game 4, but the Hawks has to expect the Nucks to come out like a firecracker in that game, and if the Hawks survive I think they take Game 4. But it would be nice if Detroit could win a game or two against San Jose, so that the Sharks don't have the extra freaking rest for the WCF.

    Exactly. Regardless of what Hendry or Lou think of him, Theriot is not a core player to this team. He simply doesn't have the talent or ability. I never said he was, but judging what Hendry and the last two managers thought of him, may me believe they think he is a core player.

    Well you are being silly. As long as Piniella and Hendry are here, Theriot IS a part of the Cubs core. Now if Piniella and Hendry happens to no longer here, then that's another story, but until then he is a part of the core. if theriot is part of the core then why isn't dempster, fukudome, lilly, marmol, etc? Fukudome can walk after his contract is up. He's not anything special for the amount of his contract. Demp is good, but not worth what he's making. Lilly I'd like to keep, and Marmol should be locked up long-term. everybody can walk when their contract is up. lee can walk after this season. obviously i consider lee much more of a "core" player than fukudome because he's been around longer, but if theriot (starter since 2007) is a core player then why isn't fukudome, dempster, lilly, etc.? it makes no sense. Why don't you go ask Jim Hendry that question, cause I don't have clue. I didn't say I believe is a core player, just saying the impression I get from Hendry regarding Theriot.

    It would certainly lock in his reputation as the Nick Saban of college basketball. Apples to oranges. I would hate it for Kentucky if Calipari leaves and Kentucky faces potential sanctions. I will gave Saban credit for coaching in conferences where other good teams actually exist. The man can recruit players, then man can coach up those same players(not all coaches can recruit AND coach up players, just ask Les Miles), and the man can find legitimate good assistant coaches. Most important he wins the games he is paid to win, unlike Calipari. So again, apples to oranges...one man is worth the dough, the other....not so much.

    So am I off base when I say that the window of opportunity to win with this core (Lee, ARam, Zambrano, Theriot, and Soriano) is prolly shut now?
